Any recommendations for a good budget combat knife?

Late to the party...-_-

Browning Arbitrator? It's stabby enough.

I would seriously consider the OSS, but the Cold Steel website says it's restricted in Canada. I'm not sure if that's outdated information or not.

You can get them in Canada (both single and double edge); some folks swear by sub-hilts. I'd look at the Boker offerings but they're $300ish. The CS one is $100 so maybe way under budget.

Then, maybe, you might want to get a knife built for outdoor recreation like camping. You can stab stuff with one of those too.

I've already got a Becker BK7. I'd only bring the second knife as a backup, although I don't really see the BK7 ever breaking on me, especially since I don't put it through anything it can't handle. The BK7 is also capable of being used for combat, although I'm looking for something more geared towards combat specifically.

Hmm, that's good to know. I'll definitely consider one of those, then. It seems like the right weight and length for my taste.

I don't think price equals quality to an extent. I think price more equals materials and craftsmanship. While a $60 KaBar may not have a fancy stainless or tool steel or ironwood scales, it's still a quality knife. 1095 is a great material for a hard use knife in the field. Tough and easy to maintain. Get a coated one or force a patina with some apple cider vinegar.

Utility isn't very important to me because I already own the knife you mentioned, which is a BK7. Great knife, like you said. I wouldn't mind some utility, but being designed with combat in mind is really what I'm looking for. I'm not too picky, though. If it is a knife that leans toward combat but can be used for utility, I'm also interested in that.

My point was that a "combat knife" is a different animal than a "fighting knife" even though both can overlap. They are not mutually exclusive terms, but they also don't mean the same thing.
A "combat knife" would be used for digging holes, survival/bushcrafting, opening wooden crates and all sorts of non-fightey type roles.

It sounds like you want more of a fighting knife.

So you are looking for a fighter/stabber to take with on camping trips?

If you just want something stabby looking...that's cool. Just say so, so we can help.

Fairbairn–Sykes fighting knife! It's as stabby as it gets, but useless for anything else. Or there's the CRKT Dragon, it's a bit smaller than the other offerings here, but quite practical.

Nice call! Mark III trench knife too...but I dunno if it is Canada-legal. Another knife designed just for "stabby."

Yeah, I do want something stabby, just for the sake of having it, really. Also, the main reason I'd ever bring it camping is because I mostly camp in an area that has a lot of bears, so it would be reassuring to have a stabby/fighter knife on top of some bear spray. It's not really logical, I know, but meh, why not actually use the knife for something? It would probably just collect dust otherwise. (I apologize if I've confused anyone as to what I actually want the knife for)

I'd pack bear spray and some hunter flares. And as a last ditch weapon against a bear I'd rather have a full-size axe than any sort of knife.

If you're already carrying a BK7 you dont need an SP6 or an OSS or any other knife.

Just sharpen a stick with your BK7 if you want to stab things.

I'd carry the SP6 over the Becker, but that's just me.

Well since it is a little more clear now.
