Photos A Walk in Nature

Welcome to the Mountains of Szczawnica Poland.

A small resort mountain town in Southern Poland. Szczawnica is a well-known resort town amongst the locals and it's neighboring north east visitors from Slovakia. The abundance of alkali springs have been used to treat many respiratory and digestive issues for a few centuries and still do so to this day. Some spring waters even require a prescription from the doctor. Some other waters are offered in nebulized form for inhalation use.

The town is also well know for a few other activities and the real reason we visit here. Hiking 🥾 !

My wife was born in the farmlands inter dispersed within Krakow, Poland. It's a bit strange to see this outside the house.....PXL_20220629_131616588.jpg

Knowing this.... Is just a 15 min tram ride from the house. The square and it's infamous Cloth Hall surrounded by universities museums and a very busy city life.

Now back to our walk in nature.

This is my fourth visit to the mountains in Szczawnica. And I enjoy it more every time I'm here. My wife's babcia would make the 2.5 hour trek by bus with her grandkids almost every summer they visited. We have hiked biked rafted and strolled most of the immediate area. This year was my 3 year olds first time with boots on the trail here and my 6 year olds 2nd visit. For that reason we stuck to the easier trails this time around but even these easier trails offer some technical areas.

Occasionally we'd let the little one rest and carry her through small flatter sections as seen above. Being a lift accessed trail made it easier to carry light. Overall they enjoyed the climbs and did well.

Here a local tends to a trail. They take trail maintenance seriously here.

As her family says the people that go into the mountains come for the mountains so the trails are marked well and are well kept.

In the distance in the previous photo I posted you can see marker in the middle of the trail. This is the Polish - Slovakian border.

A close up.

Here is the Polish side

And the Slovakian side

Here in the distance you can see the Tatra mountains. The natural border between Poland and Slovakia. Just under the clouds.

And another beautiful view of some of the town down below.

Shortly before we finished our hike we noticed some storms must be brewing.

We headed back into town for lunch and to seek some shelter.

Speaking of which. This is a shelter used by my mother in law several decades ago on one of her backpacking trips.

Much like most of the things around the area this too has been given a facelift and they constructed a whole new facility next door to this. Here's the view from there.

The rain was welcomed in the area as it's been dry and near 32 to 34 degrees Celsius the last few days. Occasionally we'd stop to cool off along these natural little runoffs such as these that feed the springs or run into the Dunajec river that flows through the area.

We waited out the storm at a local restaurant. The areas surrounding are also well know for another favorite hobby of mine trout fishing. Unfortunately there's just never enough time to do everything while on vacation so this time around I had to opt for the locally caught version instead.

Looking at a week coming up of 100 degree days. So I'm already wishing my life away and waiting on fall. I took these a while back on property that brought Cherri and I together. Our land joined and that's how we met. Another blessing from the creator.

There were numerous times that we spotted a mysterious creature moving through the forest but were never able to make contact. The elusive being would just vanish before our eyes. We did manage to document one of these encounters.CE47DAEF-9B35-4911-8D6E-D8B203386A49_1_201_a.jpeg
Any help in identifying this creature would be appreciated.
