Are Spyderco Prices becoming unreachable?

Cherry-picking the Lil Temp for your complaint is misleading. When the G10 version was discontinued a few years ago, it was $211 (and would probably be around $250 if made today). Seki City has been expensive for awhile, especially when it comes to G10. Your other example is Stretch 2XL Cruwear, which is another Seki City G10 model. The recent expensive Ayoob is another Seki City G10 model. You can't use those Seki City models as representative of the entire lineup.

If you are comparing to top quality knives made with CNC machines using VERY inexpensive labor by live in workers from factories with suicide nets installed around them then yes you are going to pay more for products of the same type and quality made by regular workers making regular wages who go home after a work day.

I am not trying to be a drag but that is what it boils down to.

I agree that prices of everything are creeping nearer and nearer to the point where a majority of people think twice before clicking the “checkout” button.

Lots of reasons for the inflation, but its probably most closely connected to the cost of fuel.

As far as spyderco, if you look at it from a “need and gonna buy one good knife, carry and use it all the time” then they arent bad. For people who like to collect the mindset is more “want to buy a good knife and rotate it into my daily carry”. I think that when the “need” turns into a “want” most people become more conscious of their choice to spend.

The price will be too high when the demand/sales stop

Let's face it. Premium knives are a luxury. Not everyone can afford luxury. Not everyone should be able to afford luxury. If everyone could, it wouldn't be premium or luxury. Millions of people are content with their truck stop knives, which by the way are now $15 to $30 instead of $5 to $10.

Spyderco operates on fixed margins. Cost of production determines price. Everyone wants more money for their labor, which increases production cost, which increases price. Whining about it accomplishes nothing.
Luxury? Is it a Premium Knife? Whining? Whos Whining?

I stocked up on my favorite models, so just watching from the sidelines now. Let the free market sort it out I say.

The price of everything is becoming unreachable.
I buy less, of most things.
And occasionally I’ll bite the bullet and buy something now, anticipating it will be even more expensive in a few months.

Sometimes I use “gas math” like ylimehajile ylimehajile
and sometimes I go without because the life of jmh33 jmh33 is right around the corner.

I need a couple of new Delicas, btw. 😉

Compared to what really? Are Spyderco knives going up more than other manufacturers, not really. The Para 3 is still at or pretty close to what I paid for mine whereas the Bugout is now almost $60 more than what I paid. I can still find a Manix 2 for under $130 in some places which is a major bargain. Sure some premium blades from Spyderco are reaching the unreasonable but same could be said for many. Emersons have been at that point for a long time in my opinion. I still consider Spyderco well within my comfort zone.

Would not pay $30 for a truck stop knife.

Every year the price of Spydercos go up. I understand a little bump here and there.

With the new LW Lil Temperance at $176 and the Stretch 2XL cruwear at $285 Im thinking many people, my self included, will not be able to afford these knives anymore.

Spyderco is my favorite knife manufacturer and I hope they are not pricing themselves out of bussiness.

Also I have to mention I think theres a problem with Quality Control with knives being put out for sale.

I have had a few that I fixed myself, but if the price keeps going up, I will return every single one that is not perfect.

What does everyone else think?
There's always Ozark Trial 🤪 $5

Most people in here will tell you that you are wrong, but Spyderco prices are absolutely getting too high for what you are receiving. It's better to just save up another $100 to $200 for your knife budget and get something amazing instead of an overpriced Spyderco that's an iteration of a long standing design in updated materials with the same $150 dollar range QC and finish they've always had.

There are a lot of factors going into why Spyderco isn't as good of a buy as it used to be, but that doesn't change the fact.

It is nice that we have choices to go along with our opinions and preferences. I carry Spyderco most of the time and it is not the price that has me do so. I have carried them since the Delica had a molded-in pocket clip and I just really like them. I don’t like smooth or metal scales, or small handles or thumb studs, and I don’t like non-button flippers. There are so many excellent folders out now, anyone should be able to find something they like and trust at a price they feel is fair. I just saw retail on a SAK Swiss Champ and couldn’t believe it- most knives have gone up. My favorite firearms have all been around for a while too- they don’t need anything to be improved. Jmho

Many things are more expensive now. Used to be able to get a burger and fries from McDonalds for under $10, now the same thing is nearly $15. It makes sense that a Delica that cost $65 in "recent memory" that isn't actually all that recent is now $90. Of course, that doesn't mean that I don't have to remind myself of this once in a while.

$10? You were being fleeced even then my friend.
