Anyone else looking forward to the GEC #83?

Great looking knife Daddyo. I would have liked to have gotten one , but had to stop somewhere.

Mine just got here! I have to say that this is one of the nicest GEC's I've handled. Light, slim, sharp, classy, a real home run.

Here it is next to a 15 for size reference

Man, what a beauty! Very, very sharp looking (pun intended, LOL)!

I just snagged one from CollectorKnives in gabon ebony as well. I'm excited for it to arrive, as most folks seem to be really pleased with theirs so far.

Added the Cocobolo, beautiful knife, exceptional quality for a factory knife, great job GEC.

Nice addition for you Augie. Does your Autumn Leaf have a little Orange cast ? Have you found yet that the 83 will fit in the watch pocket of your jeans ? I put mine up against a new Case Barlow and it is almost exactly the same length closed and has a much better F & F. IMO those who liked them but did not get one , missed a pretty good little knife. I have coon-fingered mine now for a couple of hours and could find nothing to dislike. They are not a work knife for me , but will be great small carry.

Those are some beauties. I have a fondness for small lockbacks so this one is definitely on my list. It will be hard choosing the scales with so many tempting flavors....

Two questions: How does the #83 fare with the usual GEC lockback bugaboo---blade play?

For anyone who has both a drop point and a clip, are there any small differences in blade dimensions---length, width, and thickness?

Thanks,

Andrew

I couldn't resist when one popped up for sale on the exchange...so mine is on the way:)

Mine has zero to none blade play. Also, what I read from other posters here and on Facebook sounds like these are extremely well made and have low tolerances concerning lockup.
The #83 seems to be a relatively safe bet.

Thanks for the info., burningcrow. The temptation just got stronger!

My other question about blade dimensions comes from a quick glance at some pics. It looked to me like the clip might be a tad wider (from spine to edge) than the drop point. I hope that's so, and if it were a little thinner, that would suit me as well. Hope someone with both will chime in.

Harry, the Autumn Leaf has some orange, kind of like the 60's Case Redbone. I don't carry in a watch pocket so can't help you there.
Andrew, between my wife and I we have 5 of these and the only one with a little blade play is a store second bought at the Rendezvous.

Thanks, Augie. Good to know and I'm hoping that blade play in all GEC lockbacks may soon be a thing of the past.

It certainly sounds like this one has turned into a favorite on the porch : ) looking forward to its arrival. Alchemy that picture gives me a good preview. Fresh cut from that knife?

My 83 is rock solid. It just feels well made. As I have mentioned before, it is a surprise winner. The 15s are great knives and get a lot of focus so I think the 83 just slid past many. I have an ebony and love it. The cocobolos look particularly beautiful.

I am in Maine again so no knive for a few days. :(

Just received my Autumn bone and Ebony #83's. What sweet little knives! Both pretty much flawless in my eyes. Vertical play is basically a non-issue to the extent you have to work intentionally to find it. The pattern is impressive enough that I would gladly pay a premium to get my hands on a mother-of-pearl version! Here is my Ebony with some stablemates.
