Kohai999 has agreed to buy this Mac Mini on his credit card and we can all pay him. How about Kohai sends us all a PM or email with the address to send our Money to? Lastly we need to figure out how to get it to his house.

As mentioned earlier, I'd toss in $50.00 as well. MAybe it would cover a memory upgrade or something. If the computer deal is already done, I'll just send the cash to Dave.

Consider this a done deal here people. I live in Vegas and will pick it up this week. There are a few people that I work with that live in Pahrump. Or I will either contact Alisha and work it out. Either way come hell or high water we should be sitting at our computers by next Saturday reading an OFFICIAL VG EMAIL. I will front the cash and we will work out the details later. Is this okay????? :eek: :eek: :eek:

This is great! It will be a good thing for VG to get back here amongst us all. I miss the bastid.

And just for clarification...

Kohai999 will place the order and put the amount on his credit card.

All that have chipped in will send Kohai999 a check or money order.

Parfive will pick up the Mac mini and arrange to have it delivered. Might I suggest sending a card along with it from welcoming VG back?

Kohai, you need to send parfive a copy of the online receipt of purchase via email. He will need it to pick up the unit.
 
WHOA, nobody put it on their card. It just may complicate things. I will purchase it this week (MONDAY), let everyone know the cost and we will work it out later.

Somebody just tell me whan and where to send money.

We need to be sure that we've got VG's wireless internet setup covered. I'd hate to give him something but not have it set up correctly. The Mini-Mac isn't user configurable, so a retail outlet would have to add whatever wireless setup is required.
 
Ok...update.

Tim (parfive) will order, pick up, and make arrangments to get the unit to VG.

We will send a check or money order to Tim for the cost.

VG will be back on line.

Let's get this done today. We have enough $$$ pledged to get the unit upgraded if need be. At the very least the RAM should be upgraded to 512MB. I don't think we need to go wireless on this, especially if he uses dial-up. If he does need it we can do it at a later date. No need to get ahead of ourselves.

Is everyone fine with this? Good. Tim and I will coordinate the ordering. I already spoke with someone at the Apple Store so they are familiar with what we are doing for Dave.

The MAC mini with upgraded RAM is going to come to $574. I think we have that covered. Anything extra can be used for his connection options.

Right now I would like to take the time to thank everyone for what they are doing for Dave. It makes me proud to know that anyone of us will do something special and out of the blue for someone you haven't even met. I am honored to be in the company of such caring people.

Well Dave did call me back last night after I left the office, so he got my voice mail. He says he can be reached any time on his 702 #. It's a little early by him right now, but I will try him again later.

I think it's great about the Mac-mini and I'm sorry I can't be of more help.
Tim, my only suggestion is make sure you talk to VG before you buy anything. He knows about the mini, but let's just make sure he gets what he wants.

Man it'll be great to see him back in here.

According to Phil, he's wireless, not dial-up. The Apple website states wireless options are "not user-installable on Mac mini and can be added later only by an authorized service provider."

I'd hate to send him the computer and still have him not able to get online. That would sort of defeat the point of what we're doing. ;) Besides, it would be a lot cheaper to get it done now instead of having a service center do it after the fact.
 
Ok, before I go and purchase this I know that so far we ARE getting the Mac Mini, upgrade the RAM to 512 and have the wireless option installed? Is this right and will it work for Dave meaning his monitor and keyboard?
 
Another Update and some questions:

I just went to the Apple store and have some questions.

1) Which wireless are we going to go with, Bluetooth 50.00, Airport Extreme 79.00 or both for 99.00

2) Wired keyboard and mouse 58.00

3) Wireless Keyboard and mouse 99.00

Maybe we take a breath here and decide and be sure this is what we are doing. Keep in mind that the 499.00 investment is going to climb quick with add ons and install charges. So far we are at 574.00 for just the unit and RAM upgrade. After we decide what add ons we need to get then we add it all up minus installation and see if we are better getting something else like maybe a DELL. I don't want to get him something just to get him online. I understand that we all want Dave on line and at the same time we are trying to keep our costs down. Let me know what way we are going and then I will take care of it. Last thing we need is to get Dave something that may give him problems and I am not sure what Dave's expertise level is with computers. Also, with him living in Pahrump it's not like we can run over there and tweak this and that. I do know that Alisha's computer skills are nill.

Ok, here is the deal. I spoke with VG to verify the type of connection he has. He has wireless DSL to his house and then he connects his computer to the wireless box outside his home via an ethernet cable. He does NOT need a keyboard or mouse. Gus is sending him a monitor. So, with info in hand, Tim and I have decided that the original configuration is the way to go ($574 w/ RAM upgrade). Tim will handle it from here on out. He will order the unit and make arrangements to get it to VG.

At this point it is pretty much set in stone. VG will be getting a Mac mini courtesy of his friends on BFC. All we have to do now is get the funds to Tim (parfive) and wait until the unit is ready to ship and up and running at VG's home.

Again, thank you all for making this happen. :D
 
Two questions.

1) Are we sure that he has a USB keyboard and mouse? The new Macs don't have the old ADB connector anymore and won't work with old style Mac keyboard/mouse setups.

2) Regarding my pledge of $50.00 - should I send it to Tim to help cover the computer itself, or straight to Dave for whatever he needs it for?
