Photos A Walk in Nature

M
Thanks everyone for the kind words !!!
They are very much appreciated

I have not been able to check in here much due to some unfortunate news that sort of came out of nowhere.
A week after my concussion my wife noticed a lump on her breast. Sadly it turned out to be cancer. There have been several diagnostic tests in the past few weeks and more to come.
Treatment will commence shortly ( chemo, some radiation and surgery)
Diana is one of the most positive and strong women on the planet and an inspiration for me in these difficult times.
In 26 years of marriage she has always being my rock. Now I need to be strong for her to be the support and rock she now needs me to be.
She tells me she is finding all of that in me and I pray I can continue to do so without faltering.
Keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

I'd like to share here as well that if everything works out as we are planning Ray RayseM RayseM and I will do a 6 day Rideau boating adventure later this summer ( early Sep ). We should be able to cover most of it and hopefully share our photogenic trad knives here
Cheers :)
My thoughts for your wife and your whole family Dan. I'll be praying for the speedy recovery of your wife.

Dan, glad to hear you are getting along better after your accident. That is sad news regarding your wife, and I will pray for you both. My sister found a cancerous lump just 4 months ago, and ended up getting a double mastectomy. The medical industry has progressed so much lately regarding this field, that even with her advanced stage cancer, they expect a full recovery. I hope your wife's treatment allows her a full and speedy recovery as well.

Enjoy your walks Dan :)
Thanks Jack :) , we are indeed looking forward to them. The weather had warmed up around here significantly for a few days and the "white stuff" is finally gone but then it rained for the past 3 days or so and now it looks like it's getting down to -11 C tonight with some white stuff forecasted for tomorrow :)

Prayers sent for your family Dan.
Gracias amigo :)
CelloDan CelloDan : I hate to read such things and hope you get better news soon (and the Missus as well of course 🙏). I'm curious to read your team adventures and stare 👀 at your autumn tour pictures.
Thank you !
If everything works out, Ray and I will be spamming this thread in the fall with our photogenic knives navigating the Rideau :)
Dan…
I’ll have you, Diana and your family in my thoughts and prayers as well good buddy.
Enjoy your walks out there :thumbsup:
Gracias Gus, your kind words are appreciated
Dan, Prayers and best wishes sent for the best outcome and a speedy recovery. I know the chickadees are rooting for you.

Thank you for the encouraging words my friend

Last week felt like it lasted forever to me. Waiting for test results which will determine treatment and outcomes sort of wore me down.
Yesterday we drove to Ottawa to meet with the oncologist who will direct the treatment. We had already met with 2 surgeons and gone for a biopsy, ultrasound, CT scans, bone scan, mammogram etc. There is and MRI pending and meeting with the radiologist as well next week.

The oncologist is a lovely and very caring person, gave us a lot of hope and will be aiming for a cure. That's why the treatment will take a long time, about 14 months total.

We felt relieved and with a sense of hope as we left the hospital.
I then drove Diana to a Best Buy store very close to the Ottawa Hospital Cancer Center and bought my hun a brand new Ipad. It will keep her company during those long chemo infusion sessions starting in less than 2 weeks.

In my pocket yesterday was my newly arrived Mount of Olive #77 Barlow which I had received just the day before after a long long wait ( Canada Customs decided it was just too special and kept it for a while ... it probably did not help that my father-in-law or post person misspelled "slipjoint" and put down "shipjoint" on the declaration lol )

I ordered this knife before we knew anything about what was about to be revealed to us and it came at the right time … the significance of the provenance of the scales of this knife was in a way comforting to me.

My last post "out in nature" on this thread was exactly 7 weeks ago today ... the day we noticed that something was not right and started this journey.
Pics from that day

I had picked my other #77 for that day as I felt quite excited to have been able to get in on the reserve for the Olive one

"Esperanza" in the background waking up from her winter slumber and so true to her name giving me "hope" that I'll navigate this one journey, supporting and encouraging Diana ... side by side with my beloved bride.

Nice post Dan, we miss ya around here. Take care of your family we’re pulling for ya!
🙏

Good mornin’ Dan !
Sounds like Diana’s in great oncologist hands and Esperanza’s ready for the season as well!! Ya, customs has certainly been really strange these past couple of months, really strange. The Mount of Olive 77 looks well placed and belongs in your great collection!!
Prayers and thoughts going your way
😇:thumbsup::thumbsup:

The white stuff’s back for one last blast before the winter bids us a farewell down here. Took a little walk earlier, in a close by ravine that’s not as urban as most of the others around these parts. It was a beautiful walk with great company….

Beautiful contrasting pictures guys, “A Tale of Two Seasons.” 😊

New hope and an older hope - new knife and a new iPad, good doctors and good friends, lots of love and warm days ahead, all bodes well for good things to come. I don't dismiss that Diana and you will face some difficulties and weariness, maybe even dread, in the year + to come but I pray for few of those days and an abundance of peace and steady progress. I am confident that she will be healed and you all will be blessed. You are daily in my thoughts. Be well Diana. Be strong Dan. 🌷

Maybe confusing with "pot joint"... 🤔 (btw "joint" has that same meaning in French) 😸

CelloDan CelloDan and RayseM RayseM :

In a bid to lift everyone’s spirits a little, I left my home on foot this morning, braving unseasonably cold weather and a stiff breeze, and made my way to a local stream valley where I scrambled up and down steep slippery slopes:

fought my way through a forest of newly-green sticker bushes:

and squished my way through muddy swamps:

… to bring you inspiring images of that spectacular late winter/early spring arrival, herald of the coming warm weather with its riot of life and color, Symplocarpus foetidus, known to those whose hearts are brought joy by its appearance as skunk cabbage 🤣:

Oh, and I saw a couple of bluebirds too, and some flowers. Whatever.

Quite a few of my local favorites there J JUST Tom, just a month earlier than here. Always something to look forward to. Thanks fo sharing.
Thankfully “went for a walk” was enough of an explanation of my morning’s activities to satisfy my wife when she called from work.

“Went to find some skunk cabbage so I could take a picture of my pocket knife on it and post about it on an old-timey pocket knife forum” seems a little - odd - when uttered out loud.

Dan prayers for your wife’s full and complete recovery. Prayers for you and wisdom for her medical team.
Thank you so much !
Dan, I'm happy to hear there is hope and light. 🤠
Gracias John :)
Hoping and praying for a smooth path to recovery . Shes got the ipad to occupy her and you have the knife with the magic scales to keep your morale up. Looking forward to a nature walk in 15 months time in celebration
Thank you !!!

AWESOME post my friend :) Your are a great trooper :cool:
It worked :)

 lol 😄

Thanks again for the kind words folks. Once again I'll make sure to share them with Diana.
It was actually she who told me a couple days ago " Don't quit posting on the knife forum ... that's your support group in a way " :)

We are hoping to go for a little walk tomorrow. It's going to be cold ( -7 C ) but dry.
I'll bring my new 77 Mount of Olive to snap a pic or two.

In the meantime I'll recycle a couple from last summer to keep the dream alive for more adventures to come :)
