Backyard SURVIVE!n'

Wow, Standard, you're giving me something to aspire to. Nice work

Next challenge: what kind of feather stick can you do with the 5?

Backyard therapy :) You done good.
Thanks HK!! I've been working at this lady's gorgeous house and the woman across the street has a son that is a heroin addict that is a piece of shit. He tried starting a fight with me yesterday over nothing and he spit on my Vans windshield. He ran when I opened the gate and told him I already called the cops. It took every bit of my patience to keep calm.

Thanks Silver! I used branches from a citrus tree so they're relatively soft. If I can do it, so can you!
I'll see what I can do feather stick wise because I honestly suck at it so don't expect anything pretty!

I went with a spoon this time. What a pain in the butt.

Dang son, that is amazing! Have you done a lot of Small whittling like that before even if not all in the same stick?

I had a few big branches come down in my back yard and I've been studying up on spoon making. How'd you work out the bowl of the spoon using the 4.1?

I have only done a few try sticks in the past with other 1095 knives but I stopped because they rolled and dulled quickly. This steel is just amazing and they're still shaving sharp.
On the bowl part I used only the tip and drilled it first then carefully removed the excess. Just be cautious because the blade can slip easily. I did this one on a table pretty far away from my legs because I've read about people stabbing themselves.

Very cool, good advice. My goal is to make a GSO 5 spoon.

Oh yeah, either birch or silver maple or black locust. I have a variety from a summer of storms.

What were you using for all those try sticks?

Oh man you're lucky! These are all from a weird citrus tree that produces lemons, limes and oranges. This stuff gets a bit stringy.

I wonder if oak would make a good spoon? Its readily available here. That and pecan are what I cook and carve most but I never tried a spoon. Just mangled a few wanna be feather sticks. I'm sure y'all seen em and got a good laugh.

It might work well if you catch it quick enough. The oak around here is hard as hell!

It might be really hard to work with carving wise. I don't know much about wood but the oak tree I have here is dense and a pain to chop.

Yea same here, everything else is plum full of sap. I got some family that has lemon trees. I see if my cousin can send me a pic of one of his lemons. There almost as big as a persons head.

He wears large gloves and these are still green.

You can make a pitcher of lemonade out of one. And you don't really need sugar cause these are naturally sweet.

My grandmother has been growing them for years. My uncle and my cousin took clippings this one is my cousins. I'll take some when they get bigger and actually turn yellow.
