April 2022 Buck of the Month - 112 S35VN 50th Blade Etch Marble Carbon Fiber Inlays

Unfortunately, I am going to have to pass. I'm not able to open Knives like this anymore. That's why I'm hoping for a fixed blade. Maybe next month.

Don't forget to look at the Web specials! The cut resistant gloves at 3 bucks are a real bargain and I got 2 pairs for my Brother Charlie (2-x) who has a hard time finding some that fit 2 for me and a pair for the wife. I forgot to grab a t-shirt...

Is it really necessary to add "BUCK USA" to the mark side since it has the 50th anvil there already? Maybe squeeze the street address, web address, and phone number on there too.
Looks too busy for a tang stamp etch.

I'm not a 112 guy, but love them none the less. That being said, is it sacrilege to buy one, punch the blade out, and put it in a TRX?

I'm wondering if you'll ever see a 112 that strikes your fancy? 😁
I have a couple. a d2 one got from skblades. a buckeye burl s30v one got from custom shop, and a take apart red micarta one got botm while back. just not a knife I like much. too small for belt carry and too fat for pocket carry. really prefer the discontinued 500 to the 112.
Ha...sure...one with a machete blade and he would be all over it. :p
true. wouldn't even care if it had 112 laser etched all over it...id still line up to buy one.

The 50th laser etch turns me off on this knife. Seen so many Buck etched knives where the etching is worn off after use. I understand why they switched to etching knives on steels other than 420HC. They build these knives to stand the test of time, but I guess the name will no longer be a part of that.
It is a nice knife, but, I feel the same way as you about the etched tang. I am going to pass . I understand that this dislike of etching will limit my future purchases. That may not be a bad thing.:) Maybe that will leave money for a big Buck bowie or another of my wish list Bucks.

Could "limited edition" also indicate that an item was only produced once, regardless of the quantity?

For me, the short answer is No. Take for example the Buck Legacy knives. They used to be limited editions with a specific number made and known, now they are made all year long (only produced once - for that year), as many as people want to buy, buck will make. And, the buyer/collector never knows how many were actually made.

Now the BOTM is following a similar trend. They used to be limited (on average 150 to 250 per month, some months less than 100), but now (April 2022) they are producing 750 (up from 500 a month starting in 2021). Where does it end ? Limited Edition of 1,000 or more in 2023 ?

"Limited Edition" is a pet peeve of mine. I have seen limited edition knives of 10,000 (forget the exact knife - not Buck). But really, all too common is the limited edition knife made in a limited edition of 1,000 plus knives. I know it is just marketing with some "Limited Editions", but this is my little stance at a push back to Buck. "750 is not Limited !" There, push back done, Buck has felt my wrath !

As long as people keep buying up every released BOTM...it will never end. Profit is the name of the game.

Yep....That's what the new Buck leadership is bringing...Volume, volume volume. I suspect the spa program will change a bit too...Just my opinion

Unfortunately, I know this to be true. Soon, I will no longer be interested in the BOTM if they start making them each month in the 750 to 1000 range. Why pay a premium for such a knife.

Lots of the Gold etched 110's from the 80's and early 90's are limited runs anywhere from 75-2,500, with most falling in the 500-1500 range and some of those that had over 1000 made can be really tough to find.........

I think the Custom Shop offerings are more appealing.
Agreed. Once Joe H. retired, I had to find my fix elsewhere and went to the Custom Shop. But now I have all I need from the Custom Shop. It would be nice if they could change up the offerings in the Custom Shop as far as blade steels and handle materials. If they added the 124, that would make the Custom Shop very, very appealing to me.

Yes for collectors I can agree that limited means limited.

I’m not that kind of collector, I’m more of an accumulator of the knives I like to use. I think the custom shop is the way to go for persons like me, s30v and 420hc is good but Buck really needs to up the game and offer s35vn and s45vn along with drop and clip point in all the steel flavors. I’d also like to see some more and better handle cover materials offered as well.

On the botm and legacy offerings they seem to hit just outside the center of target on having the exact knife I”d like to get so if they put the offerings in the custom shop I could build the exact knife I want. I guess I kinda made this into a rant . Sorry! But sometimes it makes a difference.
