A Spyderco Pikal?

Favorites: Tan, Brown, Grey

No complaints (very good colors): olive, black, blue

But I'll still buy it if it's hot pink or attention-whore yellow. ;)
 
BTW, thought I'd post a reason ... the reason I like black, is because that's what seems to "disappear" the most when clipped to jeans or whatever. People notice I'm carrying a knife when I carry a gray calypso jr. or blue native or whatever. They don't seem to notice when I'm carrying a knife with black clip and handle.

Interesting. Do you think that's due to the contrast between the clip and knife Joe, or just the color itself? I had visions of a gun metal gray G-10 and a sand/bead blasted clip so the whole thing would just kinda' fade out and be dull (theoretically).
 
I think the mind is a funny thing. Black clip plus black handle probably registers as "pager" or whatever to anyone who doesn't take a good look. In fact, their brains probably don't even process it at all, is my guess ("nothing to see here, move along". Whereas, if you stick a flash of bright blue where it's not supposed to be, and people occasionally notice.

This could be a phenomenon that's unique to me, but I've read other people post exactly the same thing: people notice their non-black knives and clips, more than their black ones. I think even drab gun metal is noticeable -- anything that the brain calls out as something that's not supposed to be there.

So the neon pink delicas are probably a bad idea for concealed EDC?

Personally I like the black G10 for concealed EDC, but I have to admit that bright blue or gray are more sheeple friendly colors. Course, then you need to take into account I don't give a flying fart about the sheeple, so get that charcoal black G10 a rollin! :D

I'm getting so giddy I'm starting to annoy those around me. Look what you've done to us Sal you're trying to rule the world arn't you!
 
If its for pikal i.e. fighting then black would probably be better. Sheeple friendly colours are for when you actually need to use your knife in front of sheeple regularly.
 
My Favorite "color" is black ;) I agree with Joe, grey, or metal in any finish read knife or tool, black reads pager or cell phone, at least to me.
I think black G-10, black clip, and satin blade would be the bee's knee's. :cool:
 
Black, black and black works for me.

Personally I would love to see it with DLC-coated blade and hardware. That would rock.
 
Carni NOW yer talking!! The new Gen. of coatings from Bodycote are even more amazing.. My good bud Darrel Lewis from BC was showing me the latest at SHOT.. He gave me a 1911, and handed me his Simonich knife (Rc 59-60), and said "scratch it"!! Well I gave it a good try but the lines would just wipe off!
Imagine THIS knife with an S30V blade, G-10 handle scales, with Bodycote coating all over anything metal! ooooh man that would just be TOO COOL! :cool: :D

I wanted that for my CUDA MAXX as well, but could never get an answer back from Bodycote. I guess they don't talk to us mere mortals :(

I still want a knife coated with that and why not a Spyderco pikal knife?
 
i'd just like to point out that i'm excited about spyderco getting into the design/testing phase for yet another style of defensive implement that has been overlooked by many. looking forward to trying one of these out.. one day.
 
Well its been a while sinc e posting in here... so long in fact I had to re-register!! Just noticed Ray, SouthNarc & Trace in here, (searching for my other neglected forum SelfDefence Forums - seems down???) and then realised why all the talent had gathered.
A SpyderCo Pikal based design is something I've wanted for a while now (two years thanks to Ray!!!!!) It is also something that Ray and I have discussed in the past - well we actually discussed the lack there of for a suitable design in the Spyderco range really!

So without furhter ado - whats the latest on this? I've got a Kershaw Talon and am very happy with how it moves and feels for this grip. I'd love for an affordable Spyderco replacment and look forward to progess on this concept.
Yep black G10 handle, matte black clip, tip up design, Tungsten DLC coating would be sweet, but also increase the cost - I'd be up for it though.

As an update, We're currently working on the 3rd pattern model. Once we're satisfied with something that we feel works well, we'll send it to Southnarc & Trace for their input.

Once the pattern is established, then we'll decide on a lock for it.
