A Spyderco Pikal?

Put me and my band of ne'er do wells down for at least a half dozen matched set [live & trainers, of course].

I'm envisionioning green handles [be they FRN or G10].

It seems only fitting on the Snark Pickle. :D

Guys I'm humbled that you would consider naming this knife after my internet moniker but I think that something more low key would probably suit a broader spectrum of end-user. And after all, this is everyones', not just mine. :)

I like the Snark Pickle name. Maybe it will even have little bumps like a pickle?

Hi y'all,
Snark is a little too close to Ernie's "SARK" for my liking. Yeah sorta the same blade, but.... we don't want to necessarily paint this with the same brush...

Names I think would be suitable:

Spyderco Pickle
Spyderco Reverse Rescue

All with the addition describer: Design by SouthNarc - ala the Ronin.

Cheers,
Nathan

"Reverse rescue" -- depending on how your read that, it has interesting implications

The advantage to "Pickle Knife", of course, is that when Sal decides to come out with a smaller and bigger version, the names are already solved: the Mini Gherkin and the Kosher Dill.

HA! :D Good one Joe!

Actually I like Mitchell's moniker of "Reverse Rescue" quite a bit myself.

Reverse Rescue. How 'bout the R2?

LMAO - I never though of it like that! Like SouthNarc I like the "Reverse Rescue" name, but you are right about the Pickle ideas... However the Reverse Rescue might invite requests for serrations, which - I really don't think fit the bill.... R2 does sound good, possibly a bit "technical".

Pickle Knife is pretty sweet though, and for the smaller one Mini-Gherkin is safer in naming for "Men's Pride" than Mini-Pickle - though both could be interesting.

"Honey on the way out the door, can you grab my Mini-Gherkin, I left it on the night-stand" :D

Okay I'll stop now...

Cheers,
Nathan

Snark as in Tooth of a....Shark
Snark as in the frequently used motion in pikal...a Snag

Shark...Snag....Snark.

But folks with more than just my double digit posts will have to make the call. ;)

The tooth of a shark hey?? - first I've ever heard of it. I know you're playing with words, but come on :) ...

A Snark is a mythical beast in Lewis Carroll's verse "The Huniting of the Snark" (of Alice in Wonderland's fame)

`For although common Snarks do no manner of harm,
Yet I feel it my duty to say
Some are Boojums-'

In this case the Pickle knife will do manner of harm....

A snark is also known in the math world as "a non-planar, trivalent, non-Tait-colourable graph." Yeah me too....

Cheers,
Nathan.

Actually, I think 'snark' is also a synonym for snoring, I'll have to look that up. Snark also gives me images of Lord of the Rings type creatures, so the name won't appeal to me that much. I'd rather like the more direct name: Southnarc. Reverse Rescue is a pretty cool name when you think about it, but could mistakes happen when people try to order the reverse rescue over the phone and e.g. receive a PE Rescue? LOL

Right now, I can't think of anything better so my vote goes to 'reverse rescue'.

I've been following this thread with much fascination and interest, because it is the first time I've ever seen a new knife design literally take place right before my eyes. It sure sounds like the ensuing design will be a real winner.

I'm not skilled at all in the arts which most of the people on this thread are expert in, but may I offer a suggestion for a name - how about Spyderco Sting? Despite its sub-4 inch size, it will be a very formidable SD tool, and the action that it will be used in is a lot like the attack lunge of a snake as it shoots forward to strike its prey, and then whips back again into its initial position.

Here's another idea - how about "Recoil"?

Parallax, one of the things I like about names like "Pickle knife", "Reverse Rescue", "R2", are the fact that they are not at all evocative of combatives. Stinging and recoiling are things that bees and snakes do, and that's not quite the evocation I was hoping for :) I may be the only one hung up on things like this, but I'd prefer the name of our purpose-designed pickle knife to be more innocuous, or technical-sounding.

I'm with Joe, it would be nice to have a knife/defensive tool that didn't say:

THE ENFORCER or the EVISCERATOR or SPEC-OPS TACTICAL UBER KILLING MACHINE. :barf:

Pickle is nice. Reverse Rescue is ok. Snark would be ok as well. Hell, you could call it the "Powder Puff" and I'd buy it.

But by all means, lets keep it low profile.

Ditto what my neighbor Surly said. I'll buy it whatever it's called. How about "Girly-Man Knife?"

Seriously, consider the knife's distant ethnic origins. Perhaps something Phillipino? Or maybe its more recent origins--our friend SouthNarc is a Louisianan, isn't he? If his commendable modesty precludes naming this honey after his internet nom de plume, perhaps something Ante-Bellum or Bayou-influenced?

Whatever, let's just get 'er done.

Building upon Surly's suggestion,
"SPEC-OPS TACTICAL UBER KILLING MACHINE."

I change my vote to:
S.T.U.K.'M.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAA!!! :D

Hi Joe,
I couldn't agree more with you on this concern. I think that the name should be as innocuous as possible. We really do not want the additional attention that such names imply, especially from a legal standpoint - I don't need to elaborate here, I'm sure that you can see my point.

"Here is Article B - a knife by it's name "The STABBY STABBY" belies that this is not a simple pocket knife, and a purpose designed killing tool..." "GUILTY"

Oh okay, so I did illustrate it a little more :D

Reverse Rescuse, R2, Pickle Knife are all very 'clean' names. I know the following name is 'taken' by the mod'd Talon; but "The Southern Comfort" (or just Southern Comfort) would be a nice 'nod' to that mod and the man who brought it about.... SouthNarc.

The Spyderco - Southern Comfort or Spydie SoCo... Hmm has a pretty nice ring to it.

But hey just a thought...

Cheers,
Nathan.
