With all the new Barlows around here lately I thought it would be a good time to bump this fantastic thread so we can get all the great pics in one place...

Wouldn't mind finding a vintage one, like some of those posted here.

Wow - some beautiful knives here.

I have a few old Remington Barlows that I'll have to dig out of the knife case for a photo session, but here's a big' ol Case XX smooth bone Granddad from the '50s that's pert near good as new.

I was reading Tom Sawyer last night and came across this:

"Mary gave him a brand-new 'Barlow' knife worth twelve and a half cents; and the convulsion of delight that swept his system shook him to the foundations. True, the knife would not cut anything, but is was a 'sure-enough' Barlow, and there was inconceivable grandeur in that---though where the western boys ever got the idea that such a weapon could possibly be counterfeited to its injury, is an imposing mystery and will always remain so, perhaps. Tom contrived to scarify the cupboard with it, and was arranging to begin on the bureau, when he was called off to dress for Sunday-School."

I admit Mr. Twain kinda lost me halfway through the second sentence, but I thought if anyone could decode this, y'all could.

Also, can someone point me to a USA made Barlow on the cheap? I am willing to pay more than twelve and a half cents but not much more; I like the idea of a cheap, no frills knife but I can't bring myself to buy an import from China or Pakistan. I'd prefer a single blade with a brown handle (bone would be great but I would take delrin) and NOT stainless steel blades; and ideally, it'd have "Barlow" on the bolster.

How often do you see a Joseph Rodgers pearl Barlow? Looks to be 1960s construction.

They were thrilled that their knife was a genuine Barlow, implying that somewhere, there must exist 'fake' Barlows of lesser quality. Even though the boys had no knowledge of such things, they mysteriously 'knew' that theirs was superior to any (in this case, hypothetical) imitation.

"Scarify" means to make shallow cuts. Tom was carving initials or designs into the wood.

Hi,

Well, I have a GEC Northfield Barlow. It's fantastic to carry and use, but not cheap. I suspect the days of inexpensive USA Barlow's are gone. I think you will have to troll the various auction sites and swap and trade forums. And don't be quite so quick to dismiss foreign made Barlow's. My German Boker is a classic in design and looks.

I would suggest just watching EBay...they are always nice older carbon steel Barlows for sale and normally at decent prices.

Thanks everyone. I have this "Diamond Edge" (a Schrade/Imperial brand from what I've gathered) coming; $15 to my door. Other sources date this as 1973. Not my photos:

I do hope to see the rest of your barlows. :)

While not a barlow per se this Case 6216 1/2 I picked up is the same basic style with similar blades. This is from the 65-69 era...

C'mon folks, I need some more good ole Barlow eye candy...

I was out of town this weekend and returned this evening to find this in my mailbox.:D

It may not be an OG Russell but pretty nice bone and decent f & f none-the-less (especially when you consider the pricepoint).

P.S. The Boker family resemblance is uncanny...;):D
