Am I the only one that thinks the PM2 is.....Meh.

I started with the manix LW and was a little underwhelmed. I knew it was a good knife but it just didn't do it for me. I was reticent to buy a pm2 because everyone raved about them and I fancy myself a non-conformist. Well, I finally got one and I fell in love with the design. From there I have owned many more spydercos and the pm2 may not be my favorites anymore, but I still think very highly of the design. I prefer the military, and quite honestly, I really like a lot of the frn models. The endura and delica are just really excellent tools, and the salt line?? Pfft, don't get me started.

Another thing I have discovered over the last year of buying spydercos is that I tend to favor Sals designs over others. I have owned and handled quite a few high end spyderco collaborations, but none of them have earned the pocket time of the military, pm2, endura, delica, dragonfly, etc. Gayle Bradley folder and Southard? Meh, I'll take a delica and a Millie any day. Whatever is going through Sals head when he is designing a knife seems to result in tools that fit my hand and my needs perfectly.

I expected to be underwhelmed by the PM2; but I love it. I carry it over my Sebenza and some other cool folders. Now I kind of "get" the hype. It doesn't hurt that mine is one of those "perfect" ones out there.

I actually hope this thread picks up steam. More for me, hopefully this makes the next PM2 releases more attainable. Haha yeah right. Call it hype or whatever you want but enough people like them That they go for as high as $800 and even the Chinese are trying to cash on it with their clone.

All of my favorite knives have their "haters"
Examples:
Stretch: "It's ugly"
710: "it's too big, don't like the recurve"
Sebenza: "boo hoo I just don't get it"
Millie: "it's a liner lock, the handle is too long"
PM2: "Meh, it sucks"
Endura/Delica: "Deep inside I know it's an awesome blade but it's too common so... Meh"

That's why theres literally an uncountable amount of knives to choose from...because everyone is different. I wouldn't be shocked if I thought that one of YOUR favorite knives were.... Meh :p
These are most of my favorites also, except the Stretch... I don't own one.

No one whom posts in the Spyderco forum are haters. The selection is HUGE and just because folks may not like the same models as you certainly doesn't make them haters. My Spyderco to other brand purchases over the last 10 years must be 75% and that includes at least 8 PMs. I'm delighted that I branched out a bit. :)

It's Meh. Its handle is too small for my hand, plus the compression lock bites my hand when it engages unless i am very very careful.

I owned one for a while. I never needed that much folder, and ended up using a fixed blade for tasks that size. My mule/temp2 take care of all operations my pm2 would have. I did a lock study on it, and that was useful. The compression lock is smart.

I was lucky enough to be able to get 4 of them during the shortage. As I got more knives, I found that there was better options for me. I sold 2 of them to a good friend of mine that did not own any spydies prior to me selling it to him. He loves them. I also got rid of the other 2. Its weird though because as long as I have my other Spydies I have no interest in a PM2, but if I only could own 1 knife, the PM2 might be it.

This thread inspired me.

Begs the question is g10 recyclable with everything else? Rev that'd put you at like 30+ para2s....

Yes I put "hater" on quotes to put it in a much lighter context. I meant someone that doesn't care for a particular model and have (valid for them) negative thoughts on them. ;)

I'm not crazy about the Military, Paramilitary or the PM 2. I can't find much love for the compression lock. I'm pretty meh about Spyderco's most tried and true models: Delica, Endura, Millie, etc. Don't get me wrong, these knives are all work horses and are some of the finest production cutlery in the world. Aesthetically, they bore me a little bit. But that doesn't mean they don't get used. Had I been collecting Spydies ten years ago, I'm sure my opinion would differ quite a bit. As a recent collector I'm loving the Szabo, Starmate, Domino, Southard, Zulu, Techno, etc. As time goes on, I'm sure a configuration of the PM2 will come into my life :D

I have a PM2 and while its a great blade, for me its too short and the blade is too thick.Would love to have the same knife with longer, thinner blade and compression lock!

I wanted a PM2 for awhile, I got a Camo/Satin and a Black/Satin, and they just don't do it for me.

I guess I just don't get the hype.

Im with you.
But I like the Compression lock.
Which is why I have a Yojimbo2.

I bumping my thread to say that I have been EDC'ing the PM2....well until I got my SB Stretch, everyday. The PM2 is a great knife....maybe too good, which is why I grab other spydies for EDC first, like the Yojimbo, Manix 2 etc.

I like the PM2. It is very thin, light and versatile. I don't need a beast of a knife for EDC, but the PM2 can do anything I need a folder to do, and do it well. I keep it in my rotation but there are lots of great knives out, so what floats one's boat, doesn't do it for another. Either way, Spyderco makes a top tier product for sure. Very innovative designs. I like to think of it as art with a purpose.

I'm probably going to end up with a paramilitary 2, its just so classic, even if it does occupy the same niche as my ZT 0566 I could rotate them, and if I find I just love one so much more there is always the blade forums market.
