Anyone else just stopped buying knives?

I was looking at knifecenter yesterday. I had something in mind. But today we went grocery shopping. I had to mortgage the house to pay for the food. Until the economy gets better I don't think I'll be buying many knives. Grateful for the 35 or 40 that I already have.

Nope. I don't think I've even slowed down.
The sheer number of knives out there gives me the illusion that I'm not buying that many. I've tried to buy good bang for the buck, and things that hold their value. Come the apocalypse they should be worth a can of beans or two.
But this is the golden age of knives and if you have that particular DNA, you just sit back and enjoy the ride.

I have not bought a knifer in several years. Not since replacing the Leatherman Wave that I lost.

This spring, my Father's Day gift to our son will be a one day, hands-on workshop session to make a hand forged knife with his son. So that will be the knife I buy thias year.
You sound like a very good dad. That's something our society doesn't have anymore. Need more like you

Well, apparently there are at least two...

So maybe "doesn't have enough of" would be a more accurate assessment.

Anyway, back to knives...and the misguided individuals who have stopped purchasing them. ;)

Well, it is an idea that anyone to follow up on. The cost to me is around $250. The cost to our son is a day of "quality time" with his son (our grandson). Anyone with the resources to buy a premium production knife can do something like this for Father's Day. a birth day . . . .or just because.

Many local outfits do things like this. A click search turned up this opportunity in the San Antonio area . . .just look around.

I'm not going to say stopped because I will continue to buy new knives occasionally, but I've slowed way down. I went through a long journey to buy knives that I like and that work best for my carry, so I have very little need to buy a new knife right now. However need is only part of the reason I buy knives. In the future I'll find new needs and there will be others that I really want. For instance I'm still waiting on a possible upcoming Spyderco LW PM2.

My number of knife purchases has actually gone down by quite a lot in the past several months, and the knives I do purchase tend to be the less expensive knives I'd always figured "Eh, I can buy those whenever" as I chased more expensive knives. Plus, the new knives released this year, like 90% of them just don't interest me at all.

I have really slowed down over the years

i will always get a few pieces at Blade but too many knives these days my kids are gonna have a killer yard sale

I could have written this same post.
In my case, my tendency toward cheaper knives with good utility has occurred over the last several years. I ve always had a hard time using my most expensive knives. But I now realize that their utility is , for the most part, no better than that of my well made cheaper knives.

I've slowed down quite a bit. At this point there are very few knives that would get me to spend my money on.

A friend of mine at work one day opened a bottle of brake fluid and poured it into a glass and I watched him drink it down like it was nothing!!!

I said 'are you crazy that stuff could kill you!'

he said ' it's ok, I can STOP any time...'

;)

as to knives, about the same thing, only different and worse in the end, haven't gotten there but no tellin' when it arrives.
