Are you "the knife guy"?

I'm "the knife guy" at work, my roommate likes to make analogies for everything and comes up with some pretty convoluted knife analogies when talking to me (as if I see the world through knife-colored glasses, and can only understand things in the context of knives), and I seem to become "the knife guy" wherever I work, even if I do my damnedest not to out myself.

It doesn't really bother me, though. It's something I spend a lot of time talking about (almost 3K posts so far just on this forum) and looking at, thinking about, buying, selling, trading, taking pictures, handling, tuning, maintaining, and using... It's my foremost hobby after bodybuilding, the two of which combined have prevented me from turning on my XBOX One this entire year so far. I still haven't finished Far Cry 4, GTA V, or Fallout 4, and then there's a new Deus Ex and a new Just Cause and then No Man's Sky... I swear, I used to be a gamer. I really did. I'm not far off from selling my XBOX and the games to have more knife money kicking around. I could probably pay for 1/2 of a Tendick 3V Kwaiken if I did...

What about you? Are you "the knife guy" to most people you know? Does it bother you? Is this a relatively minor and ignorable aspect of your life from the perspectives of others? Do you intentionally keep it on the down-low, or do you secretly hope that someone will spot your pocket clip or sheath and strike up a pleasant knife-bro conversation? Have other hobbies fallen by the wayside, or have you picked up side-hobbies like paracord / watches / man-toys (tops, knucks, etc) as a result of knives? Does your paypal account ebb and flow like the tides? Can you assemble a small flatrate box with one hand blindfolded in less than fifteen seconds?

yep and because I also shoot limited class in uspsa w/ a custom sti edge am also called gunjohnny lol.I also became pretty good at sharpening with my edgepro due to watching apostleP's you tube videos so everybody wants me to put a nice sharp shiny edge on their knives. Its due to you guys on this forum that I have learned so much knifewise in such a short time ---thx.

I'm the knife guy at work everybody knows it. I don't hide it, in fact I get on the forum quite often at work along with all the on-line blade shops looking at what's new. I will get asked my opinion on a knife or somebody will get a new knife and show me mostly $20-$30 knives. They have no idea how much I have spent on knives or how many I own. I have converted a few on spending a little more on a knife and get a better one but not many. I have been sharping knives for the guys at work to help with my skills, most of the time the is edge is fair but to them this is the sharpest its ever been.

I wear a few different hats at work, but Yes, I'm the knife guy, the axe guy, the gun guy, and the guitar guy. I have been making and collecting edged tools for as long as I can remember. My friends keep telling me I need to do it professionally, but then it would become work and not a stress reliever. A couple of the guys bring me antlers to use and I have made them skinning blades for their trouble. They also come to me whenever they are interested in a firearm, I keep trying to tell them I only know revolvers and Winchester rifles and can't help them with Glocks or ARs.

Funny you mention that part about someone noticing the pocket clip. I usually wear a shirt short enough that you can still see my pocket clip..I don't like to tuck my shirt in.
Me and another co-worker are knife nuts and talk knives all the time.
As a former LEO, I'm also the go to gun guy.
My work locker even has a Blade Forum logo taped on it :)

Oh yeah, wear this one all the time.

I must not be the knife guy, because I have been able to keep it under the radar for the most part. My family are the only ones that really know I always have a knife with me. My knife hobby hasn't really morphed into a new one, or replaced an old one. I would say that it has really given me an appreciation for quality craftsmanship, which creeps into all aspects of life.

Among my friends I'm the knife guy! Every time we get together for a barbecue they always want to see my new acquisition...

I used to be the knife guy, but my friends got tired of always having to borrow mine and got their own.

In the family, me and my brother in law are the "knife guy's" and quite frankly, none of my brothers or sisters can understand the appeal. They might own one knife, might. At work, everyone knows I have a knife on me and they sometimes ask to borrow or have me cut something for them.

I'm the resident knife guy at work, although one co-worker has a few Striders and everyone else has at least a SAK. It's not really a big deal there, I get all my stuff shipped to work so people are used to the sight of large blades being carried around. The last one was a 21" Gelbu Special HI kukri, it sat on my desk for a bit so everyone came over to check it out.

Definitely the knife guy. Pretty much the only knife guy, really. And I don't even have a crazy collection, but ALWAYS have a knife (or 2) on me, which is brought up every time I show up to something with a noticeable pocket clip.

Hah, the owner told me today to keep the knives to 4" and under. Yeah, Im that guy.

Yep, I'm that guy, also the (woodworking/construction) tool guy. I only know a few others in my physical circle of friends, only three including my dad.

I have sold several knives to my coworkers and they know I'm knowledgable but I've never divulged the extent of my hobby. So maybe I am to them but not to the extent it certainly could be.

I've been the middleman for a few blades for friends and co-workers (I can generally find them for much less than they can) and ended up giving my Cold Steel Kobun to a co-worker who had more than once mentioned that he was a big fan of the knife. Three years later, he still has the knife and just about treasures it. I'm thinking about getting the 5.5" warcraft tanto so we can have the same general blade shapes, and then we can be true knife bros.

Yup.

As far as video games, I'm a Silent Hill guy.

(isn't it obvious?)
