It makes a world of difference.
I will even go out on a limb by saying that there may be a very slight chance that the rubber liners could help absorb a tiny bit of shock.

Hmm, I may give that a try, thanks!

I recalled some discussions and criticisms regarding the handle of the 10 soon after the first release. If my memory serves me the consensus was to go a little smaller on the handle. Perhaps Guy might consider making and selling spacers for those of you with larger hands for all of his knives. With the biological diversity that is out there, it will be really hard to please all of the people, all of the time with a single size.

Chambelona- I like that sheath also (in addition to the knife). Thanks for the photos. Mike

I doubt that very much. Liners made of smooth rubber/neoprene etc. will almost certainly prevent any possible problems of moisture seeping under the scales, though

Hi guys looking to replace my fallkniven A1 which GSO compares to the A1 best . If any one have pictures that would be great thanks .

The GSO 7/7 would be quite close , but slightly larger and the GSO 6 would also be close , but slightly smaller .

GSO 7.7 and 6.0 will both be heavier and feel really different in the hand than the A1. I like the A1, but for my money, the GSO lineup is more capable in the woods. It does have a cost though in the weight. Nothing is free.

Anyone get any shipping notices from Survive today now that SHOT is over?

Nope. Haven't heard a thing. Josh answered my email just before they left for SHOT. He said mine, one of the cpm20cv 4.1s, would most likely ship towards the end of the month.

I'm getting frustrated at this point. Don't get me wrong, I'll be the first to defend Guy and say his knives are outstanding. I got in on the first preorder of the 3v GSOs back in late 2012. And I understood from the beginning of that order that it required a long wait. The knives had to be made first. And I understand that back then, Guy had a lot of growing pains since almost everything is outsourced to someone else. There was a lot out of his control.

However, when I bought the stainless version on Dec 24, Guy ADVERTISED that they were ready and available. Some were already boxed up. Some had a short delay, waiting on sheaths. I would have no problem if he said up front, that there would be a month wait time. But that wasn't the case. It was described as ready.

I'm confident this is the last time I will ever order from them direct. There are plenty of his knives available from dealers that don't play this same game.

It took a little over a month to get my jimpless 4.1. I thought that they were ready to go out the door as well. I guess that this is the way it is going to be. We either accept it, or cancel orders and buy BRK or a bunch of other good US made knives.

I also took a shot and placed my order for the GSO 4.1 in CPM20CV before the Christmas cut off because Guy indicated that those would get shipped out before they left for the SHOT show. I still have received no shipment notice and no email indicating a delay or a reason.

This situation does tick me off a bit because the order page specifically stated that if you placed your order by that date, it would get shipped by a certain date.

I know, I know, there were no affidavits signed in blood, but c'mon, why put that kind of message to your paying customers on your order page, being that specific with dates if you couldn't honor it? That's ridiculous. Don't put yourself out there like that if you can't meet that obligation.

Yes, I think we all get it by now....He's a really nice person...he makes great knives and yes, they are worth waiting for.....

But for cryin' out loud, he's gotta get a handle on the this time/ETA issue. Also, he's gotta start showing his customers a little more respect via his operations, not just if he's friendly on the phone or at a show. If you put on your order page that if (a) the customer orders by a certain date, then (b) the product will get shipped by a certain date...and you don't meet that commitment, send a note explaining the reason for the delay. I think I can speak for our group on one point....we are an understanding and supportive bunch, and we're not out to bury Guy under a mountain of criticism if it's undeserved and we'll heap loads of praise when it is.

Geez, I figured if he was going to be that specific, it was worth taking a shot. Looks like I was wrong.

I know I'll get the knife EVENTUALLY....it's just disappointing and not worth the frustration for future purchases.

I think what he needs to do first is just set up some email groups whenever he takes orders (i.e. money). This way, he can keep track of where his customers are in each item's production cycle. If there's a problem meeting an obligation (regardless of reason -- initial production, testing, sheath delay, etc.), he knows exactly who to shoot a note to. Problem with the GSO 4.1, pull up that group and fire off a note without bugging the GSO 5.1 customers.

We do this all the time where I work. We'll have different groups of constituents for different projects. We can just pull up that group and fire off a note. Obviously, I don't know what software he has, but I believe most do have this ability.

If he doesn't like that idea or his software doesn't have that ability, that's what the News page on the website is for!!. Yeah, each update may not apply to all your customers, but it accomplishes two very important things:

1. Shows your existing customers respect and increases their comfort level by keeping them informed...
2. Shows your prospective customers that they will be kept informed if they become paying customers.

Going forward, I want to see less of all the great stuff he has in the pipeline, and more of straightening out the meeting of existing obligations. Once he nails that down, then he can focus on expansion. It does no good to try to ramp up production capacity if you're just going to take even more orders while you have not straightened out your ability to provide reasonable ETAs and your communication issues. All you will do is ramp up the scale of your problems.

^^^ THIS - JCW, you nailed it IMO. I've been thinking this for a long time now. I've been one of Guy's biggest fans for a while now, almost from the beginning - I really WANT him to succeed. And, without repeating what many others have said, I hope this part of his business gets resolved - SOON!!

I may or may not continue to do pre-orders from Survive!.. I don't NEED anything he's putting out or that I anticipate down the road and, while I can afford to have a few hundred or so bucks tied up until the knives eventually arrive, the lack of communication and the busted promises of delivery dates make me hesitate.

Yep, as stated: the knives are great and Guy is a great, well, guy but this is starting to sound like many stories that start out with, "I had the best of intentions but..."

He said that preorders are done with the 3.1 being the last preorder knife. I think he did the preorders to raise capital. Now that he has it he can ramp up production and produce knives in batches and sell them.

I've had a lot of luck ordering from the few dealers that get them. I also ordered a few direct and waited, it doesn't really bother me that much but either way you wait.

These knives can be had from vendors. I placed an order with the knife connection and received it within 3 days. Unless you have custom work you wanted of course.

I've been looking for the right knife for a while for camping and backpacking. I've gone through a lot of production and customs and the 4.1 I got yesterday is by far the closest to perfect that I have yet found. It may just be the one that ends the search. I still need to get out and really test it but I can't see it not being ideal from the fuzzies and stuff I was able to do at home. It has great steel, great HT, a sheath that is one of the best I've used, subtle contouring which helps but doesn't hinder, lightweight for what it is and an EDGE THAT WORKS OUT OF THE BOX. Great knife and worth every penny. Thanks to you guys for talking me into it.:D

JCW, that was as objective constructive criticism as I think that I have read here in BF. I think that it summarizes much of what has been expressed in the past 16 pages. Thank you for being fair, and for summarizing many of the sentiments here. We all want Guy to succeed. I guess it is up to Guy now.

On a side note...
I have a GSO 10 coming my way early next week via private seller. Pretty excited to go out and beat the snot out of it!
It is a matching set to my 4.1 which is my favorite knife.
Anyone try to piggyback the sheathes on these yet?

I completely agree.
