Another of my Case XX 62009½ Red Rough Cut Bone Barlows. I bought this one second hand and although it appears rough (it is actually) it is tight and has wonderful snap. Whoever the previous owner was, he kept it sharp!

I like the fact that Case used what to some may be considered flawed scales. I think they add character to the knife and an interesting twist to these knives.

That's one really nice Barlow. I, too, like the slight natural imperfections on those handles. Really sweet. I'm off to ebay to see what I can find....

I'll admit, as a knife nut I have an unnatural aversion to the Barlow pattern. I hate it. That said, the spear point on that Burke Queen takes enough away from the traditional pattern that I kinda find it appealing. Very nice Cohoma.

Don't worry, we each have our own cross to bear...try as I might I can't relate to the canoe pattern and don't care for knives with wharncliffe master blades. Go figure.

Thanks Ed. I've got a few Cases with the bone marrow crevices in the handles one of which is an Appaloosa Bone scaled Case Barlow that I'll post a picture of in the next week or two.

That's a really beautiful knife. If I'm not mistaken, Case used Potassium Permanganate to dye the bone on those scales.

just got my first Barlow....:)

Nice Barlow, theblindog! Very sweet indeed!. You made me go and dig up this one that we here in 'BF Traditional' help build for ourselves with a little help from S & M -- Queen, and a very  moderator Gus(Bastid) and a very kind STAG donation from a silent but generous donor in 2009..

If you'll notice, there appears to be a crack on the front side of the knife's handle (first picture); however, it is not a crack but rather a natural bone marrow canal in the bone.

That 2009 forum knife is the finest production Barlow I've ever seen. I came to the party too late for that one. - Ed

Finally gave in to the temptation and got myself this GEC Northfield barlow in sweet genuine stag. Its only 3" but it sure feels bigger. A stout little knife. The secondary blade is almost a nail breaker though. I hope the spring will break in and loosen up after time and use.
