Ahh! :D I think I scored a GEC #46 Ironwood Whaler!! ♡

Hey guys! :)

So IF the company can fix the cosmetic defects for this seller, he will sell it to me for a great price! :) He does not have a pouch or sheath that fits it though!

Do any of you have any recommendations on a leather pouch that fits the #46 Whaler? I really want to store it safely.

Thanks! ^_^

PS: I've read all of these messages and thank you all for writing in here with cool ideas and pictures and things! :) I am SO sorry I'm really really bad at responding to individual messages. :/ ♡

That's beautiful ! ! !
I'm soooooo jealous (but happy for you).
I love those things to. I have kind of an inexpensive replica but really want to get a real one one day.
How's my weekend going ? It just started about 5:30 p . . . had to work all day Sat. at a rushyrush job. Bladeforums is where I go to chill and sip something good.
Thank you for posting this; I look forward to seeing the actual one you get.
Here's mine for what it's worth (a Sunfish actually; not a Whaler). It was supposed to be dark brown, they called it "tobacco" but it arrived this light yellowish color. I think it looks really good but surrrrrrrre wasn't what I was expecting. It cost a little of nothing so I didn't send it back.

I really love that color too, @Wowbagger! Wait, so what knife is that exactly? Is it a replica? It's really cool! :)

GEC makes leather pocket slips as does Knives Ship Free. The large size can handle a 4.5" closed length slippie. There are some around that include a clip, but that really isn't important to me with a slippie.

As far as the seller and cosmetic defects. I would pass unless the price is really good (like $30 less). Chances are you won't do anything or I wouldn't. It really depends on what we're actually talking about so it's hard to generalize as to what I would do.

Well it is supposed to get fixed to perfect condition, so it's going to be fine once I get it. He's selling it to me for just a little under $134 including shipping. Hey, 22-rimfire 22-rimfire , do you think you could post a link to the pouch you are talking about? I want to make sure I get the right one. :)

They are not pouches that attach to your belt. They are leather slips designed to "slip" into your pocket or hand bag to protect the knife from scratches. Even if you bought the wrong size (aka too small), you'll eventually use it. They run about $20 or a little less. Collectorknives, KSF, GEC, and GEC dealers often have them. The KSF version is thick leather and high quality! AG Russell sells an assortment of pouches.

Oh that KSF one sounds great! :)

There are these ones from GEC that go on your belt, I can't vouch for them being the right size though. Otherwise there's always the DIY Option ;)

I have a couple of those. Yes, I was thinking of that one. But I also noticed they have other ones now. Apparently they're fairly popular.

The GEC ones are pretty good too. I have one of those and they come in two sizes, small or regular and large I believe. I assume the ones with the belt attachment would be sized the same. One of the GEC dealers gave me one along with some other stuff as I purchased three knives from him that day at a show. So, I could actually try out the fit.

The guy selling me the Whaler says he doesn't know of any GEC pouches/sheaths/slips that would fit it. :/

Could be true. I worry about the same thing. KSF is moving very close to where I live and I will be able to just drop by their store in about a month and fondle everything. They are moving Memorial Day weekend from MI to TN. It is the fatness of the knife that you have to be worried about not the length so much.

I think you're right. Like I said, they aren't real expensive. But I suppose with some fancy leather the price could go up considerably.

You might even be able to call GEC and ask directly. After all, they are making the knives and should have some lying around.

Just tried out the GEC with belt loop that I have... it fits my #36 Sunfish (just barely) so should easily fit the #46 Whaler. This is the large size and I forgot that my GEC made slip/pouch had the belt loop. I believe that makes it a little more expensive.

Okay, that might answer my question but I'll still ask. Okay, I've got $150. I am SO torn between the GEC #46 Whaler or getting a Buck Vanguard with this super cool sheath. I know the GEC is much rarer and more valuable... but I honestly still do not know what to do! I can only get one of the two options. What would you guys do?

No question.
I'd get the GEC "Whaler".
I'm a big fan of the Sunfish/Whaler/British Rope Knife/Elephant Toenail/ Pocket Axe/ and/or whatever other names it is known by. :D.

The only ones I've been able to afford so far, are the Rough Rider's.
Great knives, and believe it or not, they do not print in your pocket, even though they are such a large knife. :)

I just jammed my new Whaler (which is completely awesome) into the Large GEC belt sheath (the one with the belt loop and flap closure) and it does indeed fit in it.

Not that great however. It's a tight fit, width wise, and the sheath has a lot of extra space on the top end when the knife is in it.

The KSF website has this statement on the webpage for the 46 Whaler.

“Please note - this knife does not fit in our pocketslips.”
