Alternatives to "Beer Scout Knife?"

I wouldn’t mind at all if GEC simply dropped the Beer Scout name and shield, but continued to make more with regular GEC shields like these two beauties.

I’d like to see the same but with a clip or spear main blade.

Oh, I LOVE Dr. Pepper! Second favorite soda. I believe the ones from Dublin, Texas are still made with cane sugar. (Third favorite is Big Red.)

It’s my second favorite, too, Vince. Coke and Dr. Pepper are the only two I really drink any more (and I try my best to do so in moderation). I can’t tell you how long it’s been since I’ve had a Big Red! :D

Whether or not GEC makes another SFO is probably open for debate, but I think its pretty clear that there are no more ‘beer scout’ branded knives coming due to the legal issues.

But GEC could easily turn out more of the same pattern on the 15 (sheep foot and bottle opener). Exactly the same as the crown lifters that were slow sellers . I suspect they won’t do that in quite a while though, given the numbers of those knives that were recently produced.

In retrospect, a shame that the second run of beer scouts didn’t come out with nicer covers.

Personally, I would like to see a move away from bottle openers to another form of secondary tool. The fisherman in me would like scissors but I don’t know if that is possible for GEC to produce. A GEC fisherman’s knife with a blade and scissors could be as much of a classic as the BS.

I think there’s more that differentiates the Beer Scouts and Crown Lifters than just the name. I‘d say the Beer Scouts have been given more interesting covers than the Crown Lifter (although the last Beer Scout run had a couple of duds), plus you have a shield, bail, long pull vs. nail nick, etc. Obviously tastes will differ, but I think the Beer Scouts are much better looking knives than the rather plain Crown Lifters.

GEC did a fishing knife in their Farm & Field line (with a long clip blade and a hook remover/descaler), didn’t seem to be very popular. I don’t really see GEC doing anything with scissors, but I guess you never know.

Speaking of the notch, the problem with the beer scout is the EZ open notch is in the wrong position - the sheep’s foot doesn’t really need it and the bottle opener does

You’re right that the sheepsfoot on those could be pinched open even without the EO notch, but it does make it even easier. I’m not sure how the EO notch could be moved to help open the caplifter?? Unless you’re talking about the sort of very shallow relief notch some knives have on one side to access the nail nick of a low-riding blade? But that’s a different sort of thing altogether, and (in my opinion) unnecessary for the caplifter on the Beer Scout.

I'm just now finding this thread, and probably won't read all five pages of posts, so forgive me if this has already been mentioned. But the most recent run to my knowledge of non-Beer-Scout-branded knives of this style were simply called Crown Lifters. They've done a variety of blade shapes over the years, clips, rare spears, and sheepsfeet (hah). But I'll bet they run Crown Lifters again. So if it's just the name "Beer Scout" that's not okay, then we're talking about a knife with a shield vs. a knife without a shield, and that shield could just as easily read "Crown Lifter".

BTW, when in the world did this suit even happen?

When I hear the word scout, camping or hiking come to mind first. Trail knife sounds good to me. I don't think I've ever been camping, canoeing or walking the woods without a pocket knife. A good knife with a bottle opener is very handy.

Both look good, but I still prefer the large labeled banner like shield. I think that’s part of what really sets the knife apart. For name suggestions I like ..... Beer Camp Knife or just the simple Beer Knife.
