Allan Blade

Is this not an auction we suggested here and was dismissed by Joe? I understand the knife belongs to a member of that forum and the money will not come from Allen.

Is this correct?
Thanks

No not quite Wolfman.

The guy the knife was sent to (sargey) ws sent a knife that was off spec, I think he wanted something based round a "bushcrafter" and got something based round a "field puukko". He told Allan and Allan said he would send another out to sargey. Instead of sargey sending this back to Allan, Allan asked that this knife be auctioned off and the proceeds to go to Joe Chen. The knife belongs to Allan, it's in my posession and Allan has asked that the cash raised from it's auction, go towards paying his debt to Joe?

Bit confusing I know.

As noted earlier, this was a knife put up for auction for the specific purpose of getting funds directly to Joe Chen. In essense, someone buys a knife from Blade buy sends the money directly to Joe and not to Blade. Hardly spam, especially when it was openly discussed in this thread for quite some time before the link was put up and a mod even *approved* it. Even if this wasn't the case, the link could have just been edited out and Martyn emailed if it was felt there was a better way to direct people's attention to Joe's auction without throwing around SPAM labels and threatening bans. Martyn you might want to post on Knifeforums and rec.knives as there are those that read there that might be interested.

Good points Cliff, but I'm not really advertising it anyway. As it stands, it's at £170 (about $300USD) which is a damned good price for that knife and by itself will wipe out about half of Allans debt to Joe.

I do understand the need for rules. I am very strict on BritishBlades and normally wouldnt allow the same advertising of an auction. But also there are occasions when exceptions should be made. As someone said, rules are for the obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men.

We're getting our signals crossed here. As I posted earlier:

Normally we wouldn't allow an auction to be advertised here, but of course this is different.

Apparently not all the moderators have gotten the message that this is an exception to the normal rule. Sorry about the confusion. We'll get it sorted out....

I don't in general prefer that grind on that price of knife, but it looks well done as usual for Blade. He does nice Kydex work as well. I recogonize that grip, I have a MEUK with a similar profile. I always meant to pick up one of Blades larger bowies, enclosed handles are rare of those compared to slab tangs.

Nice to see you taking the extra step to help out Joe, my earlier judgement was obviously mistaken, sorry. Based on the posts in this thread, in particular the extreme ones from Keith, I can see why you would have taken steps to prevent that unproductive ranting from taking place on your forum.

No need to apologise.

I saw no mileage in re-enacting the same battles.

It's a different forum Cliff. We just do things a little differently. :)

My ISP was down last night, so I would like to apoligize to Joe and Martyn.
I had not heard about the auction for Joe.

Gus

It looks like Joe is going to get a pretty fair percentage of what he is owed out of this auction. Hopefully the rest will come quickly as well.

Great news. I got notify emails from paypal and Martyn, the highest bidder sent me $190GBP, after minus the paypal fee 6.66GBP and converted it into USD. I got $311.91USD from the auction.

Now it's only $598.62-$311.91=$286.71 left.
This is the BIGGEST step and I see there has a day the long-time-overdued problem will be resolved. I can't tell you what a big release I feel right now.

For the record and to prove how much I got. Here has a picture I cut from my paypal screen.

Thank you very much for all of you who help me out, I really appreciate your kindness. Also for the highest bidder, thank you very much.

Regards,
Joe

Glad to hear this is being resolved Joe. Thank you to all involved for the effort.

Great news on the auction, Joe.

I'd also like to thank Martyn for organising this one, it was indeed a success. I must say it's really sweet to see everyone digging in for this cause.

Thanks to you mate for bidding so well.

I'm glad to see Joe getting his money back. Dont forget Allan Blade asked for the knife to be auctioned ...and Sargeys good will too for passing it on without a worry.

Basically there has been a lot of good will all round here, in an attempt to resolve this long running issue. I hope it will work out for the best for everyone. Some people will doubtless think some of us a little foolish for putting a bit of faith in Allan. Maybe they will be right, I dont know ...but whatever happens, this tastes better than all the bitterness, dont you agree?

I agree. Thank you Martyn for all your efforts on Joe's behalf. Roefisher, that was a very gererous bid, good on ya. Allan, it's great to see you doing what you can to get Joe paid off, keep it up. Also, thanks to sargey for all his help.
