Are you "the knife guy"?

And he took it and tried to cut through thick metal straps (securing a commercial sized oven to a pallet). It made me cringe.

I quite frankly can't stand people like that. I know it's ignorance but non-knife folks don't know how expensive some knives are.
He's lucky he didn't slice his hand open!

I am in so much as I always have something on me to cut something with. But I think I'm over it as an obsession. It's more like a fun hobby and a really enjoyable forum where I get to hear about ppl's lives that quite often is completely different from my own which is why I find the forum so interesting.

Among my friends and co-workers I am the Knife Guy...when I walk into Cabela's several of the employees also recognize me as "Hey, Knife Guy!" Gosh, I feel like a celebrity.

At work I'm the "dangerous psychopath" and "antisocial" guy. That is the opinion of the secretary ... and as we all know are always right !!!!
For my coworkers I'm the "scissors guy" ( carry a diferent model according to work ) a "sharpenning guy" and a "I need a good knife but I want it for free" all weeks the same:
Kermmak I need a good knife, you have a douzens ... Could you give me one ? ..... oh shit...

I work in an office with suit and tie. Still, my boss introduced me to the auditors the other day as the "knife guy." So yes...I suppose so! I did have a ZT0560, a Pacific Salt and a SAK on me at the time...

Yep, at work I'm the knife guy.

I do 12hr night shifts twice a week, a boiler operator stuck in a control room most of the time, so the WE lives in my locker and that's where the sharpening happens. There's about 30 people on a night shift, 70 on days, and they all know where to get their knives sharpened.

I'm cool with it, a lot of the them are fisho's, boat and beach, including a charter operator, pig hunters too, quite a few farmers or small block owners that do mutton and beef homekills, people who really use their cutting tools and appreciate a good edge.
I charge $5 - $10 a knife, mainly 'cos if I didn't there'd be a never ending queue. And it's paid for some stones and a WE upgrade kit over the past few years.

I keep some decent cheapo chinese folders in my locker for sale, and a few good folders for people to see. Usually its the cheapie's that sell, occasionally someone wants a Spyderco, but the exchange rate makes them expensive over here.
There's quite a few people at work with an EDC folder now, that wonder how they ever got by before without one :D

On BF I'm a greenhorn compared to many here, but to my coworkers I am 'The Knife Guy'. Bless them.

I'm the "knife guy" in my group of friends. I'm a practical person so I always have a knife on me, and everyone knows it. Surprising though not many, if any of my friends carry knives or know anything about them. If I recommend them a $40 knife (let alone one over $100) their jaw would drop and say "I'm not spending that much!". Little do they know I have a Sebenza on me and would think I'm crazy to drop that coin on a knife. I don't ever push the situation though. Since I started making knives now though, they are always asking me to make them one "pro bono"... surprise.

I definitely am the knife guy. Especially on Christmas. This year I'm integrating a coin slot into my wardrobe and leaving the family get together a rich man. "Sure Ill cut that open for you. Please deposit a quarter"

There is 14 guys at my work, 12 of them carry knives. I am considered the knife guy though, I've influenced most of the guys with their knife purchase(the Spyderco & Emerson guys). They have all had their knives for less than a year now and love them. One of the guys commented, "I can't believe how much I actually use it." Which was a very rewarding complement for me. I have tried to get the other guys into better knives and one of the tac force guys went out and bought a Smith & Wesson spring assisted flipper

Me: Sebenza 25, XM-18, PM2..
4 guys: Spyderco's (Sage, PM2, Endura w/ wave & Manix2)
1 guy: Emerson & Spyderco Endura w/ wave
1 guy: $5 harbor freight knife
1 guy: Buck
1 guy: Leatherman
1 guy: an old slip joint
2 guys: Tacforce
2 guys: nothing

I'd say I am where I work. However, the head Muay Thai instructor actually has and carries more expensive knives than me but just isn't as into it as I am, I'd say. A couple other people appreciate and use knives also, again just not on the same level. I would definitely say that it is a much much more Pro knife environment than most, but it is a BJJ/Muay Thai/MMA/Fitness gym, so it makes sense.

Yes i am that guy but i dont carry very expensive knives i tend to spend big on fixed blades. I am the guy at work that gets asked how many do i have on me...i tend to carry like 5 at least counting neck knife

never met a blade i didnt like

Yep, I'm that guy, also the (woodworking/construction) tool guy. I only know a few others in my physical circle of friends, only three including my dad.

^ I fall in your category, Bill.

I've spoken a few time with a good friend here (Big Mark), on the phone about this. We both work in the trades, & have extensive inventories of high quality carpentry tools. Having the right tools is a necessity, but also became a passion/hobby (always finding something new). Mark is an avid knife collector (much more so than me). We spoke about how our passion for tools, evolved into our passions for knives.

Now that I'm spending as much for "ONE" knife, as I paid for some of my expensive tools, I realize how out of hand this obsession with cutlery has gotten. What's funny, is that I now sometimes wince at paying a certain prices for a specific tool, but have no problems paying more, for a very expensive knife.

I'm definitely that knife guy, to all of my friend's, & people in the workplace. A few them really enjoy, seeing a new blade I may have purchased, but are astonished, that I would pay that much money for one knife.

Edit:

Same! I've been carrying and using my folders less and less and have been more frequently carrying 2-3 fixed blades on my person at work. (Usually just 2 on my belt, and sometimes I'll swap out my folder for a pocket fixed blade)

...I'd make some kind of comment jabbing at you carrying as many as five knives, but, if I have two fixed blades, a folder, and then the ever-present Spyderco Roadie on my keychain, I'm already at four...

Yeah i usually carry a swiss army (gotta have the tooth pick) and a schrade 3 blade folder, a mtech neck knife or my becker bk11, schrade schf23, then i usually have a kershaw or gerber folder sometimes i have my smith and wesson border patrol its big and heavy and i use the seat belt cutter for stretch wrap and banding and such at work...

Being the knife guy isn't so bad, but I wish it was me calling someone else the knife guy.

I start the day with a pair of fixed blades on my belt, a BK11 as a LRP FB, a Buck 501 and a Buck 484 in my front pockets, and "stealth folder" that looks like a house key on my key ring for those "just in case" situations. :D When I strap on my duty belt for an EMS call, I add a pair of trauma shears, a pair of seat belt cutters and a spring punch.

The dual Bucks are because I've always carried 2 pocket knives an incident in 1965 that lead me to ALWAYS have at least one knife accessible by either hand, with paired fixed blades whenever working with equipment. That transitioned into ALWAYS carrying dual fixed blades because of I prefer fixed blades - easier to access, more versatile and I've never had one break or close on my fingers in use. The paired sets of cutting instruments on the duty belt are because one never knows when one will fail or be lost, and in the event of an MCI, more cutters may be needed.

I am definitely the knife guy, both at work & within my family. I only collect & carry custom fixed blades, & I EDC one all the time...rotating. I only carry multiples occasionally, but I think it's awesome that you've got 2-3 on ya at work!

I got several lady's to get Pioneer SAK. I believe every one should at least have a solid basic SAK.
