A Spyderco Pikal?

Hello All,

Just got back from my US tour............so much to catch up on...........Looking forward to the prototypes Sal!!!!

My 2 cents on the design:

clip - black wire clip, with 2 clips delivered with the knife. It's the simplest way to satisfy everybody...

lock - compression lock with full steel liners, working left to right, just like on the Gunting. I traded my Vesuvius after I got sick of cutting my fingers while closing it.

take care

I was a guest at this years Sayoc Kali Sama Sama gathering.

Whilst there I had the pleasure to "play" with a custom Kerambit designed by Ray Dionaldo.

It was a folding Kerambit; and he had it set up in a Kydex sheath.........the entire unit functioned as one.......as you pulled out the kerambit, the kydex had enough friction on the spine of the blade, so that it snapped open when you pulled it out.

Fast, full proof.........a great package.

Hi Toastmaster. That's cuz lefties are "backards". But this is a "backards" model to begin with (edge in) so I guess we have to make sure the "backards" model works for "backards" lefties. ;)

Hi Simona, nice pic. Sounds like the Gunting girl is expanding her interest ;)

Hi Trace, the wire clip seems to work well on this piece.

That's right. I get comments all the time about standing on the wrong side of my gun/knife, too. I'm pretty used to it.

Thank you very much for the consideration, Mr. Glesser. Personally, I think all of your high end folders should be like the Chinook II, with four sets of holes. If you can't do that, at least put one set on each side of the knife. It makes no sense to me to have a tip up/tip down configurable clip, but have no holes to for left side carry. I really like the look of the Paramilitary, and would probably get one, if I could carry it in my left pocket.

Hi Sal: Good talking to you the other day.. I can see how the wire clip would be a good call on this tool. I would REALLY like to see some of these with the Bodycote finish, what are your thoughts on that? Seeing as how this whole thing is very cutting edge, a limited number of BC coated blades would be the Cats A$$...

Another vote for the wire clip here! I've grown more and more fond of this clip type. It's both low profile and very comfy in the hand. Inspired by this thread I looked over my spydie collection and found the FRN delica pretty useful as a pikal folder. Switch the clip for left handed carry, and the knife can be fluently drawn and presented in pikal mode. It's not a dedicated design though, so I am very excited about this project.

Damn this is getting exciting. I'm going to have to vote Black coated wire clip and I like SouthNarcs idea of a grey g10 finish. Sal count me in line for one or two with a trainer.

Well I got a chance to meet with Sal over the weekend and look at the mock-up.

First off I want to publicly acknowledge Sal and Spyderco's support for this project and thank them for their hard work. They've moved very quickly on this and that's refreshing.

Next, I have to say that I'm impressed. Sal and Co. have obviously done their homework to insure that you guys get a relevent design suitable for this software, and it's very apparent that they have embraced and understand the parameters.

Finally what do I think of the design?

It will replace the Talon as the consumate pikal folder. It's better.

I think you guys are going to be really pleased.

One more thing. I can't answer any questions about specifics i.e. blade length, lines, etc. Can't comment on that at all guys. Just gonna' have to wait until it premieres. It'll be worth it. ;)

Hi SouthNarc,
Thanks for your mail BTW - appreciate it. Regarding the Spydie Pickle Knife, this is excellent news and I'm sure all who know about the mehtodolgy behind the pIkal method will appreciate the fact that we will be able to get a dedicated folder.

Yes the Talon is almost perfect for the purpose, but it was always as far as anyone knows, a folder that simply by chance fit the bill. It's a huge credit to Sal and Spyderco to see that this has moved so fast to this point on this knife, and its exciting to see how quickly this has progressed.

Hi Sal,
I know you aren't taking orders as yet - but I thought I'd commit to this, here: put me down for at least two of these and a trainer.

Cheers,
Nathan.

Hi Sal & SouthNarc,
I'm guessing the answer to this Q is a definite yes... but this will have the Spydie Hole right?

Thanks,
Nathan.

Sal,

Thank you for your responsiveness to the market and our comments.

My group, as well as myself, will be down for several of these + trainers.

Good going!

Lee

Sal,

Re: a name for this new design: I really favor "Snark", as a nod to the distinguished Southern gentleman and catalyst behind this project.

I realize pickle or somesuch has been bandied about, but I think Snark is short, concise, and would allow us to honor SouthNarc. He would never suggest this himself, but unless he has objections, "those who know" will know the origin of the name "Spyderco Snark".

Thoughts?

It's grrreat to see how fast things have been moving on this!!!

Thanks to Sal, Snarc and everybody else. I read Snarc's post
on SDF stating that it is going to be manufactured in the
Golden facility -- top notch all the way. This is wonderful news
to anyone who has ever handled a Chinook II and seen the
quality that comes out of Spyderco's facility in the US.

You can put me down for two live blades and two trainers -- I
wouldn't want an unfair advantage over my training partner ;)

It's also reminiscent of Lewis Carroll's writings, which is cool.

I'm not clear reg. the manipulation which would be required to pull the folder, open it, and end up with it blade down, edge in....

I have lurked on these forums for quite some time, but I haven't registered until now. This new development from Spyderco has prompted me to climb aboard. I compliment Mr. Glesser for his attention to the desires of the knife-lovers. I also compliment him for the quality and diversity of his entire product line. Thanks are also due in this case to SouthNarc, Trace Rinaldi, and perhaps even Ray Floro, for their work on this potential new model. There's plenty of other Spyder-holics that have been the voices in the choir. I thank them also for the momentum behind this project.

Put me down for at LEAST one of these honeys, and the trainer.

I'm glad to hear that it will be made in USA, at Chinook-level materials. Bravo!

Con muchas gracias, Sal.

I'm interested, have enjoyed observing the process, and am anxiously awaiting the chance to slide one into my pocket. The CII will have to move, but that's what other pockets and/or waistbands are for.

Great to see so many people taking the time to discuss what they want and Sal listening, as well it is good to hear that the feedback from the people on the forum is actually listened to and appreciated.

p.s. A vote for the knife being called the pickle
