Any love for Trappers?

I'd like to mention that I only post real Cripple Creek knives and not the knock-offs that you see for sale on the web or elsewhere.

Thanks, it's a cool little fella. Good stag and a Turkish Clip. Everyones monitor sees images a bit different than another so I try to make them viewable in the middle range.

I've heard this trapper pattern and blade configuration being referred to as a Dixie Switch. It makes no sense to me at all but if anyone
should know why I would gratefully appreciate knowing why. Notice the dip in the spey blade.

No response of the Dixie Switch question? Jeepers. Here's another with an almost barlow type front bolster and
hollow ground blades.

I saw Jim Parker advertizing some of his trappers as "dixie switch" but I don't have any idea of the origin or history of the term. Nor how to tell a regular trapper from a "dixie switch".

I can say that whatever it is, the Winchester up there is just 'smokin'. - Ed

Greg, I've seen those trappers that Parker called "Dixie Switch" but I think I've seen more toothpicks referred to by that name.

Here's a thread you may find of interest.

Thanks Mr. Blues.
I read that and a lot of other threads a while back with no real answer. Like so many things these days,
what was commonly known in the past has been diluted, spun around and turned into a marketing ploy.
I'll ask Mr. Voyles about it next time I see him and bring the info here. If anyone would know, it would be Bruce.
A two blade trapper just doesn't fit into "Dixie Switch".

Karen just bought me one and I'm hoping you guys can tell me about it.
I believe the scales are bone but all I can see are the pics she has sent me.
I have no idea if it is old or new, USA or import. What say you?

Pro,
just look at it and you tell us. If it was gifted to you what difference does it make?
Mr. Blues,
A knife called a Dixie Switch with a horse pick ? Somebody needs a good slap.

That's what I thought. She called and said she found a bone handled Winchester, should she buy it. I said of course. What I got will be a good fishing/hunting knife but not a collector. Ok with me.

The best thing about is this, Pro, she bought it for you and with you in mind.
Better than gold.

That is the great thing. She is always looking for things that she thinks will make me happy. Just knowing that means the world to me.

Here is my newest GEC Trapper (at least until my #73 Goldenrod Micarta "Scout" comes in tomorrow). Its got nice dark green jigged bone scales that are slightly lighter at the corners, not as much as my furtaker. Its clip blade has a different profile than both the other #48s as well as the #53. I feel the narrower clip of the other trappers would probably work better for me but I haven't had any problems cutting with this one yet. The main blade is slightly longer than the #53, similar to the #48 at about 3 1/8". The pull is about the same as other #48s, a 5. The pen is about 2 3/16" long and a mild 4. The pen is unnoticeable when using the clip but you definitely know the clip is there when using the pen. Again, I'd have preferred the thinner clip of the other #48s.
