Tomorrow early am I’ll drive one of these “shadows” to the airport. Our oldest daughter is flying away back to college.
Last family walk until the Christmas break.
Our youngest had decided to stay home and take a gap year to work and save money.
Last evening she came to talk to me and shared her new plans.
She is joining her sister after the Christmas break to start college.
Incredibly proud of them both!
Why then does the looming empty nest hurts so much ?

We took my Mom camping to an island just as we had done last September.
We want to make it a family tradition for as long as possible.
The last two days turned cold, windy and rainy.
The star of the trip was my Silky Gomboy saw
as the wood that we had brought along did not last very long.
It processed a lot of wood from the nearby forest which helped feed the fire that kept us warm and lifted our spirits ... even when the cold drizzle was coming down.
We brought home a treasure trove of memories !
The night sky as I not seen a quite a while

Tomorrow very early AM I depart to attend the "Can-Am (Canadian-American) Dinghy Cruising Group" messabout in beautiful Bark Lake, Ontario.
It is a 3.5 hour drive northwest of where I live.
This is the 10th year the group has organized a trip at this lake and the first time I am attending.
Their next trip is in the Georgian Bay area in 3 weeks.
A lot of the guys go back a long time cruising together.
A couple of them will be driving more than 500 miles to attend .
There will be a variety of small boats and dinghies, even homebuilt mini houseboats made out of plywood.
As an introvert, this will be a little out of my confort zone
however I am looking forward to the event with excitement.For the trip I chose these two knives:
The Grohmann Bird and Trout will be very at home in the Canadian wilderness and the boat knife, kind gift of J Just Tom. will be very at home in a small boat messabout
I hope to have internet signal to share some of the boats and the nature around us.

I met truly wonderful and welcoming folks who share a love of small boats and nature.
I saw incredible sunrises and sunsets, magical morning mists and beautiful autumn vistas in unspoiled nature.
The area around the lake is all crown land so no developments or cottages ... just nature

The boats:
Just over 10 relaxing miles along the canal this morning - from mile 22.8 at Seneca to mile 28 and back. It was a bit muggy for late September, I assume because of what’s left of Helene, but not oppressively hot.
