Took me awhile, but I finally made it through this thread. Glad I did. :)

The bone on that swell end is STUNNING! WOW!!View attachment 494933

Great thread Primble! I've finally had time to go through the whole thing!

I'm looking forward to seeing the display case!!

This thread is simply an amazing display of find old cutlery - wow! OH

Wow, galvanic1882 !!
That is so cool. Looks like the little saw blade could be changed out?

That is a first, never seen a slipjoint with a hacksaw blade. Very cool.

Yes the saw baled can be changed out. Here are 2 more. The bone handled jack has a faint fancy etch.

Thank you for the comments everyone. Wonderful old Catts from Galvanic1882. I have never seen a hack-saw bladed folder either. The question is - where would you ever find the replacement blade for it??:D

It appears that three of the Catt pictures on the preceding page were moved or deleted - accidently I hope? I would like to see them come back into the thread. ;):)

Now I know who to blame for old Catt shortages - like Mark blamed me for the magnet shortages. ;):D

Primble my friend.....how are you coming along on your Catt display cabinet? We are anxiously awaiting to see the finished product.

I can send you magnets if you need more. :)

I've been on a choil kick lately. These old knives have a lot of belly in the blades that really makes for a keen edge and enough steel to last a lifetime. That pearl cattle knife is just unbelievable.

Mark - You had me pegged - I have been trying to get my Christmas shopping done, while also working on the Cattaraugus wall display case. Other unfortunate things have kept me busy this week, the kitchen faucet sprung a leak and I had some water clean up and then I was boiling vinegar and my Pyrex measuring cup shattered and I had a terrible mess in my kitchen. What does one do when boiling vinegar is running over a red hot stove burner and onto your kitchen cabinets? I had used that same cup for vinegar no telling how many times!:eek: Lesson learned.

I did have a bone Catttaraugus Stockman arrive and it is 3 inches closed.

Primble I Love the Whitler but that Stockman is really calling to me. You do have a fine collection of Catts started. I love seeing it grow and evolve. I really appreciate the way you take the time to share them with such stunning images.

Looking forward to the cabinet Primble. This has been a great thread and I look forward to more post.

Another old Catt Whittler on the way to me:

Got me in a second on this. Very nice catch

Nice acquisitions Primble. Sorry to hear about the vinegar mess, I would stick to steel pans. I have had Pyrex shatter in the oven while cooking dinner. :barf:
I hope you got me a nice Christmas present ole buddy ole pal :D

I finished the wall display cabinet. The finished size is 17" by 12" and should hold 16-18 knives with blades opened. I changed my mind and decided to use Poplar for the frame and painted it a flat black, distressed it, cherry stained the distressing, then a low lustre clear finish. I did not want the frame color to distract from the knives.

I took my table saw and cut a 3/16th's inch deep channel inside the frame, to hold the steel background in place and to make the whole job appear neater. The color of the background is very similar to the Primble and Boker backgrounds that I previously made. I thought the Cattaraugus graphics turned out nice and I was pleased with the result.

Now, all I need is more Catts and more magnets - to be continued in 2015. ;):D

That look great Primble! Is there a glass or Lexan cover on the front? Or will there be? Your Cat's might nab them Catt's :D

I could have added another groove for glass Mark, but, my previous adventures proved to me that I like them mounted on the board best with no glass. I actually leave the glass out of the Boker cabinet most of the time. This Catt display is hung on the wall like a picture and I like being able to just pull a knife off the board. The glass reflects and the knives show up better and are more three dimensional in appearance with no glass. The down side is a little feather dusting every so often. :)

Really liking that backdrop. It makes all those beautiful Catts stand out. The symmetry of the knives and their shields really work as well for me.
