Anyone ever file a paypal claim, for undelivered item?

From a seller's point of view I believe it should be the buyers responsibility to purchase insurance for their items. When they pay me and as soon as I ship the item, the item then becomes the buyers. Thus, buy insurance. When I noticed ebay stopped using the insurance option then I stopped selling on ebay. I always have proof that I shipped the item. The point is I shouldn't be out an item and money from paypal because the USPS screwed up. It's just another case of people (that is the USPS) not taking responsibility for their mistakes and letting others take the hit. If I purchase something off of ebay then I send the seller a message stating a request for insurance, to let me know how much the insurance will cost and add it to the shipping price along with a delivery conf. That way if the package gets lost I claim insurance with the usps and the seller doesn't lose his money. Also in good conscience I can't take someone's money to reimburse me for something they did not do.

It's set up so paypal covers it out of the seller's account if it's lost and I still insure anything I sell on eBay anyway. The option to set up the auction so the buyer pays insurance separately, or as a add on has been removed by eBay. You can still include it and charge a flat fee for the entire shipping. I myself believe it's my responsibility to make sure the item I sell gets there. I don't want paypal taking the money from me myself if an item is lost so I pay the insurance.

Does anyone have experience with filing claims against package that were delivered but lost as a result? I just had a knife order from Ebay stink up because UPS left the package at the "FRONT DOOR" while I was away for the holidays. Needless to say, there was no package in sight when I finally made it back to my apartment. Typically the UPS guy will leave the package (with a signature) at the front office. I don't know what happened this time or which door they were even referring to. I've contacted the seller and they have filed a lost claim to UPS but I'm not feeling too optimistic about it. The knife in question was also a discontinued 2010 spyderco so chances are I won't be getting a replacement.

I always wondered how UPS deals with that. They used to never drop packages at the door and leave, then they started doing it a few years ago.
I guess they had to because of people not being home so often when they came by.(they would come 3 times and then send it back, before) I sure think it will be hard to get any reimbursement out of them, if they scanned it delivered. I'm lucky and live out in the country where my UPS packages aren't bothered left on my porch.

...I agree with Jill on this point. I also take it upon myself to insure what I ship. The buyer has no means to be able to support any claims for lost or stolen items anyway. How is the buyer to be held responsible for getting all the necessary information to the Post Office or PayPal or UPS or any other carrier when he or she has no real knowledge of the item they did not receive??...Insurance is to assure that I get the package where it's meant to go...:)
