What a great thread, sorry I didn't see it sooner. I have some pix of a NYK Matteawan. The knife belongs to a friend. It's a swell center pen. If I remember correctly it is large around 3 5/8 closed.

That is a super sweet swell center and very old. Never seen this earliest of NYK stamps. Thanks for sharing.

Charles

Left out one pic. Note the file is stamped J.Ward & Co. Bernard's Opinion on this is that possibly in the early days NYK acquired the files from Ward.

 And now I know the difference between a Fuller and a Harrison punch. Good stuff Charlie! :D

Thanks Charlie and I agree Mark - even an old feller can pick up on a lot, hangin' around this porch. ;):D

Thank You Charlie!! I got a PM from Charlie the other day asking for my address. He said he had something for my NYKC Display. The package arrived today, and I couldn't believe my eyes! They were the two awesome old NYKC Harness Jacks that he had posted the other day on this thread.
Charlie, you don't know how much I appreciate these knives and your generosity! I am truly humbled.

I hope to finish the display cabinet this weekend and post photos.

Jimminee Crickets Marko - those are two stunning knives!:eek::thumbup::thumbup::D

There are probably more than a few young knife collectors that do not yet understand what an extreme sacrifice it is for an old time knife accumulator to surrender knives like these, to anyone !!

If I had wanted to send you those knives, they would have probably stuck to my fingers like super glue !! :D

I have said it before and many may remember - well - it will suffice for me to say it WAY-NORTH - get it !!??:confused::confused::D

That Matteawan NYK is a grand knife, Barry.
Seldom seen!!

Good Lord, that Matteawan is awesome. The whole knife is a treat but that main blade shape is very captivating. Love to see something like that stuck in an Eureka pattern. Looks like it has a little Japanese influence?

A couple well used, but, still useful old New York Knife company pieces:

I cut the broken pen blade on the Barlow, diagonally across the tang, then closed it and it disappeared into the liners, with spring properly positioned.

I straightened the cutting edge and made the old well used spear into a long pen blade, sharpened up like a razor:

P.S. - I guess I could read your book, since we are usually looking for similar knives. :D
