Bad trade with gnw1209: no comm. or knife

When I reminded him of the email he took the "high road" and hung up on me. Now I know that many of you (like myself) was hoping that Garrett would have learned a lesson by all of this but from what I experienced today, it hasn't happened yet! Not only did he attempt to steal my knife (as well as numerous others) but he continues to be untruthful and when confronted with the truth, runs and hides. As I said earlier I had given this much thought ... The phone call today was simply intended to let him (or Jean) know of the additional costs that I had incurred because the knife had been used so that he might understand the total costs of his behavior. But after Garrett's reaction I decided to ask for reimbursement for the costs that I have incurred. Greg

Well I tried to have faith, but I see ya'll are right and he has not learned the error of his ways. If he is going to "punk out" like that then I agree something more should be done. This is ridiculous....if he is still going to lie and try and worm his way out then obviously there is no teaching him the "easy" way.

He e-mailed me today and said he would be returning the Victorinox One-Hand-Trekker I sent to him.

We'll see if I get it back.

I don't think I want to get a lawyer involved since the only people that it will end up costing in the in is us and Jean. She has already agreed to pay the difference between what i paid for the new knife and what I sell it for. I told her that I would take new photos of the knife this weekend and list it with full disclosure of the knife's condition. She has provided me with her personal email so that I can let her know the difference. Besides, Garrett is a minor and would probably get little more than a slap on the wrist if it his first offense.

I have made numerous buys, sales and trades on BF and this is the first time I have ran into an issue. I try my best to provide clear photos and accurately describe the condition of the knives I am selling/trading and if the other party is not satisfied, I will gladly refund their money and cover their shipping costs. The last thing I want is to have someone unhappy with a deal and wind up with a bad reputation on BF or any other forum.

BTW, I just noticed that Esav has 39,013 posts, WOW!!!

That may be the case but he will keep getting bigger slaps and if he is still up these shenanagins when hes
older he will end up in the clink. Or will no doubt end up get his head caved in by someone he rips off.
Its a shame his parents are out of the scene as I'm sure they would have a bit more to say to him about this.

I was told to post here about gnw1209 failing to ship me his end of the knife trade. I hope someone here can help me get the knife or get me my end of the trade back. We sealed the deal on 6-08-09 about our trade of his BM Rant and my Camelbak. It has been over 2 weeks and no knife and he is not returning my emails. I hope someone can help.

Well, it's fairly obvious after the last page or two of posts that Garrett isn't going to learn from these events.

I had hoped that the grandmother would find a way to punish him that would make him truly contrite for his scam.

That doesn't look to be the case.

Good luck to all you gentlemen who got used knives after sending new ones.

Sounds like you need to give the grandmother a call.

Guys, good news!!!!!!
I actually spoke to Garrett in person as well as his guardian (grandmother). First of all his grandmother is a wonderful lady to speak with on the phone. We had a very long conversation where I gave her a detailed account
of what young Mr. Watts had been up to. Turns out she and I went through the knives/gear Garrett had hoarded in his less than stellar outings. His grandmother assures me everything will be returned very shortly via usps with dc. There were two items that we could not match up: a swiss army knife & a Camelback pack. If your are out these items, please send me an e-mail and I will try and secure these & have them delivered to the original owners.
As for young Garrett, we had a awkard but pleasent conversation. I gave him some strong opinion and harsh reality of what could have happened. He did seem receptive. I hope the kid turns out OK. I am still pissed, but feel the kid can be salvaged & learn from this ordeal.

The grandmother seems genuine & I hope for the return of everyones gear/knives.

I think we did the right stuff here!!!!

veubent, is this the item of which you speak? The contact info is somewhere on this thread for the grandmother, or maybe Jeff S1 may be willing to provide you with the phone number?

I hope that everyone gets their stuff back, and sorry to hear of this mess. :grumpy:

I just sent you a PM with some contact information. Let me know if you need anything else.

I just spoke with the Grandmother, She is a very nice lady and she was able to assure me that my Camlebak would be shipped back to me via USPS. Thank you to all that have helped.

The Malls of America have a new POS rat, his name is Garret.

Yes Garret is very sorry; sorry he got caught.

Did any mods check into the possible alter ego of Garrett Watts "herbert.G" ? I do not know if banning him would fix anything as he can always just make up new names and go to other forums ! My idea to allow him to stay was to help make him visible to us on this forum and to maybe help teach him how to be a man .

Fortunately the kid has stand up Grandparents....
I have a feeling, Grama has little Garrets nuts in a clamp. Hopefully

Everyone makes mistakes but stealing and lying are two things I never forgive people for. I guess I'm a little narrow minded

Garrett emailed me back and said he did not send me any of the items he stole from everyone.

Good point. I am a fairly new member myself and this could affect peoples trust in me. I know I am thankful for the G,B&U section, helps weed out the trouble-makers......

What happened to trust issues:confused:, but now its a good point because it affects you:confused:confused::confused:see what I man when the shoe is on the other foot, its a different matter.

Poor Grandma, poor poor lady, what a cross to bear! Maybe someone can suggest to her to pull his computer, at least make it harder for him to have internet access and con people. Is there anyway to track the origin of the BF members computers (Im not a computer person and dont know the answer)?

People might not trust me, but I don't think they will have trust issues. Being a new member there is already a level of apprehension, until I get established. Gold members with plenty of feedback will still trade freely. I will just send my packages off first and the problem is solved.

he contacted me before all of this started wanting me to sharpen his rat rc-4 which he never sent. this thread makes me wonder if the knife is even his.

People not trusting you when they don’t know you, doesn’t it bother you? I’m troubled by that lack of trust you, as new member, feel . I'm new to this forum and I don't paticipate much in the exchange. I have a hard time trusting people because I have been burned many times. I have wanted a BRKT Bravo 1 for so long, and recently (3 times) had the opportunity to buy one from the forums. I backed out because of trust (in general). Not only does this effect me, the people selling the knives are disappointment at the lost sale. Its a bad cycle aggravate by criminal actions like this. I said this before in an earlier post, if he is not punished sufficiently, he will blow this off and figure out how to better con someone. Last post I read from JeffS1, it appears this kid really doesn't care about what he did , just that he got caught. I hope his grandmother takes his computer away at least. it’s a sad situation in so many ways.

Seems like this thread is turning more into an issue of social trust, rather than about gnw1209. While I agree that trust can be an issue with new members, since it's through a person's actions that character is developed, these individuals shouldn't be thrown into the fire.

As to gnw1209, I'm still curious what he has to say about the whole situation. I've only seen a few posts by the kid, and from what I can tell, it seems like some of these trade situations are being fixed.

Whether the trade situations have been "fixed" or not would depend upon one's definition of fixed. Knives have been returned to their owners but I am not aware of many (any?) of these knives being returned in the same condition in which they were sent. Fortunately my knife wasn't destroyed, but there is a substantial difference in value between new and used....

Edited to add: Jeff S1 received his knives and they were in such poor condition that he could rightfully request that the family reimburse him for the full value of his blades.
