Did a little look-see through the backwoods on this rainy weekend. Moose season is around the corner.
At anchor at this very moment in the 1000 Islands National Park aboard our tiny sailboat… an exercise in minimalism and a great way to learn techniques on how to get along better with your spouse![]()
Thank you, friend.Great snaps!
What state are you in? Did you get a moose tag this year?
Thank you, friend.
Alaska is where I hang my hat. Moose tags are over the counter in my neck of the woods.
Will do, friend.Living my dream, I was born too late to do diy and too late to afford the spike in guided hunts.
Do post up some photos if you get one this year, I’m a mad keen hunter in my part of the world and would love to see them![]()

Gracias JackLooks like a great day out my friend.
Lots of fascinating history in that part of the world.
Who’s the maker of the fixed blade, it’s a beauty.
Yes, it is true. I'm a bit envious. Not of your knives, or of your boat, although it is a thing capable of cultivating envy. I'm envious of your experience Tom. That's some sort of magnificent float-trip territory. Glad to hear all went well. And remember... "Those are memories, not scratches".I returned from my 3-day boat/camping trip this afternoon. I’m exhausted, and both the Green Heron and I are a little banged up, but everything went pretty much as I had hoped, and the trip seems to have had its intended effect on my spirit.
I tried to stay as much as possible in the small, shallow channels that run between islands and the river bank through much of my trip.

I saw all manner of spectacular raptors and waterfowl, but the most enchanting part was drifting silently with the current while clouds of swallows swooped and wheeled all around me, sometimes within a couple of feet from my head.
Sorry no knife content, but a few pictures of where I spent six days last week in Kings Canyon National Park. On the hazy side due to a forest fire, but we saw some incredible country. The first picture was taken from our campsite on the third night; frost on the tent and ice on the gear in the morning.

Thanks, Frank. It really is a blessing to have such a resource and refuge so close to my home. I can escape the nightmarish sprawling suburbs and be in peaceful surroundings with just a short drive, or even on my bike.Yes, it is true. I'm a bit envious.
