Are You A HOG?. . . .

Boy, this is a tough one. I agree that it is more about having a certain state of mind and attitude than simply a pile of INFI. (of course you probably got that pile of INFI because of your attitude........see I said it was tough) It's also about the community, which is more the reason we all spend so much time here. Traveling half way across the country to be at the trough displays that certain attitude. Lurking about on the forum and eBay, hoovering up knives, while NOT being part of this community, suggests to me that you don't have the state of mind.

I would not want to see a codified caste system, it seems that it would be unworkable in the real world, and has the potential of creating division or tension.

Maybe I'm saying the current system is working, and Jerry knows when you're ready to be part of "our thing".

I agree, there is no such thing as a little pregnant...

I think the serious replies (a few from me) and inane responses (nearly all mine) have been pretty balanced. This ain't CSPAN! :D

I'm not just a Hog.....I AM HEAVYHOG!!!!

THIS IS HOGDOM!!!! I scream as I kick a little piggie off the edge of the trough...

Hog is a state of mind. If you have Busse that you love so much that you won't rest till you have them all...you might be a hog....

When Jerry can make you do this for a little INFI fix!

adxGetMedia.aspx

I'm sure the Boss is at least gaining entertainment value from it.

"Hold my scotch and watch this !"

Nothin' quite like kicking an anthill !

I have also tried to bribe Amy-0.

Does anyone realise how crazy a cab company thinks you are when you call from Canada and ask for a case of Coors to be delivered to a US company? :p

Wow, so many guys on here seem rather shy........ going with a "Piglet" title when they are far beyond that.

What would be the purpose of levels? Speaking specifically about the ASH-1, where something was mentioned about 'special pricing for hogs,' would that mean there would be 4 different prices, depending upon your level? Isn't defining a "Hog" by itself hard enough? I mean, be serious, how much scotch does Jerry have?

Or is a Hog a Hog ? As in, once you pass a certain threshold, you ARE a "Hog," no matter what.

So, then, what makes a "Hog?"

Yes, I agree to the "State of mind" definition, but that's hard to illustrate without actions. RobGrose13's statement of scheduling your life around a 'ganzaaaa posting certainly makes the point, but if you don't get your email in or the computer crashes right at the posting time (believe me, I know ALL about that!) then no one but you knows about it.

YOU know you're a dedicated "Hog" but you are not the one that needs convincing. To be blunt, it's Jerry that needs convincing. But he can't read minds, good intentions or look thru your monitor to see you F-5'ing like a mad man hoping to be first in. And bribing him with JWB only works until the next guys bribe comes in......:D

If you join a club and pay your initiation fee, you become a member of that club. While there are higher levels within, you can get in the door and get the benefits because you are now a member.

So, I propose a simple yet demonstrable method to prove you're a Hog: Show that you've spent a minimum of $1000 on Busse knives.
Anything less, you're still a "piglet."

While this is a minimal dollar amount for some, it's a substantial amount for others. But it's enough to show you're past "checking out the Busse line," etc. It proves you have seen, held, tested and yes, came to BELIEVE in the power of INFI.

And you came back for more.

.

On a serious note, I am glad there is some focus on aspects OTHER than just straight collection size.

I would like to think a big part is helping spread the word and having fun in the process!

On a side note, how many points do I lose for having a Scrap Yard collection? 'Cause Dan's blades rock too! :p

I don't think the benefit of being a HOG is price. Jerry described it as a "special offer". I have a feeling Jerry will offer hand shaped slabs to HOGs ONLY. Just a HOPE ;)

Or Jerry's statement could be read a different way...

There will be a limited supply of Heavy Ordinance ASH-1s with special pricing??!?!?!??!!

vs.

Inducted HOGs get special pricing??!?!?!?!!!?!

Fixed your post. :p

If there are special HOG ASH-1s then I think I should be considered a HOG for the time being at least. :D
