Sad news!

Not sure if any of you have heard, but the old Cattaraugus factory building in Little Valley burned down last Friday. :(

Thank you for letting us know ! Very sad to see it go.:eek::eek::eek:

From the article, it appears it was burning down as some of us were arriving at the Rendezvous Friday morning. :(

R.I.P. Catt factory. :(

Decided to post this here to keep the thread alive. I popped into an estate sale on my lunch break and found this one in a shoebox full of junk. It was really pretty grimy and I didn't have a loupe with me so wasn't sure what it was. But, it seemed well made and for $3, well, couldn't go wrong. After a soak, some work with a toothbrush, some oil in the joints, I got it opened up and WOW, discovered I had snagged a very nice Cattaraugus Cigar Whittler (32579). It has plenty of steel left and excellent walk and talk. Take a look.

Nice find!

I have an old Cattaraugus 22659 on the way.

I like the combination of blades on that AG Russell peanut.

I'm not sure if it's enough for membership to the "cult of the peanut" but I have this old Cattaraugus on the way. I like the long pull and the Roger's "Indian Trail" jigged bone that Catt used on the knives.

I love the contrast in jigging from the mark to the pile side. Beauty!

Here's an old Catt Congress Whittler with nice jigged bone covers. Very stout little whittler that's built like a tank with bone that is reminiscent of old Case green-bone. It's an interesting design with longer bolsters and the sheepsfoot main has a really nice swedge. Lots of character and steel packed in between those covers!!!

Very nice Congress Nick ! Thank you for adding it to the Catt thread !:)

Nice whittler!! Here is my latest Catt, it makes 6 that I now have without Little Valley NY on the tangs. This one is marked CATTARAUGUS in an arch over CUTLERY Co. I have 3 marked this way and 3 that are marked CATTARAUGUS in an arch over CUT Co. Derek and I believe they are some of the oldest ones that JBF had made but not sure where they were made.

I wondered who beat me out on flea-bay ! Glad to see it was you Mike!
I figured it had to be plenty old when I saw the button hook.
