Any Ti framlock fans interested in the ESEE Folder coming Dec2010??

I'm keeping my eye on this, but nothing I'm gonna jump on yet. ESEE has been coming out with some great knives. Once it's in steady production, I'll probably pick it up.

Sweet looking blade and im really looking forward to it. I hope the regular production model ships before Christmas :thumbup:

how is this outsourcing?

Yeah, I have to admit that lionsteel does appear to do some amazing work. I certainly dont have anything against their quality or Italy itself.

Im just doing this whole "buy American only" thing, and I take more of an issue with outsourcing in general.
Thats not the only thing keeping me from buying this knife though.

I guess I'm weird that I like the bottle opener. The shape looks like it could have other uses in a survival situation AND it can still open my beer over the weekend. Really looking forward to this blade.

+1
i see the bottle opener as a pro rather than a con. any beer worth drinking shouldn't have a twist off cap anyway. :D and it doubles as a wave.
Also the jimping doesn't really bother me, although i have yet to feel, i trust esee enough that i doubt they would keep it on if was exceedingly uncomfortable.
as for the mr dpx logo/hest writing on the clip, that was the reason i went with the sterile limited edition.

and being from the UK this whole buy american thing does nothing for me, so it being from italy, by Lion Steel nonetheless, isn't a factor against the knife for me. I really doubt esee would go with a sub par knife manufacturer to make anything with their name, even if it is a collaboration with dPX.

way too much frills and gimmicks for my taste. I use my folders to cut, not cut wire, open beer, break car windows, etc etc etc etc....

im going to be waiting for the izula folder

I love the idea as much as anyone but that design needs some serious tweaking. As is the lock on that thing would be next to non functional.

The lock-bar needs to be in front of the pivot to work, not underneath. Of course moving the pivot back puts more leverage on the stop pin, so that would need to be beefed up.
My suggestion would be to double the studs as the blade stop (making sure to use a solid bar), and beef up the pivot to take the extra force from being so close to the stop pin.

Then make a 4" version and I'm in heaven.

Then add in that its made in Italy (though it looks very well made), but thats still a negative for me.

Plenty of quality knives are made in Italy and the rest of Europe for that matter!
And it's not for the cheap labor that they are manufactured there, so if your only concern is that it's made abroad, don't you think you might be shortchanging yourself there a little?
But then again, I'll be the first to admit I don't know anything about global economics, and you might actually be saving your country from complete bankruptcy by way of the butterfly effect!:D

Bottle opener = stress riser for me. Liked the idea of D2 and ti framelock but the notch totally does not do it for me. Also imagine the unwanted attention if ya whip it out to open beers in the presence of sheeple!

Why yes, I am excited for this knife. Either the sterile or production version would make me stoked. Hope they're dropped soon so i can get my hands on one!

I'm getting so very tired of comments that an otherwise excellently made knife shouldn't be bought because it's not made in your backyard.
My Lion Steel SR-1 is as at least as well made as anything by anyone. I can't say that my small Sebenza is better made. In fact the one piece handle is more akin to custom knife excellence. People who wouldn't consider it because it's italian are missing out.
Considering my previous experiences with Lion Steel, this one will be excellent.

When it comes to the design of this folder, I can compare it to the fixed blade HEST which I have:
- The bottle opener notch isn't very beautiful, yet it can be useful from time to time - however the bottle opener of my simple SAK works better.
- The skull is indeed unfortunately more akin to teenage interests
- The prybar works well enough
- The wire cutter may also come in useful occasionally, but on the fixed HEST you have to watch out not to break off the end of the blade edge while wiggling the knife, as it's a rather fragile part of the blade - this is what the German Messer Magazin found out. I do hope that they looked at this issue.
- The blade itself is very sturdy and capable.

Comparison to a fixed blade is apples & oranges. Unless you have one to give an unbiased review then why bother? The OP was asking:

I'm not adverse to where a good knife is manufactured so plz don't keep bringing up these political things. I heard you the 1st time. :)

Hi, I wasn't comparing the total knife, I mainly wanted to point out my observation of and experience with the bottle opener notch and the wire cutter, which seem very similar to the one in the fixed blade variant.
In addition the general blade shape is similar, which gives an of general normal cutting capability (when not putting it to the same stress as you can with a fixed blade).
In my obvious haste, I shouldn't have mentioned the prybar because the folder doesn't have it.
And the dumb skull logo is the same :)

About my interest: I am on the waiting list, close to the cutoff number so it is well possible that I will be able to order it in the end. Still not 100% sure though, as there is another sturdy folder that interests me even more - I fondled it in a shop recently.

Yes, you're right, sorry, I felt provoked to react to some comments, which I rarely do.

I don't imagine it would be enough of a stress riser to be detrimental to the strength of the knife. I think if anything were to give, surely it would be the pivot before the blade?

That's my sentiment too . . .

I wasn't a big fan of the bottle opener at first, but it kind of grew on me and I really like it now. I can't wait till December to get a hold of one. I just hope the aren't far off from the timeline when they are available. I just checked the dpx website and its 10 days...im excited.

Dagon,

Like the OP's knife in question, the Boker Titan Defender Lightweight is a Ti/G10 framelock folding knife with a glass breaker tip - and that's about all they have in common. My local shop has a Titan Worker in stock - I like the looks/blade material of the Defender Lightweight better - and one is likely in my future. It'll join quite a few other German made Bokers - and a few PRC made Bokers, as well - in my collection, which contains many Puma's and SAKs as well. I have an eclectic mix of knives, country of origin wise, but will admit to a bias for 'Made in USA' examples, but then, it's my game - my rules.

I wanted the SR-1 when it was offered - considered it carefully - Lionsteel makes a quality product, if the reviews are to be accepted on face value. I elected to buy a Wilson Combat/CRK 'StarTac' Umnumzaan instead - and I am well pleased with that decision. I do know three things about the new offering: 1. If it resembles the prototype, I am not interested - too many features I don't want or like. 2. If it is like the SR-1, it will be a work of art in construction. 3. It will be pricey. It isn't for me.
