bark river 3v tang

update: I was recently inspecting my bark river handle which was labeled as micarta. however it appears to be made of puppy skin mixed with baby tears. I contacted BR and they said I might have accidentally had a knife mislabeled while they were busy at their annual puppy slaughtering festival.

pics and video to come.

I suspect the OP is having trouble producing his video.

No doubt he is having trouble finding a matching knife in A2 complete his ploy.

We never did see a photo of his CPM-3V knife, so maybe he's waiting on a pair.

I think this tread has run it's course.

0_0 Asserting that the thread has "run its course" before the OP has backed up his claim? THAT is corrupt. Especially given the source.

Asserting that the OP is working on manufacturing a fraud without evidence? THAT is corrupt. Wait until he posts again before criticizing the evidence.

If you think that the OP lied or was mistaken about his knife, then let why help bring the thread to the top???

I was hoping you'd say that the handle appears to be made of nothing but cloth and glue stuck together and then pinned in place ;)

Nothing "corrupt" about doubting the OP on this thread. Jeesh I started to do it a week ago. Am I corrupt? What does "especially given the source even mean"? I think you are implying that Big Mike cannot ever doubt a dubious claim against Bark River without being labeled "corrupt." Sillyness. Of course he can and so can you and I.

I'm not too sure how all of this comes out, but it is very hard for me not to think the OP was trolling a bit. Very negative comments, threats of negative videos on Youtube, other comments that I didn't read that were deleted, but must have been inflammatory based on reactions of others who did read them....and then nothing more.

It seems to me that if I had his problem with a Bravo, I would darn well be sure I had it before I started a thread like this. I would certainly communicate better with the company/dealer and see about the issue. If it was true, THEN I would certainly make the community aware of the problem, not before. This just looks fishy. Hey, I think some of the things spiraling around BRKT looks fishy too, but that doesn't mean that EVERYTHING is a darn conspiracy.

Why would the OP call Bark River and then just hang up when someone answers? According to the OP and Mike Stewert (in Big Mike's post) it happened.

I just find that weird.

According to the OP's profile he was online yesterday. Would have been nice to get an update.

Since everyone is been itching to get an update.

So I did a video showing my brkt "3v" being x-rayed. Here's the thing. With a help of my colleague we realized that if we upload the video showing my works various x ray equipments and the hospitals name I'm looking at a lawsuit from them and ofcourse I will loose my job. Keep in mind that the video will go viral and someone will notice it. I work at an x ray lab where everything has to be pathogen free. Even if I say I wiped the knife with alcohol before getting x rayed, who would believe that?

I just want to prove my claim and let you all know that it's not a FAKE. I'm going to a local tech shop and remove the handle completely and I will post it here first hand. Stamped 3v with an A2 tang.

It's not rocket science, just show us the A2 tang (handle removed) with the 3V etch.

That should be clear enough for all.

Big Mike

I will feel bad for the OP if he gets that handle off and it turns out to be a 3V tang ;) If ends up with an A2 stamp, I'll just be confused.
If it turns out that some of BRKT's 3V knives have different tang structures, I won't know what to think until someone runs a more definitive material analysis, be it a comparison of corrosion or wear-resistance between 3V and A2 models or a mass spec. It's too bad a simple weight or geometry comparison would not have sufficed. But if the OP already X-rayed the knife, then his concerns justify more drastic action. *shrug*

Oh the suspense.

Does BRKT's warranty cover that - re-attaching removed scales? Or re-handling a knife whose scales were damaged during removal? That'd be weird, wouldn't it? "The scales were damaged when I removed them to find out if the tang matched what was expected for a 3V Bravo 1."

I believe the offer to remove, inspect the tang, and replace the scales was made by the maker to get to the bottom of the issue before this thread was started.

That alone tells a tale.

Big Mike

The maker has said nothing, only the maker's mouthpiece has spoken. At best that's worth nothing.

Even if this thread never shows the "proof" there is plenty of evidence of bark river and Stewart's character elsewhere on these forums, just search the gb&u.

This thread stinks to hell. In OP's first BF post, he mentions that he has regularly researched knives using this site. So, the OP should have been aware of at least some corrosion properties of 3V and A2 (this is where I learned the properties of A2 and 3V prior to buying my 2 bark river knives). Yet, OP only realizes something is wrong when watching a youtube channel and a reviewed knife corrodes or discolors less than his own. Then the OP creates a BF account in July 2013 to raise an issue, but never offers a shred of evidence. OP's only posts are in this thread. OP has his own alleged evidence that he has decided not to share. The xray possibility became a story of it's own. The phone call story makes no sense. No pics at all???? No corrosion pics??? Nothing??? A crappy story...that's it???

I call BS. When undeniable evidence is presented, I'll delete my post.
