Here's a forced patina for you.

I'll just embed them, if you don't mind:

Hmm, doesn't look like that went very well, at least not compared to low alloy non-PM tool steels like A2, O1, 1095, etc....

This is the finish I was trying to describe for 3V. A picture is worth a thousand (of my) words.

Thanks for posting that Mikael.

Interesting question.

First off, my only association with Bark River Knives is as a customer; as has been posted on these Forums many times before, I do not, and never have worked for Mike Stewart or Bark River Knives.

I tend not to post in these anti Bark River threads unless I have something pertinent to add.

I was surprised by some of the things you stated, hence my question asking about you claiming that you talked to Mike Stewart and he told you "it's definitely A2"?

I contacted Mike Stewart on this question to get his take on the issue.

One quick question Mike, are you the same Big Mike that is a moderator on the Bark River forum? You seem to have a direct line to Mike Stewart.

I am in fact the same Big Mike that is a Super Moderator on KnifeForums

Bark River is a paid contributor to that Forum, and do have their own sub-forum.

Big Mike, I have always wondered, does Mike Stewart own knifeforums or is he a part owner of knife forums?

CPM-3V will polish up like other carbon steels, it simply takes better abrasives and/or more time due to the carbide-content, i.e. wear-resistance. Mirror-polished CPM-3V (assumed) Bravo 1

I guess my point was that, for those of us without access to x-ray, a way to tell the difference in the steels is the level of polish of the 3V as received from Bark River; not that 3V couldn't be mirror-polished.

Nice looking knife by the way. It's rampless gunny mate in ghost green is in my pack right now......not mirror-polished, unfortunately :(...........:)

;) just deleted my original response. I had to Google what troll means and I did not want to be one. My apologies.

Hmmm. I think I leaning more towards troll now. Good luck with your Bravo.

I think most warranties would be limited in some fashion to the replacement of your knife.

Interesting that a man and the companies associated with him, have a long negative reputation and people still want to "give him a second chance" by buying his knives. He's a marketing genius; really knows how to get a particular type of knifeknut salivating...but hey it's only money. :) Not like somebody is losing his business or real stacks of cash... Search the GB&U which is where this thread belongs.

I went from liking brkt to giving them a 2nd chance to getting pissed (mike telling lies) to where I just want my money back and nullify brkt info my use. I have never seen this much magnitude of negativity towards a knife company.

@ big mike, I myself is intrigued. You say you're just a customer yet heavily involved with brkt. There are 3 possible things that comes in my mind. Either you're a family member, a brkt fan who gets free knives and lastly Mike Stewarts alter ego which is pretty common to happen in social networks.

Again, I hesitate to post in this thread again, but I find the things being said insulting.

I have been a contributing member of this Forum since 2006, and in that time I've spent pretty of woods time (camping, hiking, sharing a camp fire) with many members here, including several of the W&SS moderators.

I was one or the three W&SS Forum Members trusted to test the knives in the epic 20+ Bushcraft Knife Challenge.

People know me here for the avid woodsman and knife user that I am.

If you care to check out the old W&SS threads, much of this activity was document in photos and words.

Who are you?, ...a new Member with only a few post?

For all I know your just another Bark River hater using a new identity to continue trolling.

My actions here through the years speak for themselves,

...yours seem less then honorable. :(

Thank you for editing your comment. I would like to see this stay civil so that we can all see the video or picture evidence, and not just pick up our toys and go home.

I am sure we would all like to see a picture of the knife in question so we can compare the tang to the tang of an A2 knife.

Yeah let's keep it friendly. It's a slip up that got thru accidentally. If Bark River gives a replacement or can get your money back, then no harm no foul. I think it's great you posted this so that other folks can be aware of the mistake just in case. And in your situation you have the right to question the companies quality control. But let's not get out of hand here everyone. Keep it clean, keep it classy, no hitting below the belt :)
GotKnife we are looking forward to the video post soon.

Yep, Big Mike was kind enough to post a clear picture of the difference in the tangs. Just need the OP's for comparison.
