Back by Popular Demand... What folder do you guys carry?

i have a 561 and while it is a good size, I think I'd want my fixed blade to be slightly larger.

I just noticed that fallkniven gp, how do you like it? I saw on with micarta that intrigued me, and it's between the gp and the gerber 39 micarta. I know people hate on gerber but I haven't had a bad experience yet.

The Fallkniven GP is a GREAT little, old school knife. I find I use it more than my other folders, including my Fallkniven PXL and the ones mentioned in this topic (except the ZT that I got yesterday). The lock up is strong and the blade is pretty stout considering it's size.

Wait a minute!
I know this is off topic, but what's the deal with the camo scales on your new 5.1? All of the others that I have seen, including mine look nothing like that. They are more of a reddish brown and black Camo with a slight hint of green and tan.
It's time to spill it.

You're right, my new 5.1 has browns, blue and some green. But as you can see in the post it's very similar to my 4.1 and 5. The colors are the same but the lines are thinner on the new scales and the old scales have been handled for over 2 years and have darkened. My N2 has camo scales that have blacks and browns in it that seems similar to what you mention above.

That lil baby is on my "eventually would like" listy, I will be curious what you think!?

I've been playing and I am having problems opening it without hesitation, even after a few house of opening and closing. I called ZT and they said the knife has a stop ball, I think he called it a g10 ball, that holds the blade closed as a safety feature. The rep said they have had similar issues that I am having and offered to fix it at no cost. The guy I spoke with said he had the same issue but was able, after 3 months, to break the action in so that the knife opened like it should. This is more of an FYI, but I am still pretty impressed with the knife and will probably keep it. I should be getting the 566 this afternoon and will add a photo of it to this thread.

you maybe be gripping the lockbar part of the frame a little too tight. I have several zt and when I first got my 561 I had the same issue, too much pressure on lockbar. try flipping the knife while being aware of your grip and see if that helps. also, pushing the flipper kind of like a light switch instead of a button may also help. I personally press at a diagonal,2-8 o'clock, angle. I don't really know how else to describe it, sorry.

Yep, it doesn't take much pressure on that lockbar to totally keep that baby from opening. I'd like to have a 566, they seem about the right size to me. I fiddled with a 562 the other day. I really really like the grind on it, but like the 561, it is a substantial knife. I'd like to see a 566 ground like the 562.

the 562 is a sharp knife, no pun intended. I really wish I had kept the m390 version. the 550, despite being fugly, is still my favorite. I have beaten and abused that knife and she still as solid as the day I got her, although the edge needs a serious touch up.

I thought that was the case initially but I've opened and closed it for well over an hour in different positions and it still sticks. It's not stiff it feels like it has to break to open. The support person at ZT said it's the ball that keeps the blade closed and said it was a known issue with the knife.

What's funny is i was able to handle one at the gun show the other weekend and that was my only knock (the flipping action) but i also handled a CRK that i found very stiff, so i figured it was just due to break in/short window of handling. I will be curious to see how this ends up :)

I guess the safety mechanism just needs to be broken in, just a lot more so in my case. Mine does fly open with a good solid click and lockup once I get past the sticking point.

zt's customer service is outstanding in my experience, they will certainly take care of you.

Just got the 0566. It's stiff but doesn't have the same issue that the 0561 has. It needs to be broken in but it can be opened with one finger. I love the length and feel. On first impression it's a perfect EDC and it's crazy sharp like the 0561.

did you get teh black wash one? Looks very slick!

Yep, it's the one in the middle. It was cheaper by $15 on Amazon, which had free shipping and was the best price from the 3 big sites I hit. The G10 scales are nice and tacky and are very similar to my Spyderco PM2. The stainless back is slick compared to the 561 but the knife stays seated in my hand when I use the flipper.

here are the folders in rotation. the zt550 is my work edc

there are others that I didn't feel like taking out of boxes, but I don't carry them.

The black out is the exact model I have saved in my cart, looks sharp. Rxavage, that is one fine pile-o-steel. My folder rotation is weak
