Don't think this old Ulster ever made this thread.
I admit Mr. Twain kinda lost me halfway through the second sentence, but I thought if anyone could decode this, y'all could.
"...but is was a 'sure-enough' Barlow, and there was inconceivable grandeur in that---though where the western boys ever got the idea that such a weapon could possibly be counterfeited to its injury, is an imposing mystery and will always remain so, perhaps."
"Tom contrived to scarify the cupboard with it, and was arranging to begin on the bureau, when he was called off to dress for Sunday-School."
I was reading Tom Sawyer last night and came across this:
"Mary gave him a brand-new 'Barlow' knife worth twelve and a half cents; and the convulsion of delight that swept his system shook him to the foundations. True, the knife would not cut anything, but is was a 'sure-enough' Barlow, and there was inconceivable grandeur in that---though where the western boys ever got the idea that such a weapon could possibly be counterfeited to its injury, is an imposing mystery and will always remain so, perhaps. Tom contrived to scarify the cupboard with it, and was arranging to begin on the bureau, when he was called off to dress for Sunday-School."

Also, can someone point me to a USA made Barlow on the cheap? I am willing to pay more than twelve and a half cents but not much more; I like the idea of a cheap, no frills knife but I can't bring myself to buy an import from China or Pakistan. I'd prefer a single blade with a brown handle (bone would be great but I would take delrin) and NOT stainless steel blades; and ideally, it'd have "Barlow" on the bolster.

Another fantastic knife!Wow - some beautiful knives here.
I have a few old Remington Barlows that I'll have to dig out of the knife case for a photo session, but here's a big' ol Case XX smooth bone Granddad from the '50s that's pert near good as new.
