Wife and I recently made a deal in which I am "allowed" to buy a new knife...

Now, I have bought most of my knives without "permission", we're cool like that, though she does give me a bit of s#!% when I do, especially more expensive ones. She's bought a few as gifts, some nice ones too, so it was more of a running joke that I was "allowed", but anyways...

I've scoured all the usual sites, all the big ones, all my favorite smaller ones, dug through the marketplace here, and even google-fu'd some new ones with a lesser known online footprint... I have a pretty good budget in mind, looking in the roughly $600 range give or take...
Yet after hours upon hours of scouring knife porn (to her dismay mind you), not a single thing jumps out at me as a "oooo, I must have it"...

Am I broken? Am I cured? Something just ain't right it seems...

"Sometimes, my dear strategy9 strategy9 , a knife is just a knife. My bill is in ze mail."

My wife helps me control my addiction, as well. ;)
I've gotten real picky lately, because I think 200+ is probably more than enough.
My self imposed spending limit has always been $100 to $150.

I would say after years of being in the hunt for the next great knife. The one you want and must have usually pops up when you least expect it. Sometimes you are prepared to pounce and it works out and your new precious fills that itch. Other times it doesn’t work out and years may go by before the stars may align, and sometimes it may never work out. But I think for many it is the hunt that is enjoyable. There is something about the search, discussion, and working it out in your mind that is enjoyable.

M mabrowns I definitely don't "need" permission. If you read the rest you'd see that I stated I have bought most of my knives without "permission", and that it was more of a joke... She really wanted me to go plant and flower shopping with her, which normally I don't mind but really wasnt in the mood that day, so I said, "just so you know, if I go, I'm buying a new knife!" She rolled her eyes and said ok...

000Robert 000Robert I do not... I also do not have knives from tons of makers and models... I still like 'em, appreciate 'em, and enjoyed scrolling and admiring all of 'em, from customs and one-offs, to productions, but just none at the moment (incl. the dek1) speak to me right now... idk... just ain't feeling 'em?

Anybody know of anybody doing real nice Emerson Po'Boy conversions right now, with books open? Maybe I'll just get my Gentleman Jim spiffy'd up a bit?

I solved the problem. My wife is retired and I deposit $$$ into her own personal account every check. That way she can buy what she wants without me having to worry about overrunning the checking account when bills are due. The benefit of that is she ignores what I buy :)

My wife used to accompany me to the Blade Show, knows tons of custom and production makers, and actually encourages me to buy whatever makes me happy, as she knows I'm fiscally responsible and she'll never go wanting.

Dangerous policy, but God love her.

Sounds like we're both pretty lucky in that realm.

I'd wait and take a look at what CPK is coming out with later this year.

T tomsch yeah, I give my wife cash every other week. She works too, so the money I give her usually goes into savings for vacations and emergency funds, etc. She's definitely more fiscally responsible when it comes to that. My extra funds usually wind up in either my IRA or the custodial account I have for my kid, and she doesn't really care what I spend my money on so long as the bills are paid, but whenever I do buy another $200+ knife she'll give the customary wife's, "oh brother, did you really need another one?" Lol... This agreement was more;
"I'm gonna buy (another) one, and you can't say anything about it" more then it was a "permission" to do it...

And Blues Blues indeed it sounds like we are. Lord knows I am, and you seem pretty convinced as well so... cheers to that!
