Crimson, Hows it going bud?

I never had the pleasure of beating on 3V. Soon this problem will be corrected!!!

Indeed it will. I need to call Aldo today and check on the status of an order I've got in too... He's gotten really bad about email communication lately, so phone is the way to go.

I might do a Black Friday deal on some of the blades I've got that aren't moving. I think I might need a project 9.

Um, sign up for it?

Id already have signed up for the auction site and be using it A LOT if it didnt take paypal as like the only form of payment.

Cant/Wont mess with paypal. Dont like them or their practices. I cant support something that literally goes against my beliefs in human rights, but now we are getting into a whole new, probably not allowed, conversation.

I've never had one problem with Paypal, or the bay, knock on wood.

I have no idea why the camp knife is still available, thats a great design, great steel, and fabulous price!! I would have been all over that a while ago, especially at that price if it wasnt for prior agreements! I hated i couldnt get it, but it led to our project now so in the end i think its going to work out great!!

Since I don't subscribe to the theory that we are evolved from primates, the question you pose has no relevance to my statement.

However, if you do believe in evolution, my answer to you would be..... 42

So I want to strip my BK10, 16, and maybe a 7 I have yet to aquire. One ounce of etchant is enough to do the logos on three knives, right? Never stripped a laser engraved Becker so acid etching the logo is new to me.

Another question. Where, besides ordering it online, might I find etchant?

I would go with electro-etching, if you have any DC power source (car battery charger, wall wart charger, bigger battery or even a 9-volt battery) it's a lot easier and cheaper and you probably have everything you need at home or can buy at Radio Scraps for a few bucks. Here's the thread of me doing my 16:

I have used PCB etchant, electro-etching was way easier and far more controllable. You can even blacken it with the same process and an AC wall wart; that way it pops after you strip the knife. My $.02.

Got a question for y'all. Any of you guys know any method to dissolve or remove a patina WITHOUT actually having to polish or sand the blade?
Possible scenario: I put the blade in a bath of some chemical, or even better a product you have around the house, leave it in for a while, take out the blade and when you rub it lightly with a piece of cloth it would just come off? Or does something like that simply not exist?

"Bar Keeper's Friend" will take it right off. It's a cleaning product that's been around forever. You can get liquid or powder. I use the liquid. Just squirt some on a rag and wipe the patina right off.

Bon Ami works great as well. That and Barkeeper's Friend also do a great (and thoroughly safe) job of cleaning no-stick pots and pans.

Ooooh - What kind of black Friday deals? I'm about tapped out right now, but I am quite enamored by the camp knife. :o

Don't worry Todd, Magua money is safe!

I absolutely love my 15 for just about any cutting task. I cant even go back to my mora or any other blade not because of it. The only thing that has been competing in the thinner longer (+4") crafting blade range is the old frontier forge knife I reshaped the handle on but the 15 holds an edge better. Anyways, the ergos on the tweeners are amazing, but there has been only one small grief, the "neck" of the handle is a little too slim so when I really really put out on the blade it bears down on the web of my thumb and pointer causing some discomfort. SO... I made some liners to help alleviate this problem. Went out and tested and yes the web discomfort problem is gone but the handles are definitely thicker. Will have to test for a while longer to see if I actually like it. So far so good. Also did some testing with the stippled handles this weekend awesome grip!, but not for comfort.... Put a coat of paint on them to make them a bit less grippy, but these would be absolutely perfect for slick, bloody tasks like dressing a deer. Now I just need some micarta to try out, I think micarta with liners would be killer.

If you still have the peanut butter scales, you should try media blasting them to see how that feels. I blasted my 9's givory and I really like the added "grip," but they are still smooth, or at least smoother than stippled scales.

I found a pair of grivory media blasted scales I got in a trade (i think) and put them on my new 10. I like the way they feel in hand, but they are still a little too slick for me.

Those stippled scales are the "peanut butter" ones lol! I have done some media blasting before and you are right it definitely adds that bit of grip. I ended up just sanding the scales on my 2 and it had basically the same effect for me. I like the slickness of the full size Beckers. In my opinion the handles on them really cannot get any better, but the 15 is just that little bit too slim in one place... handling the knife with the liners I think the "heel" of the handles might be a little too thick, but I would rather have that than too thin up top.

Yes, micarta and liners makes the 15 into THE knife :)

Yeah, I suspect that it adds just the right amount of grip and thickness to make it perfect, but I am still in the "I could buy a knife for the amount the scales cost" phase. Probably going to get a 5 in December, but then I might need to take a step back and start putting some money into my 15... my sheath is falling apart from daily use and I am convinced about the micarta.

Wait, what? Ah - I see where you said you painted them. Good job then, you fooled me.

Yah they started out as stock tan scales then they were this....

Then this...

Then they were stripped back to tan using paint stripper... FYI paint stripper will slowly leach out rit dye...

Then I stippled them...

Now they are stippled, painted, and lightly sanded to bring out a little of the tan.... suckers have been through a lot!

DANG I should have done something unique like that to mine! Very cool WW and BSmith.

On a side note I was actually fairly surprised how easy it was to stipple... I used a wood burner with what would be I guess a calligraphy tip or something. It didnt take as long as I thought it would either. Again, this would be the perfect mod for a knife that is going to get covered in blood and slick fat. However, I still have the horse stall mat mod in the works ;)
