Any Winkler fans?

Well got my order in and paid for (they don't charge til ready to ship but i asked if I could just pay now and let me) and everything confirmed. Little disappointed they don't let you choose the color sheath, but whatever. Ended up going with just a regular maple handle belt knife. So now I wait...12-16 weeks I guess lol...

I think they match up the sheath with the scale material. The brown sheath that comes with the maple is very nice; it fits. Good choice.

Excellent choice

My wife has one of the RnD Sub Compact Hawks in regular Maple with Tribal markings, beautiful looking handle.

Yeah I assumed this was the case by most the photos id seen but then I did see either someone on here or somewhere online post a photo of a wood handled one with a black sheath so I thought maybe they let you choose...but the only way to get it that way is to purchase another sheath for $80+... im ok with brown. Black would just blend my most my attire better is all.

i know the "new" stuff is supposed to be very good . . . and i don't doubt it for one minute.

But i prefer his "frontier" style. I have just one sadly . . . wish i had a folder to match.

That's a fantastic old classic Winkler! Wish I had gotten one when he was still hand forging.

Yes it is, she loves it ... very light and fast in the hand.

You have a RMJ Jenny Wren? I love mine...also fast and light. I love the looks of my Compact RnD but the RMJ handles much better for me. And the S13 gets a big  too...

Best fighter I have ever handled

No Jenny Wren, the only other compact hawk I have is a Winkler Stealth Axe LT... haven't decided whether I'll keep it or not though.

Always liked the look of the S13, should have bought one a long time ago.

Funny, I was just on the Winkler site. I don't own any, but I am this > < close to pulling the trigger. I have been eyeing them on and off for a couple of years, but keep finding something else that catches my attention elsewhere.
I think it's time I joined the club.

Funny, while I was still an LEO I never paid that much attention to Winkler's more tactical pieces he was just beginning to come out with. Now I sort of wish I had picked up some. The cool thing about the piece I have, (above), is that it reminds me of "Last of the Mohicans", the waterfall scenes of which were filmed about four miles from here as the crow flies.

I love Winkler’s stuff. I have a bunch including a couple of axes, the belt knife, the SD1 as my go-to hunting knife, and the Highlander series hatchet/knife. I want to get the RnD but can’t decide if I want to go compact or full size.

I looked at Winkler Knives for a while and wondered why there was so much interest in them. Several months ago I saw a Belt Knife for sale that had been "personalized" by removal of the Caswell coating. Other than that, it was in excellent shape and included all of the original "goodies" (box, papers, adapters etc) for a very reasonable price so I bought it. When it arrived and I held it in my hand, I understood why Winkler enjoys such a good reputation. The knife feels good in my hand, is solidly made and is the right size for normal camp chores. The brown leather sheath has great retention and the maple hand has some attractive tiger stripping. I look forward to taking it with me on my hikes and camping trips this summer.

Question for you all, do you think I should have gone with the spike version of the RND Hawk or non spike?

It won't see any woods use, ever.
