Balls_tothe_Walls (Heath Helton) is a scammer

That is an awfully nice home for somebody having "bank issues". And he just moved in? Huh. Almost like he got a large chunk of change for a down payment somewhere. I had some financial issues after divorcing my first wife, and my apartment afterwards would have fit in his new garage. No way is that place a rental. nobody rents a house that nice, he's bought that or it's some relative he's shacking up with.

It was mentioned in the reddit posts that the total is well over 5 figures.
Housing in Texas?? Plenty for a down payment.
Also, how the hell can those guys not smell the stink on him??
Joe

I have no skin in this game, but I just read this entire thread out of fascination and because I sometimes participate in Reddit raffles (where Heath is very active all the time). Thought the Reddit posts below would be of interest here. For the record, if anyone cares about an opinion from someone who just spent too much time reading all this, it seems like he may or may not be making things right. But he's definitely an asshole.

Great story, I'm surprised it didn't start out with "Once upon a time" like most bad fiction

I think that it’s amazing the way our forum members are trying to help the victims here. So many intelligent comments.
I’ve been trying to analyze this whole Heath business, and not seeing any viable end game for him, nor any logic.
While my take may not be appropriate nor helpful or intelligent in this case, I would venture to say that this guy is just another possible meth addicted person. The way he is sowing confusion, unaware that only a few believe in his lies, petty theivery, lack of vision to act with integrity, it’s all classic. If it’s not meth, then it’s certainly diminished brain function.
It would be wise for all involved, to avoid any further compromises with him.

See, that's why I don't do some of the social media. What a load of bull crap. :poop:
It's all still just smoke and mirrors. How in the name of everything that's sane, can anyone believe that the big bad bank is holding out money for no reason.
I guess banks and credit card company's stopped sending out monthly statements around the time all this took place. Go figure.

His responses and claims about how he's been mistreated by his bank remind me of a guy who used to post on several bushcrafting forums. He was an alleged knifemaker who did the all-too typical thing of taking in far too many orders with full payment and failing to deliver. Before he was outed and then banned from the forums he claimed that one of his problems was the state of CA had seized his bank account over unpaid taxes...taxes that he owed and that he had earlier claimed he was fully aware of since the state had been sending him notices for MONTHS warning him what was going to happen...In his mind it was the state's fault and his banks fault that all his money got taken away, the number of people who rallied behind him was amazing. People were sending him even more money with no expectation of ever getting a knife or repayment. After it was revealed that he had spent thousands of dollars on new tools and remodeling his shop with all those deposits and fully paid for knives that he failed to deliver did the folks who sympathized start to catch on to his scam. Later he did the whole remorseful "I know I've disappointed a lot of you..." thread scenario and claimed he'd been reformed and if a few people would just trust him he'd treat them right...he also had his shills in the audience touting for him.

Mr Helton is running the same sort of scam, trying to blame the nameless, faceless bank for his thievery. Getting his supporters to focus their anger on an unknown entity and not on him. Very common con, divert the marks attention while you're taking the money they offer.

Wow, it appears Bladeforums members got off easy with this guys scam (sorry to those affected). It appears many more people on on the interweb were scammed big time by this guy. It's a shame some are buying into his BS and trying to help him. I work in Law Enforcement and have been since July 1988. I wish this guy was in my jurisdiction, he would have a world of problems!

Is this person going to be raffling off all of the knives he got to keep for free on Reddit??

Semi off topic, but does the raffle money usually exceed fair value of the knife. Such as knife is worth $400 and raffle tickets sold is $600
Just trying to determine what advantage using this method offers Balls vs direct sale or returning the knife(if it is one that still hasn't been paid for).

The benefit is that’s he can collect all the raffle money, draw a “random winner” that is a buddy or a second account of his and keep the knife AND the money. After the history here I can’t even believe people would give him their money in the hopes of “winning” and actually receiving a knife.

I would like to add that a few months back my credit card info was fraudulently used. We believe it was scanned by a device attached to a toll station in a parkade. My credit card was maxed out with online purchases for everything from huge amounts of expensive liquor to delivery food to Netflix subscriptions. It was about three days before I noticed and there were several dozen transactions. The entire process of resolving this took me 10 minutes including on hold time. I called them, explained the situation, the lady read the transactions from the last few weeks and I stated whether or not it was me who made them. At that point they cancelled the card, and mailed me a new one. From the day I noticed a problem to the day I was back with a functioning credit card, clear of all fraudulent charges was 5 days. That includes the time to mail my card across the country to me. I have never heard of any bank seizing all of your money and locking all accounts, unless you are the one perpetrating the frauds, not the one being scammed. It’s entirely possible that is the real story here.

Exactly! They're letting the fox guard the chickens! Oh, you've been accused of theft and fraud? I know...how about we let you run some raffles!! That will help everyone to buy a chance at getting their money or knife back!!

What could go wrong?

No response to my asking him to make this right for Jake by using money I paid him and to show proof, surely something can be done through the police or postal or ppal? What about what we call down here 'bush justice'?

Thanks so much for your effort on my behalf! I would love to get on the better side of the victims list here.

Just read that reddit BS . I am sorry but that is some serious bad form . This sort of thing happened to Mike Snody of Snody Knives . This kid used a CC to purchase a significant amount of rare pieces directly through Mike and a couple of other guys . A little time goes by and the kid did a charge back . Mike was never made whole and I don't believe he got any compensation . A few months after the same knives started showing up at pawn shops down in FL and on ebay . I think greed and lust just takes over and gets the best of people . Lots of these younger guys are all screwed up from antidepressants that their doctors prescribed to them in school to control their impulsiveness and once they leave school they take the meds away and this is the kind of shit that happens. We have a large population of impulsive miscreants that will do anything to get what they want .

Or I could be totally off base and this guy is a victim.... time will tell .

Even if you are off base, you get a gold star if you came up with the term "impulsive miscreant".

I agree, great adjective! I think for the most part though it is the typical heroin addict committing these crimes. These junkies typically steal everything from their family first, then friends, and lastly strangers. Nothing stands in their way of getting their next fix. The addicts are on a mission and will lie, cheat and steal from anybody they can. This guy has knife knowledge, and can make the most of his thievery by stealing knives. This is just a theory though, and you can probably substitute the drug heroin with meth or oxycontin.
