Andrew Clifford Knives

My friend you are dealing with a deranged individual . When I got into knife collecting I met a maker who was very similar to him . These guys enjoy getting your hopes up so they can make your day suck as much as theirs . I don't know why they all have the same stories too . Its pretty sad that a man would not only steal your hard earned money but they try to break your spirit too . Keep people like this out of your life . Try finding a knife you want already made from your favorite maker . I hope this all works out for you.

Thanks Mark!! Your words are very uplifting and encouraging to me!!

Hello,

yesterday i got text messages from andrew clifford and finished pics of my knife. It is a beautiful knife and he complimented my design.

I also finally did indeed receive a tracking number along with pics of the box being shipped! He said it was being shipped overnight delivery today!

I will wait and see if it is indeed shipped. When i receive the knife and sheath, i will come here and update that and will prob post pics of my new knife...stay tuned!!!

My knife from andrew clifford has now been shipped out and is on its way to me! It will arrive tomorrow!

I want to thank everyone here at bladeforums that showed me extreme support and that allowed me to use it as a venting sounding board!

I also want to encourage everyone...if you find yourself being trampled on by life or by people that fill you with bs and stories, and then try to make you feel like you are the guilty person...don't you dare just lay down and take that!!

Stand up for yourself...your rights...and fight back!! Get back that which you are owed or which you paid for!! Don't just chalk it up as a loss!! You fight!!!!!! Thanks again everyone!!!

FROM POST OF 07/29/06: "After 3 years of waiting for a knifemaker to make my knife, he cancels the build and refunds my money."

So after this terrible "customer service" [NOT CLOSE TO ACCEPTABLE !] he refined your money?[/QUOTE

YES HE DID. BUT THIS ISN'T ABOUT THAT 3 YEARS!! THIS IS ABOUT THE CURRENT ISSUE!! TRUST ME, I DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH HIM EITHER!! BUT HE WAS HONORABLE ENOUGH TO REFUND MY MONEY!!

AGAIN THOUGH, I'M NO FAN OF HIS EITHER...AT ALL. BUT THAT IS A CLOSED CHAPTER AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED, AND WILL NOT BE DISCUSSED FURTHER.

I'M HERE STRICTLY TO RIGHT SOME WRONGS AND WARN OTHERS ABOUT THE ISSUE AT HAND!! IT SEEMS TO ME THAT YOU'D BE MORE CONCERNED ABOUT A KNIFEMAKER'S CONTINUOUS LIES AND FAKE PROMISES...THAN YOU WOULD ABOUT ONE WHO ACTUALLY REFUNDED MONEY IN FULL!!

Just trying to understand the facts.

Jackal,

You Got It Bro!! Someone asked me yesterday if this knife was worth waiting for from Andrew Clifford. And I did finally get pics of it from Him but I am waiting until I have the knife, take my own pics, and post them.

And all in all I'd say Yes, it was worth the wait. Like I said, Andrew Clifford does make great knives. He is very skilled. And I do know that knifemakers are human beings like customers, and I know that things do arise in their lives that they might have to put off work and deal with.

But when you request money upfront, which I've now learned that no respectable knifemaker does, and it is a big No No with most...But if a knifemaker does take upfront money...

From that moment that a knifemaker has a customer's money, then that makes very Little room for sudden atrocities one right after another...and absolutely No Room for promise after promise that your knife is done and will be shipped the next day, and then not shipped, no contact for days, and then shipped 20 days later!

I might be wrong but I just don't think there's Any room for multiple excuses from any knife maker who already has a customer's money!

I do hope and pray that Andy gets on track with Good Customer Service...Because if he can do that, and along with his awesome knife and sheath making skills, then that would help him become one of the Greats!!

My posts here was not to condemn Andrew Clifford or cause him any ruin. Only a person can ruin their own selves and business!

But my posts were simply as stated in the beginning...Which was to vent my frustrations, seek advice from good people of BF, and right some of my own wrongs and encourage Everyone to Never Give Upfront Money For A Knife To Be Made...Not just to Andrew Clifford...But to Any knifemaker who demands it!

And I will close with this: A very very dear friend...no names mentioned, pointed out to me a statement made by someone that is very experienced in the knife world...

And that saying is this: THE HARDEST KNIFE FOR A KNIFEMAKER TO MAKE AND FINISH...IS ONE THAT IS DONE ALREADY PAID FOR!! Y'ALL TAKE CARE NOW!

