And the winner is.........................................

Thanks for the heads up John.

The blade shape is similar but I am going with it as it is not a copy of the Commander in any way that I can see. The grinds are different and the handle is way different. Poboy did a good job and I am happy to have him aboard.

Right now I have 24 designs ready to go and John Sage and Brian Intoccia are next from what I can see. They may not make this catalog but we are very close.

The Jarhead is a great looking design that looks nothing like the commander. I'm pretty sure Emerson didn't invent the recurve blade.

This is getting stupid and silly. The jarhead looks NOTHING like a commander. The blade shapes are slightly similar, but the commander was not the first folder to use that blade shape anyways.

Mike, I think you are doing a good job with the designs and the way you handled the earlier problems. it seems some people hate to see success when it's not happening to them. The Host and Parasite from Rob S look extremely cool. I will be owning one of those sets.

Another thing, I would eventually like to see some runs of some of the desings (especially the simonich) in a little bit better steel such as AUS8, ATS34 or 440C. They are still cheap enough to keep cost in a very reasonable range, but I feel are significantly better then 420HC.

The line is looking good, and I think you should keep everything in there you have right now. Great work.

I think "Parasite" conjures up unhappy experiences. :D How about "Symbiant" instead? The idea is that both blades complement each other, not that one takes away from the other.

I'm not able to access the new catalog pages through the link on the first page (when I hit them, they still have the old pages with the old knives), so could someone please let me know how to see the new designs that have been offered? I'm curious to see what 24 hours of brain-wracking can produce! What an exciting thread!

Hate to sound like a jerk... but as far as I know the original Kerambit (not a knife) was designed by Kelly S. Worden, while I think you could argue that a knife version is "original enough" so as to not really violate his patent (assuming he has one), but just the same, seems like thin ice to me.

kerambits are very old designs that have been around for many many years, long before Kelly Worden was born. Kid of like saying a knife is a rip off because it's a hunter. A kerambit is just a style, it's not really any one specific knife. He is using one of Liong's designs and giving him credit. It looks great to me. All this rip-off BS is getting very old. Give up already and find something better to do.

seems like poboy and i design scarily similar handles, oh well maybe he has one of those 5 fingered hands with opposable thumbs too

JR, I wasn't searching to criticize, I just wasn't sure about the whole Kerambit thing and felt obligated to point it out.

For whatever it's worth I didn't think the JarHead was a ripoff.

Please don't misinterpret me for a troll, all I did was see something I was unsure about and bring it to attention before a mistake could've been made. I assure you I had no malicious intentions.

Well if you weren't sure, then why post? Posts like that can cause headaches for a company, no matter what you claim your intentions were. It was beyond "not sure," you had absolutely no clue about kerambits or the orgins of them. I wasn't just directing my post at you, it was a general post. This rip-off non-sense is getting stupid. People want to appoint themselves to police the forums in search for trolls and rip-offs... It just gets really old and tiring. I feel sorry for people who have nothing better to do then that (and no, YC, that wasn't aimed at you specifically.)

Anyways, I'm going to enjoy my week at church camp away from the forums and computers in general. I can't wait to get out of town for a bit. Should be a fun week. After tonight, I won't be back until Saturday afternoon. You guys enjoy your week, I know I will enjoy mine... maybe... sponsering 70+ kids is a lot of work, but well worth it!

JR

For whatever it's worth, the only Kerambits i've seen were Kelly S. Worden versions, I figured I had a 50/50 chance, and even if I was wrong I'd score some education.

Also, I'd like to say I'm glad I was wrong.

That is all.

Well thats it for tonight folks. I have to tweak the designs tomorrow and Liong is in for a surprise as I did not have time to even let him know his design is in the catalog. Also I had to modify his design a good bit and I wanted it to look different from the one he did with someone else but keep the same lines. I think I succeeded but only his approval is what I seek :)

Anyway I thank each of you for all your help and this catalog will truly feature some of our very own designs, right here from BladeForums! So you see this place really has affected the knife industry.

Now some average Joes are getting there names recognized right along side the big boys. Just like I wanted it!

Mike,
I just browsed your re-vamped catalog and I gotta say what a great job you did in a real crunch time situation.
Your brain storm designs rock(!) and I'm sure I'll be getting one of everything especially the stuff on page 7 & 8.
You did a stand-up job of eliminating anything that can be misconstrued as a knock-off.:D

Mike,
I must congratulate you for fixing up the growing pains that may occur with a knife company based in China. I know for a fact (I'm Chinese) that companies in the mainland tend to ripoff and I'm not too surprise that may happen even under your command. But I think you should've submitted the in-house designs to us-as a community-to iron out any bugs. I think if you have the designs on for us to see before it sounds like so well finalized, there wouldn't be such a flaming contest occuring on the first couple pages of these posts. Anything that may be considered ripoffs would've been fixed a long time ago and this wouldn't occur. Besides, I think there's plenty of us here (knifemakers and extreme knifeknuts here in general) may help improve the designs, such as in ergonomics (as someone have mentioned).
Anyways. I'm very glad that you're trying very hard to fix everything in such a short notice, and I'll keep my eyes on what may become of this new company. I'm sure you'll make things right.

Mike, you've earned a lot of respect in my book by busting your ass to make sure this project wasn't a bunch of ripoffs. Congratulations! I will be picking up a couple of these pieces.

I'm really glad to see a kerambit, I was actually considering emailing you to suggest that you make one. Seems you read my mind.

So is it a folding Kerambit? It appears to be so. If so, I would suggest putting the clip on the opposite side, so that it sits ready to be drawn in reverse-grip: the way a kerambit is meant to be used. This is the way in which Emerson plans to set up their upcoming folding Kerambit, but I don't think anyone is going to bust your balls over copying clip position :D At least make the clip ambi on this model.

Thanks again for all your efforts on this! I'm psyched up.

Oh, and P.S. glad to see the hole has been changed on the Toucan.

And one more note: you really kick ass with Photoshop. I thought I was pretty good but your nonexistant-knives put my work to shame.
