Any recommendations for a good budget combat knife?

Ontario 498? around 1/2 your $100 budget.
Actually, for around $80 or so, plus shipping, you coukd get the Ontario 498 Marine Combat Knife (same as the Ka-Bar, but tbe Ontario is Mil Spec) AND an Ontario 499 Jet Pilot Survival knife (also Mil Spec)

My bad, I had heard from a few people and read on a few sites that daggers were illegal here. I'll have to look that up later. As for where in Canada, I'm from Ontario.

Some great spots out in Ontario for gear. Unfortunately not sure of ones that are site sponsors; it's a rule on here that non-supporting vendors aren't included in topics like this in most cases.

My favorite knife in the niche you're describing is the Winkler II Belt Knife but it's unfortunately about 2x what you want to spend. I would look at DPX and Esse. The make fixed combat knives that can be all around users right at your price range.

DPX and ESEE are good options too if you want something that isn't too military-looking. If you're checking those out, look into the Becker series as well.

i would recommend an ESEE 6. Using 1095 steel which has great has great wear resistance and good edge retention. The only drawback is it can rust fairy easily but that problem is mostly solved with the coating on the blade.

^ Well this looks almost too good to be true! It would be pretty cool, if you two could possibly work something out!

Of course it would break a whole slew of forum rules, but you know that already, of course.

Well, thanks for all the replies and offers. I think I'll probably go with a Cold Steel GI Tanto, since I just found out a store that's like 3 minutes away sells them, plus I don't need a knife that's ultra high quality, since I don't see myself ever needing to actually use a knife in combat.

So many companies make these combat/utility type knives. Other things to consider are blade length, weight, steel, and sheath. Knifecenter and BladeHQ have good search functions where you can narrow by many different perimeters such as combat knife. Looks through those to get some ideas and examples. I think the Kabar is a good choice as it sounds exactly like what you want.

USMC Ka-bar, I carried one in the Corps because they were inexpensive, they worked for digging, chopping, hammering, and stabbing, plus they were easy to replace at the PX.

My first instinct was just to follow the crowd and say Ka-bar, because, well, just because. Then I remembered looking at the Anza site the other day. I think the knife you want is the Pig Slayer. Heck, I have no use whatever for a "combat" knife. I think they are silly. But I want a Pig Slayer. It's too awesome.

SOG and MTech offer very good budget fighting knives. Check out the Mtech MT line: MT575, MT1228, MT113. Budget versions of Kabar.

Priced so take them on a run first, then move on to something more quality/expensive like Kabar.

Unless you're using it for some major work, probably wouldn't notice the difference.

I agree with the Ontario 499 Jet Pilot Survival knife. It has the combat history and the utility and the cool factor all in one. Costs around $40 shipped.

Can't go wrong with any of the suggestions here. The one I have in preparation for the day that will never come is the Buck Nighthawk short. Good looking, great ergos, and a third of your budget. They make a longer version as well. Sheath is noisy, but it can be remedied. A Gerber prodigy or LMF would work too.

Check out tops knives website they specialize in what your looking for.As long as you can get past the sensationalized naming of their knives.
I own a few and I can tell you they're very well made built for abuse so to speak, often overlooked and underrated in my opinion.
