Adam and Haley DesRosiers(Consolidated Updates and Donations)

I miss you too Ryan. Miss all you guys...

That was huge, by the way. Truly

I started a new thread on Ryan Weeks' proposed project HERE
It's going to be a fairly involved project, and I don't want it to overflow into this thread and dilute it down at all.

Both of the CAS Black Bull knives sold today, WOOT!!!

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...-Black-Bull-CAS-OLD!!?p=15591783#post15591783

Will be posting up a knife made and donated by Phillip Patton tomorrow in the Exchange.

We are getting really close to the goal set for the crowdfunding website.

Adam and Haley have been busy getting the homestead set back up, Adam has gotten hold of a chainsaw and will be cutting wood for heating their home.

They didn't just lose their dogs, which are irreplaceable, or their shop equipment, which is sort of replaceable.

There was an upper floor of the shop had a fully set up area for storage and activities like relaxing, sleeping, sewing, writing.....they lost outdoor clothing, bows, guns, sewing equipment....basically 3/4 of what it takes 30 somethings their entire lives to accumulate.

I live in an area of SoCal that has been hit like much of the rest of the state with drought and fires over the last 15 years. We have had to evacuate our home twice....we were fortunate that we had a home to return to. We have close friends and people we see frequently who have lost everything in one of those two fires, the Cedar Fire in 2003 and the Witch Creek Fire in 2007. You never smell wood smoke the same again when you are home, that's for sure, it makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up.....it makes it hard to sleep.

The Cocos fire was started by a 13 year old girl intentionally last year in San Marcos, CA and destroyed more than 40 buildings, including a dozen single-family homes. Property damage from the fire was estimated at more than $5.7 million. Her family is personally responsible for $40,000 by judgement of the courts.

Think about what it feels like. Some of us haven't thought about much else since it happened to Adam and Haley.

There has been so much unexpected support and giving from the knife community that it really does warm the heart and give faith in the possible goodness of humanity.

Thank you!

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

STeven: I don't know whether or not it would be too intrusive, but if Adam and Haley could list non-shop items they need to replace some of us might be able to help them out. I know that choice of guns, outdoor gear and other such stuff is highly personal but I bet some matches could be found. Speaking as a sixty-something pushing seventy, I know I've accumulated more than I need and am not as active a user of much of my gear as I once was. It would be nice to find a good home for some of it. Maybe you could talk with them to feel them out on this?

The bidding on my donated knife is now over and the high bid goes to Les Alldredge. I have asked that the winning bid be applied directly to Adam's PayPal account.

Thanks all involved here.

Gary

It is a lovely knife, and a great gesture!

I'll do just that, Bob, and get the information back to this thread, thanks!

I think that is a great idea!!

Adam and Haley are truly grateful for the generous offers, and are blown away by Bob's willingness to help, but they feel that where and what donations can help most is getting the shop back up, tools in place and ready to work.

They want to work hard and buy their own stuff as needed, and right now, storage space is sort of "minimal";)

I'm thinking the same thing, only about the shop items.

Tools are a highly personal thing too.

What were they using, what do they need ?

Thanks for asking, STeven. I fully understand and half way expected as much but thought it was worth a try. Maybe later....

I'm one of the guys whose email may be in your spam filter I guess - sent to your gmail address like 3-4 days ago. Should I try again, or PM you?

Thanks Mark!

Folks, we are sooo close on the crowdfunding page, less than $700.00 and we met goal, pretty cool!

Will be posting up a Mike Craddock knife in the Exchange tomorrow that he donated, haven't even seen it yet.

SoCal has been inundated with El Nino rains this week, makes for some interesting driving...we got almost an inch of water so far this week, and it's causing flooded streets something fierce.....gonna rain tomorrow and Friday too.

Anyway, you all keep plugging away, and I'll do the same....and thanks again, so much, for the consistent and caring effort!

Best Regards,

guess what, the crowdfunding goal has been met ;) i was looking through and admiring all the names that had donated on the crowdfunding site with a smile on my face, and how close it was to the goal. then i saw that a guy named larry langdon who's shop burned down a few months ago donated $250! i almost fell out of my chair. i was blown away. does anyone know larry ? if anyone knows him find out if he needs anything for his shop. maybe i can send him something. i was thrilled a knife i donated brought $400.i am an unknown maker, i would have been happy if it brought $250. i am psyched to be getting a sam lurquin sub hilt bowie and paul long sheath that they donated. i will be smiling all day from cleaning up the crowdfunding goal. all that stuff still does not equal all the things i have learned (and been scolded about lol) on this forum over the years. you guys are priceless :)
