Ahh! :D I think I scored a GEC #46 Ironwood Whaler!! ♡

It will do that. I was just trying to caution you a little. The whaler is not your typical EDC. But they are selling or will sell fast based on prior experience. I know it will cut just fine. But it will be quite a wide lump in the pocket. Good luck with this and if you get the Whaler, I would love to hear your reactions from a user point of view.

Added: I get out my #36 Sunfish from time to time and just fondle it. It is really a beute. But it isn't practical for me at all for a user.

Yeah, apparently it is pretty gigantic. I've been warned. ^_^

Plus it can go in a sheath in my bag if all else fails. :)

No worries.
I just no longer make unsustainable claims like not buying more knives. :D

I used to think there was such a thing as enough knives, or "the one" that would end the search.
I was so amazingly wrong. ;)

Enjoy the new knife when it comes in; looks like it will be pretty neat.

Ha, I was thinking the same thing. :D

It is smaller than my #36 Sunfish. My Sunfish is 4.25" closed and beastly. So, the Whaler won't be quite the same deal. I purchased it when I first started looking at GEC's for a regular carry knife. All the numbers were confusing and there seemed little rhyme or reason to them. I got a #23 (4.5" closed) and decided it was too big for me for edc, but great for woods use and using a slip (back pocket carry). Then I got the Sunfish, and liked the size, but not the weight. Next came the #42 which is 4.25" closed just like the Sunfish and I like them. Have several actually and still a fairly large knife. I also got the next GEC size down (#72/#73) for comparison. Since then, I have gotten several of the Northwoods Madison Barlows (GEC's) the same length (4.25"). So, I have a small pile of GEC's in this size. One of the traditional forum knives was a #72 and I in fact purchased several in this size. It's a good size for a jack knife/trapper and easy to carry. The single blade version is very slim in the pocket. I tend to choose a two-blade version which are always thicker.

DLT (a BF sponsor last I checked) had them yesterday for about 10 minutes.

Good luck getting one, check out GECs website, the Muscle Bone version should be hitting dealers soon, and you may find you like the looks of that one better.
Yea, the Muscle Bone is next and looks nice in the pictures. It amazes me how quickly these knives sell. DLT is a great dealer. I have never been displeased with their service.

I fell in love with one for trade over on the BF trading forums this afternoon - and since I have a few bucks to spend for once - have been looking far and wide across the internet ever since. I ACTUALLY found one! It's on hold for me! ^_^

This is not The One on hold, but it will look identical (found this photo on Google :p):

Has anybody else scored one of these beautiful knives at retail value? The only other ones I see are on EBay priced into oblivion.

Also, how is your weekend going? Happy Weekend you guys! :)

Can't say that I'm a fan of this.

GEC #46 Ironwood Whaler!! ♡
That's beautiful ! ! !
I'm soooooo jealous (but happy for you).
I love those things to. I have kind of an inexpensive replica but really want to get a real one one day.
How's my weekend going ? It just started about 5:30 p . . . had to work all day Sat. at a rushyrush job. Bladeforums is where I go to chill and sip something good.
Thank you for posting this; I look forward to seeing the actual one you get.
Here's mine for what it's worth (a Sunfish actually; not a Whaler). It was supposed to be dark brown, they called it "tobacco" but it arrived this light yellowish color. I think it looks really good but surrrrrrrre wasn't what I was expecting. It cost a little of nothing so I didn't send it back.
