Am I Broken?

I'd say no, but depends on why you buy knives. My first few years into knives I bought and sold dozens of knives. Eventually, I found what I like and stuck with those. Now, I may buy 1 or two knives a year. It depends if you're a user or a collector. I just wanted to find the best tool(knife) for different situations, which I'm pretty happy with my current rotation. Now, I focus more on high-end watches, or building a custom computer/customizing my office/gaming set up. If knives aren't doing it for you right now, I'd look at a new hobby, plenty of other interesting tools/gadgets out there, and wait until new knife designs/technology come out in the upcoming years.

G Gideons I get it. Honestly, aside that I like them, and steel in general, I couldn't even tell you why I buy them anymore... I have a pair of SHF's, a small and large Sebenza, an Emerson and a waved Endura, a G.Muller, a D.Boye, as well as a pair of 110's, a handful of S&M's, a couple SAK's, and a couple dozen more all the way down to a CRKT Free Range I still beat on... a dozen or so fixed blades in various sizes, a half dozen Mora's, 4 machetes... 50 or so vintage straight razors from various steel hubs of yesteryear...

My knives, I use 'em, none are "safe queens" persay, but obviously some see rougher and tougher days then others... I wouldn't carry a Sebenza on a canoe trip into no man's land... Risk v. Reward right?but in any case, I do appreciate the design factor and stylings of folders particularly, fixed blades are more utilitarian for me, but yeah, just at the moment, as many out there that I do like, (like the limited edition damasteel MKM Burnley Arvenis caught my eye, but not enough to click "buy now"), just none really entice me enough to pull the trigger right now. Just weird, as normally I'll have a mental list of 4 or 5 I'd buy right now at any given time if I had the justifiable funds, and right now I do have the funds, but the mental list is blank?

Interesting! I do like it... Typically I don't spend that much on my fixed blades though. I'm more of a folders guy once I get into the >$300 realm... I won't say never though, as once upon a time I wouldn't spend more then $120 on a folder so... There is still that chance...

I'm the same but I've recently started looking at fixed blades differently. Mostly, I think, due to spending more time in the knifemaker's section here. BladeMan is a member here.

Maybe you already have all of the knives that really do what want or are looking for in a knife? I am pretty much in the same place with firearms.I think I may be in the same place as you regarding knives. I don’t really see anything out there that makes me want to reach for my wallet.

I would say after years of being in the hunt for the next great knife. The one you want and must have usually pops up when you least expect it. But I think for many it is the hunt that is enjoyable.
....after years of being in the hunt for the next great knife/wife....
Either one works out..."been there"...

Besides the Spyderco Shaman, I'm honestly at the same place in my journey.

I have the right flashlight, the right multitool, and several awesome knives.

Wife and I recently made a deal in which I am "allowed" to buy a new knife...

Now, I have bought most of my knives without "permission", we're cool like that, though she does give me a bit of s#!% when I do, especially more expensive ones. She's bought a few as gifts, some nice ones too, so it was more of a running joke that I was "allowed", but anyways...

I've scoured all the usual sites, all the big ones, all my favorite smaller ones, dug through the marketplace here, and even google-fu'd some new ones with a lesser known online footprint... I have a pretty good budget in mind, looking in the roughly $600 range give or take...
Yet after hours upon hours of scouring knife porn (to her dismay mind you), not a single thing jumps out at me as a "oooo, I must have it"...

Am I broken? Am I cured? Something just ain't right it seems...

It is not a folder that you want..... Try a fixed knife :). Hang out in the Exchange, at the two fixed blade fora, and - trust me - ideas will come.

000Robert 000Robert I do not... I also do not have knives from tons of makers and models... I still like 'em, appreciate 'em, and enjoyed scrolling and admiring all of 'em, from customs and one-offs, to productions, but just none at the moment (incl. the dek1) speak to me right now... idk... just ain't feeling 'em?

I don't see how anyone could not be "feeling" a DEK1. It looks like the perfect EDC knife to me. And it's a lot less than $600. To each their own. Good luck with whatever knife that you choose.

Here is a test. What do you think of when you hear these words? Carothers. Demko.

Check out Hinderer if you don't have any. They are $425 and that leaves you a little room for some accessories.

In a custom folder, I'd look for a Demko knife.

In a custom fixed blade, depending on style, I'd grab a Ben Tendick, or Phillip Patton, or another great maker off the exchange here.

My most carried fixed blades are from Tendick, Patton, and a little neck knife from J. Todd.

Narrowing down what you are looking for would help.

expand ur search. I'm in the same spot and always look in the $150-$300 range and just not seeing anything that jumps out. I've always wanted a sunfish pattern and never see them....came across a rough ryder blue mule sunfish....its only $15 with brass liners g10 and its big 4" closed weighing in at 4 oz. only 440 steel but whatever its $15 it checks enough boxes and I just want a sunfish knife. not the gec I want but at least a sunfish will arrive to use. maybe check different price points than you've budgeted yourself for and you might find a knife that intrigues you. there's always something you didn't know was out there

I'm gona go against the grain of everyone else and say don't buy one. You said you've scoured the sites looking and nothing jumps out at you so wait. Put the money aside and just wait...eventually something you'll see on here will catch your eye or you'll stumble on something you like unexpectedly. If you just settle on something now after looking and looking your not gona feel great about it after.

I'll throw my 2 cents in anyway with a pick though as I just found out about the arno bernard iMAMBA in mammoth molar and its sweet looking! The kudu bone one is pretty awesome as well.
