BarrelTwist

Maybe it's just me and I'm a bit harsh and an a-hole... but if I was doing a trade with someone and they still hadn't shipped their item a month after they received the item I sent, their reputation is shot, PERIOD. They can make all the excuses in the world, they can apologize 'till the cows come home, but they will be a piece of crap in my book... forever. No second chances...

Yup, You are being harsh. Life events happen to everyone and it is usually a good measure of our humanity in being able to forgive.

I don't think it's as important a measure of our humanity to forgive as it is someone else's ability to do better. I don't understand this forgiveness business being handed out like a free pass, but in this case the man admits he didn't do right and is going to do better in the future. The problem people are the ones who insist it's all someone else's fault, or the weather, or the job, don't blame them. Those are the ones to avoid.

My point was that barreltwist came out and admitted he was wrong, made no excuses, and took ownership for the situation. In my book that deserves a second chance, re; forgiveness.

I understand that. Sorry you feel that way.

Well it's the truth...there is ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE for it to take a month to ship a man his package, and worse of all you made him ship first. The second/day you received your package from him,you should have went to the post office and mail his off.Thats how it works!!! I'm sorry I just do not understand why it took you a month to mail off the mans package.I mean (come on) Shipping cost is like 5 bucks, 10 at the most within the country. And you didn't/couldn't borrow that from someone to ship the guy his knife?
Your lucky this forum is full of good people, and that you maybe forgiven in the end with out consequence. If it was up to me,you'd be banned from the buying, selling, trading, for six months-a year.
I'm sorry guys I don't feel like him kissing a$$ is consequence enough.

So be it, hope you never hit a rough patch or make a mistake. Regardless its not up to you or I to decide consequences.

I never said it wasn't the truth frontline. Im sorry that he feels that he can not forgive me.
Tendy: I apppreciate the fact that you understand and you do offer second chances. Thanks alot :) I did make a huge mistake and its all my fualt, but i am trying to fix it.

I never said it was up to me to decide the consequences... I said IF it was up to me...

Even if I was say in jail/gone from a post office. I'd still have my wife or some one that had 5 bucks to mail the man his knife.

I'm sorry I feel that It just doesn't take a month to organize a package to be shipped out.

even more so if the man mailed his package off first,in good faith that his end of the deal would be shipped out asap upon it being received.

But yet again (not saying this is you barreltwist) some people out there can't organize butter on toast...

I know that you didn't say it wasn't the truth.I give respect that your here facing this and trying to make this right.Which I know you will. But just put yourself in his shoes you'd be plenty pi$$ed too right? I know I'd be if it happened to me.

Anyways I hope this all works out for you beandip and you get your knife in a timely manner this time.
tedny...barreltwist's knight is shining armor.

Let's keep this in contest, please. beandip was pissed, that's why he started this thread. But if you read his last post here, he's waiting to see what BarrelTwist sends him, since he was satisfied that the man came here to settle up.

Taking over a month to send someone your half of the trade is irresponsible, unless you are on deaths bed or similar dire circumstances.
Trying to trade or sell an item you've recieved in trade before the other trader has gotten his half of the deal and is satisfied is also irresponsible and in bad form. We are only as good as our word and actions when we are doing these deals over the internet and must bear the consequences. If you cannot follow through with a deal in an appropriate and timely manner you should not be making the deal.

I'm sorry, tendy, but you are wrong. It is up to each and every one of us to decide wether or not we will do a deal with a member who acts in such an irresponsible manner. Wether he makes right in the end or not. Those are the consequences. I'm sure Barreltwist means well, but unfortunately his actions during this deal will probably make it difficult for him to make a deal on these forums for quite awhile.

I would be plenty pissed. But if he tried to make it right then I would be slightly comforted. Karda: I really hope that this does not make it difficult for me to trade on these forums. In reality I know many will avoid me and not make me offers :( but i do understand

you couldn't ship the knife in a months time but you sure could bump your thread. although you're now trying to make up, it took this thread to get you to.

Im sorry but I must disagree on two accounts. First of all why would I want to bump a thread that's bad about me? Would'nt I want to let it dissapear so everyone would not see it? It's common sense. Secondly I was going to ship him his knife REGARDLESS of this thread, as a matter of fact I shipped it before this thread. Not trying to start an argument but youre wrong.

I may be wrong, but I do not believe so. It is of course an individuals choice in whether you deal with someone or not. But I think if we all look into our lives, we will see times when we made errors. I have seen some really egregious acts reportred in this forum, and in my humble opinion when an individual comes on, apologizes and tries to make it right he should not be discouraged to do so, by receiving a redundant slamming. Too many individuals reported here, in a negative context, either never respond, try to blame all but themselves, or just get plain wacky.

Give BarrelTwist a break already, he is trying to do the right thing and by everyone persistently jumping all over him, I thinks sets a poor example. :)

I have given him a break. One post, that was it, from two days ago. Is that okay with you?
It doesn't set a poor example to tell someone what they are doing is wrong.

Sure, its fine with me, thanks for asking.;) And yes sending the same message over and over again can be rather counter-productive

This is an open forum in which everyone is allowed to post their opinions. If one wishes not to hear these opinions, however many times they are spoken, it is best to conduct business in a manner that doesnt get a negative thread posted with your name on it.
Noone is slamming or discouraging Barreltwist from making this deal right,in fact, we are encouraging him to do so. I for one applaud him for standing up and taking positive action, but even with apologies and making it right, it doesnt mean i myself wouldnt think twice before making a deal with him.

Well, I've read this thread & FWIW, will impart my .02

I have done a successful trade with BarrelTwist not too long ago. I'm currently doing a trade with him now, but admittedly it was before this came up.

I will say upfront, that yes, BarrelTwist should NOT have posted anything F/T until the other person got his/her end of the trade & said they were fine with the trade, period. I always make it a point to check out the knife, IF I get it 1st, but I don't carry/use it or even entertain thoughts about selling/trading it, UNTIL I'm clear to do so.

That said, I think I know why BarrelTwist is saying he's sent beandip his knife, but it's been a week. I don't know how he did it, but he shipped something to me, saying he shipped it through USPS priority (In a flat rate box). However, when he emailed me the tracking #, it was clearly a UPS tracking # & it was shipped ground. Also, while he dropped it off at the Mailing Store on Sat., it didn't go out until Mon. (That's normal). So, it'll get here next Mon., even though he'll have had my 2 knives for a week. I shipped through a Mail Store too, on Fri. & it went out on Fri. He got his 2 knives on Mon.

My point being is that he's using a Mail Store that uses both UPS & USPS & apparently, even though BarrelTwist brings in the package in a USPS flat rate box, they'll ship it through UPS ground. That's the gist of what happened as far as why it takes a week to get to someone.

I can not answer as to why it took 3 weeks or so to ship it or why he had it F/T before getting the OK that the trade was completed.

Hopefully others will read this & realize that they should NOT do anything with an item they get on a trade (Other than to check it out) until it is completed (That is to say, that both sides say they're OK/happy with the trade).

As an aside, I don't think that BarrelTwist has tried to rip anyone off. I've emailed & IM him on numerous occasions & he seems like a straight up guy. He just happened to use poor judgement & allowed a Mail Store to take advantage of him (Or he's not paying attention when he pays for the shipping).

I think we ALL deserve second chances. So, if I needed to I would offer a trade to barreltwist the trade would just be him ship first then I'll ship mine as soon as the tracking number shows up as item in transit. That way there wouldn't be a month or weeks between us each receiving each others items. Ash