You might also want to double check how well your ACK edge holds up... The knives look very well-made, but it could be a hit and miss affair... My knife below had trouble even before it was thinned... Then after thinning the edge from 0.040" to 0.020", and a lot of further edge metal removed by hand-sharpening (no power tool on the edge), to try to get out of a "bad" power-heated layer (since I already knew it was in trouble straight from the box), this, after all these efforts, is how around ten chops on Maple looked like:

An identical edge thinness/angle Randall after 100s of hits in the very same wood, the same day:

Note that another knife, a pre-dot Lile Sly II, needed the exact same amount of thinning (0.040" to 0.020"), from the same professional sharpener (who is always very mindful of keeping temperature low with slow grinding and water-cooled belts), and the Lile came back with an indestructible edge on the very same wood.

I was not able to post these photos before, which is why I post them here. Your knife will probably be fine, but test it out just in case... At least one of his customers chopped through a big tree with no complaints, so there you go...

You are ABSOLUTELY in right.. Absolutely. There is no excuse for this behavior. Especially if you've already got the money! Why invent excuses on excuses? But above all, I can't believe that a great maker like him destroy his reputation, for what? for $400?? For a stupid knife?? I can't believe that.. I understand that it is difficult to work after having already the money, like you said, but...... 3 years???!!! No, it is not acceptable. Anyway, I can't wait to see this knife! We waiting for the pics brother!

thedemonbeast - after all the dramas that you described with this knife maker, it is my sincere hope that you'll receive the knife as you expected.

Jackal,

Clarifying here...the 3 year wait was by a diff knife maker...not Andrew Clifford. The guy did refund my money but still...the knife was My Design and I felt absolutely Betrayed!

Andy and I were friends and maybe we can work part this and continue that friendship. That too is up to him.

He took on making my knife for me because he Was/ hopefully still will be a friend because he understand how heartbroken I felt. This was my very first design...And I'd wanted Andy to make it in the beginning but said he didn't have the time. So I asked the other maker. That is who took 3 years then cancelled...not Andy!

But that 3 year ordeal was done and over the min I got refunded. I will not be doing business with him ever! But he was honorable enough to refund my money!

Andy agreed to make the knife but the deadlines kept being missed...And on his behalf he was going through a very hard family crisis that I won't mention here.

My frustration is not at the added length it took Andy to make the knife. The only reason I came here and vented was the whole thing where he requested the final paynent, promised over and over that the knife was being shipped this day, then that day, and then no contact at all...And it ending up taking 20 days for him to Finally ship it!!

I just felt like I was being betrayed and screwed over somewhat All Over Again!

But I now have my knife from Andy. It was just delivered!! Still, I Apologize For Nothing That I Posted About This Issue. As Promised, I came here to say I got the knife Finally....And now the long long wait for my knife design and build is Finally Over!!

I will be taking and posting pics soon. Now, to the person that is negatively speaking about Andy''s edges, and giving full credit where it's due to Andy...Your post about that does not belong here bro! I own 5 of Andy's knives and have used them Profuciously! And I've not had one single issue with the edges on them!

Maybe your issue is Operator Error??!! Please don't come here and turn my posts into your own fiasco!! That will not work buddy!!!!!!

Thomas,

Sorry man...my bad!! I should've been a little more nice to you in my reply. I apologize to you humbly. I was just feeling very frustrated and betrayed at the time and my defenses were wayyyy up there! Please Forgive Me For Any Rudeness Towards You!!

Got it. No problem. We all get upset at times. Few OPs come here like still water.

Here is my Brand New Handmade hollow handle survival knife!! It is called the BW-M6 because it was Designed by me and made by Andrew Clifford!!

Aaah ok ok, now I understand better.. And WOOOWWW!! This is a fantastic knife!! Congratulations.. Very beautiful... 10" blade? Beautiful serration, but I personally prefer the Parrish-style serration.. Anyway, very well, this problem is solved for the better..

The serrations have no function. They are strictly a styling effect. On the plus side, they do soften batoning shock and don't get in the way.

Thanks Jackal!! Like I said, Andrew Clifford does make great knives, and his sheaths are unbeatable. It's just the upfront money and the 20 days of not shipping it after I paid the final payment, and promise after promise of shipping the knife, that got me frustrated!!

We see that he makes great knives!! Congratulations, really.. The wait is worth it.. But there is one last question.....
After this experience, you still buy other knives from him? Just my curiosity..

Yes!! I would definitely buy from Andy again. But from here on out...NO UPFRONT MONEY...PERIOD! Not just with Andy but with any knifemaker! No UPFRONT MONEY AND KNIFE WILL NOT BE PAID FOR UNLESS AND UNTIL I the knife is finished and pics of that are sent.. THAT'S THE ONLY WAY THOUGH!!

That is the way I am doing it from here on out!! If that is too crude for a knifemaker then fine! I don't need his knife that bad then!! 'NUFF SAID!!
