And the winner is.........................................

Mr. Turber, was it Master Clay who designed those sheaths you have for your Balisong? (page 9)

I can pretty much promise I will be after a Squid!!! I LOVE that blade!

Although truthfully the only one on page 7 that I WON'T be after is a FlyBoy!

And them puppies are right SQUARE in my price range!!!

Fully agreed. Well, it ain't art, whatever it is.

This whole project is breaking new ground in "tactical knife" design.

This stuff will do a pretty good job of filling up the shelves at the Army/Navy surplus stores.

Sniperboy,

Yep that would be of Clay's design. I hope to have them injection molded. I hope to have Clay fill an active roll in sheath development. Right now we are just getting the ball rolling.

Also I don't plan on pleasing all the people all the time, just a few some of the time is OK in my book :D

But with all the designs we hope to have before I may be able to please 27.8% of the people 54.6% of the time.

Mr. Turber, thanks for the reply, I was not sure if it was Master Clay's design or not since he was not referenced :(, if anything I think his name will defintely help sales, and the man surely deserves the credit for his cool designs.

Congrats to Master Clay!!

I want to make it VERY clear that I want to make the very people who make this site what it is also get rewarded for their efforts in a neat new way. Whoever would have thought that the average joe would have their name on a knife? I knew that many of you had great knife designs but no way to make them a reality. Whether or not you have the money to just make one or the name to bring a design to a company. I am trying to accomplish what has never been done in our industry as I know that many of you have great designs, just no way to market them.

I have also received a bunch of emails asking me how I turned these line drawings into what looks like real knives. Well it ain't easy and it takes a lot of time and patience but in the end you get some really cool results. I use Adobe Photoshop, Bryce 3D, an HP 5470C scanner, a Kodak DC290 camera and Quark 5.0.

I will go back and make a thread showing each step when I have the time.

Here are the actual drawings that Liong Mah and Monty submitted. From these drawings I created the knives you see on pages 7 & 8. Each drawing was brought into Photoshop and from there I went to work created G-10, Pivots, Screws, Locking Liners, scales, logos etc....

I think you can see that I tried my best to keep the original design and lines intact.

How excitement!
:D
My sentiments exactly. I'm glad everything seems to be getting squared away. It is exciting to see that an average Joe's designs can get put into production. Mike, thanks for the opportunity. I just read throught the whole thread. I haven't been to the forums in a couple days.
John H., yeah, I guess it does look kinda like a Commander now that I look at it. But believe me, I definitely did not mean it to copy Ernie's design. I just like recurved blades. I tried very hard not to send in anything that was close to someone else's design.
Thanks to the rest of you for the support on that issue. I hate knock-offs just as much as the next guy. ZENGHOST, thanks for the congrats.

Poboy

Hell, I'm glad to see some folks getting thier time in the sun. There are some excellent designs there. Congratulations

I think Mike has hit on quit an idea there. Imagine all the untapped designs floating around that people had jotted down on scraps of paper and they just don't know how to get them made. Bravo Mike.

I've been told by several people (one I really respect) that I was way off base and that "the Jarhead looks nothing at all like a Commander!!!" and that I should "Get over it". Heck, I even made a Photoshop overlay showing that it did, but what's the use really?

Someone else gave this advise. "No one that would buy/carry a real Commander would be caught dead buying a $20 fleamarket copy. It's not even the same market." I thought about it . . . and he's right.

Too each thier own.

I just like recurved blades.

I'll tell ya, I love recurves too and if I designed a knife, you can bet your ass it'd be a recurve. :D So I know where your coming from.

Hell, I toyed with the idea of submitting a design for a recurved version of the AR folder to the Strider guys at one point.

Again, congratulations of the design. Local boy makes good. :D

Mike, you got mad Photoshop skills, I'll give ya that. :D

yes, he sure does have good skills.....whats the secret Mike..

where do we sign up for PS 101?

By the way....my design never made it?:(

Guess you had your fixed blade fix hey....

Mike, I've got a few straight and folding designs to send you once I can get them scanned. I'd put them in CAD 2000 but I'm not quite that proficient in CAD yet. Who cares about money when you could get your name on a knife? and then buy that knife.

John H: Yes, the shape of the recurve on the Jarhead does remind me of the Commander, but I think the handle woudl be different enough to distinguish it from the Commander.
Anyways, Mike, keep up the good job to keep everything back on track. I'm surprised that you could pull that off rather quickly.

The ones I like (Grunt and Jarrhead) are too big for me. 3.25" is pushing the limits of carry range for me. oh well.

I am happy to see such a good reception. I hope the knives live up to the expectations and I am sure you will all be very impressed with the quality -vs- price point when you see them.

As far as Photoshop I have been asked in several emails as well the "How in the hell did you make them look real" question so I will make a thread on the "How To" in a couple of weeks. Right now I have to get ready for a show and rebuild the Outdooredge web site.

John.

My quote was one you used in your last post on this subject. I appologise if I offended you, as I was not looking to do so. Just a lot of the finger pointing and troll hunting on these forums is really gettind me tired. I love these forums and have met lots of great people, and it is getting harder and harder for me to keep coming here to read the threads. I respect a lot of what you say, and always will. My post was primarily a case of being burnt out with all the junk cluttering the forums, as you really didn't do anything for me to lash out at. I hope you will accept my apology.

Anyways, taking that week off was very good for, although I didn't get much rest. It helps to see things in a clearer light.

PhilL's got a great thread going here in the Shop Talk forum. Rather than start from scratch, you probably have a lot of good advice to add on to the thread there. I really gotta learn all this newfangled techno stuff...:D

Have you thought about a Khukri, I've been wanting one but the only ones in my price range is either Frost Cutlery (puke) or the CAS Iberia one that I'm really unsure about. A good khukri in the 45-50 dollar range in a good sheath would be a hot seller. Just make sure the handle aint made of rubber cause the one I tried gave me a couple of blisters after not much chopping.

Do the original 'knock-off' images still exist? I'd just like to see what the fuss was all about.
