Antique Cattaraugus Knives and Company History

I will have to say that this thread is the heart of what the Traditional forum is all about. Beautiful older knives, the stories, personalities, traditions and history of their use and manufacture, and an appreciation of an era almost gone.

We sometimes get caught up too much in the 'buy the next new thing' part of the hobby, so it is good to take some time to reflect and remember.

Thanks for taking the time to post all of this for us.

Well said jc57 and I am thankful for all the friends I have made on this forum who live all over the world.

Hello guys, I just saw this thread. Nice photos of the Catts.

Very nice to see that folks appreciate the old articles and photos I post on the JBF Champlin web page.

Happy Turkey day!

Derek

Happy Turkey day to you Derek. I will have to check out your photos on the JBF web page, I did not know about it. Thanks.

Derek, great job, sir! They are very comprehensive. I look forward to more of the new JBFC knives, too, especially with those salvaged rosewood covers!

Primble, might be nice to put in a citation to Derek's page.

It looks like you have taken care of that Phillll. :)

I did not link to his site since he is selling knives there, not a paid dealer here, and I was not sure that I should do that. ;)

Hello Primble, Philllll and Markesharp,

Thanks for the nod. No worries as far as copyrights go. The old news paper article certainly did not originate with me
so I have no claim to it. It is posted to be enjoyed and shared. I'm actually glad someone took the time to read it, there's a ton of
interesting information in those paragraphs.

Also, I'm a little unclear about what can be posted within the various pages on this forum, so if mentioning my web page breaks any rules, I certainly want to avoid that.

Cheers!

derek

I don't have any Catts and I'm allergic to Cats, but I'm enjoying this thread!

I'm really surprised Sarah hasn't shown up yet in this thread. If I know her, she will have pictures of Catts ON Cats.

Maybe you have to mention her three times before she is summoned? Pertinux. Pertinux! PERTINUX!

The Catts of your house are well fed and in fine fettle Primble! Great bloodlines on show but I particularly like that Swell-Centre/Balloon Pen, he really climbs my tree:D:D

Thanks, Will

Maybe she had a lot to do on Thanksgiving.

I love the worm-grooved bone on this Catt. The blades are like new with light pepper spots and no pitting. :)

Oh and Primble, it will be on it's way to Kentucky today. I might as well send it now and be done with it. :D

I was going to say that you neglected to say how beautiful the bone color is and how well bonded you are/were to that knife. What is the closed length of that knife, I wonder? I suppose time will tell if you are jerking my chain on Black Friday. You just sent me a knife Mark - you will run out, my friend !!! :D:D

It is 3 5/8" closed. I am not jerking your chain Primble, it was decided when you started this thread Wednesday. The bone color is beautiful and I can't wait to see YOUR pictures of it. ;):D

A beauty of a Cat

That is a fantastic old Catt Barlow Gevo and a very beautiful furry Cat. The handle color on the Barlow is a wonderful shade and the bolster wear is super too. Many of the Catt Barlows which I have seen do not have the Cattaraugus name on the bolster and I think that adds a lot to yours. Thank you so much for posting both Cat(t)s.:thumbup::D

I am kinda bonded to a certain Utica EO that you have.;):D

Ohh no - bonded to my only Utica !!??:eek::D

Mark and Primble

Thank you so much for the compliments on my Cat(s)! :D

Just a fine thread, Primble. Just wanted to add a little something. Great job and I hope this thread grows and grows:thumbup:;):D

Mark, that old Cat Jack is quite lovely!
