Am I the only one that thinks the PM2 is.....Meh.

Well, the lock just works. It is one of the strongest production locks on the market. A lot of people think that it's a gimmick of some sort. Then again they said the same thing about the Axis, Triad, and others. Then again, I am based as I own a couple of them and really like them.

I agree. The lock is one of the strongest and one of the easiest of all to use. I have large hands and found it very easy to use the first time I touched one.

I own a couple of them

Thats pretty funny, Charlie :p

I love the para 2 but im not one for the hype. I got my first one over 2 years ago when I had no idea what the knife community was, I just liked knives and thought they were cool and useful. My dad got me a black/digicam para for my birthday cause I thought it looked so cool but I didnt really know what I was getting into as far as how nice it was compared to the cheap gerbers and other gas station knives I was used to so I can thank the para 2 for getting me into the knives I am today (and the thousands I have spent). I agree with the OP in that I prefer the military and also the manix 2 xl (but not the regular manix 2) which are my 2 favorite knives ever.

I have several nice knives, including a sng and a crk 25 and a spy. southard among others, and I would be happy carrying any of them. But the the pm2 keeps finding its way into my pocket. Love the large handle for the size of the blade for my edc uses, which include landscaping and other moderately heavy uses. Not he greatest at any one thing , but the best combination of features of any knife I have. And unquestionably my best value . In my opinion.

I have felt the same way I tried a Para2 at the Spyderco Factory outlet and remember thinking "I'm not sure what all the fuss is about", on the other hand when I picked up a Manix2 I remember thinking "This is a great knife!"

I have a Para2 now and it is a great lightweight but strong knife. However, I do prefer the Manix2 and prefer the Manix2 XL to the Military. I think a Manix2 with full flat grind and the skeletonized liners found in all the sprint runs is about perfect for a 3-3.5" folder.

Also I think people are confused about opening and closing the Manix2, it is one of the easiest knives to manipulate one handed.

Only had it for a few weeks, but it's working well for me. I'm fairly new to Spydie-world, carried a Kershaw Blur for a year or so, had an Avalanche before that. Gotta say, the pm2 is the first knife I've had to make me stop missing that Avalanche. Cuts great, just right grip, easy open and close. The tip looks a bit fragile, but I carry a little pry tool on my keys so I'm not tempted to bugger up my cutting tool, done that for years.

The lock felt kinda weird at first, but it was easy enough to get used to, and you don't ever have to put your tender fingers in the the way of that VERY sharp blade to close it with one hand; yes, the Avalanche got me that way.

I'd say a tool design that appeals to 3 out of 4 users is doing pretty good, and I suspect that figure is pretty reasonable. The folks in Golden can't seem to make enough to keep the pipeline filled, and I'm sure it's not for lack of trying.

There's my nickels worth!(Inflation)

PS: did I mention it cuts great?

Handled my ParaMilitary 2 knives several times and it has yet to appeal to me that I would even carry one! For a 3.5" blade I definitely prefer Southard, Gayle Bradley and Caly 3.5. GB is closest in overall size to PM2 although heavier but it's no contest for me.

I hate the Para2 so much that I have 7 of them and got another XL on the way.! Hate is a nasty thing.!** lol
As long as it has Spyderco on the Knife somewhere or that I know it is one -- then I love that Knife ~~ enough said.**

I wanted a PM2 for awhile, I got a Camo/Satin and a Black/Satin, and they just don't do it for me. I mean they are great knives, well built and have nice ergos. But they bore me. I like my Military better and for the size, the Manix 2.

I couldn't agree more. I have a few of the collectable and super steel sprint versions of the PM2, but I don't really love the pattern. Personally I like the Para 1 better.

I have yet to own a spydie, but the PM does make me go "meh".

I've been wanting a Vallotton sub hilt folder forever and the new Roc looks awesome. Every good knife has a buyer, and everybody wants a good knife. What's good is subjective. If you don't like the PM, don't buy one.

No, most people(other than mall ninja's that buy cheap knives) don't gravitate towards anything that says military/tactical.
Many yes, but not most. Just as many people gravitate away from anything that says military/tactical. I, and most of the people I know try to avoid marketing like that.
The Military and Para 2 are so good that I didn't let the name keep me awhe bl

Going to have to strongly disagree with you dude, is what it is.

When I got my first Para 2 I thought, well, yeh, it's ok. But i didn't really get what the hype was about.
But after carrying and using it (amongst others) over the past 18 months or so I have now very much 'got it' and wouldn't part with it, it's my most EDC'd folder. Took a little bit of fiddling and tuning and wearing in and getting used to the awesome compression lock (I'm a righty) but it is so worth it.

Spend some time with it, I believe it will reward you.

Thing is, I did spend time with it. But it is all about personal preference, nothing more.

I guess I just don't get the hype.
My very first spydie was a pm2, and when I got it I LOVED it, so much I orded another 2. Then time passed, I gained other spyderco blades and now I'm like meh... I gave one away and only have a s35vn and digi left. I like the manix line a lot better as well.

I really love the knife, but I wish the blade was thinner, maybe 2.5mm or 3mm instead of 3.5mm.

I'm in the camp of buying at least 8 of them including a couple sprints and then trading/selling them. One of the reasons is that they are great trade bait and the other reason is I don't know. There is nothing wrong with it and many things right. I guess if I am forced to gripe I'll say they are serious pocket shredders, sometimes a little tough on the hand when reaching in the pocket and while the lock is superb engineering, it is not the fastest in the west to manipulate. There again, none of these gripes are big deals and you can't argue their popularity & sales. I find the N5 fills the P2 void very well. :)

I actually hope this thread picks up steam. More for me, hopefully this makes the next PM2 releases more attainable. Haha yeah right. Call it hype or whatever you want but enough people like them That they go for as high as $800 and even the Chinese are trying to cash on it with their clone.

All of my favorite knives have their "haters"
Examples:
Stretch: "It's ugly"
710: "it's too big, don't like the recurve"
Sebenza: "boo hoo I just don't get it"
Millie: "it's a liner lock, the handle is too long"
PM2: "Meh, it sucks"
Endura/Delica: "Deep inside I know it's an awesome blade but it's too common so... Meh"

That's why theres literally an uncountable amount of knives to choose from...because everyone is different. I wouldn't be shocked if I thought that one of YOUR favorite knives were.... Meh :p

I don't think anyone here has said the PM2 sucks, just that it is not their favorite knife. The main point of my OP was that the amount of time that it took me to get one, that I was just underwhelmed.

Just don't get me on the Sebenza.
