Basic Urban Survival Folder

Not going there but thanks. I really don't take it all that serious these days. I'm just a guy that loves folding knives, feeling like I know enough about them to do them for myself the way I think they should be for reliability and strength. Its great that some have also felt the same and liked what I do but the way I figure it I'm going to play with knives whether I make anything for anyone else on the side or not. :D I really don't want to get any busier though. I almost feel at times like I've gone into production pocket clips and would love to see some other guys start offering them. I never knew there were so many that wanted titanium low riders or standard style clips when I started doing them for myself and posting a few of them around the forums. It is nice that since I started doing them that the public has gotten the word out and let the manufacturers know they want them though. I notice a lot more manufacturers are offering a low rider now compared to when I started doing them.

I'm in.

I'd like teal canvas micarta, and one of those low-profile clips (not low-rider) would, IMO, supplement the folder perfectly - convenient, but not in the way like most folder's pocket clips are.

Any chance I could pay a little extra to have you tap it for 4-way carry?

Ok the good news is I received the blanks today in the mail. The bad news is Dave made an err in how many he cut out. I got ten complete sets today in the mail, not twelve as expected.

I got in touch with him to see if maybe some were left there. Either way though I am having him cut out enough more to fill what is needed here for this thread. No more though since I am going to run short of blades before too long if I lose track. Anyway, being that I'm out a good deal of money investment wise I need to sell some of these to be able to pay my bills next cycle so I would prefer, unless I hear strong objection, to putting the folks working trades with me for their knife as the ones on the back end of the list and selling some first to the guys paying. This way I can start to get some $ together for the incoming Master Card bill when it arrives. Hope you guys understand. Rest assured I'll still make sure you folks get yours. I'd just prefer to do it this way if you don't mind. Thanks.

Oh, right. I've actually got a half dozen ready to mail next week. I need to do that :)

(I know, you asked for two, but what the heck, it's almost as easy to do 6 as 2)

Talk about timing. I was just mentioning you. Half a dozen sounds really good right now my friend.

Send them on. I believe you have my address and all you need.

I don't recall if you wanted scales on yours or not. Remind me of that and what if you know. I vaguely recall you saying you wanted to do your own wood or something like that. Forgive me if that wasn't you.

Thanks.

Nah, regular jobber is fine. maybe someday a nice fat handle, but for pocket carry the thin mycarta is great.

Ok Steve, Just to confirm, Am on the list for ont of the first batch? If so, how much do you need? Paypal ok? and color choices? Thanks Martin

It looks like you made it on this run. No money till I'm done your folders guys please. The BUSTR folders will be $135 plus shipping and pay pal fess if that applies. Thats like 4% more. The ones with Koyote's thicker blades will be more but I have not figured a price on those as of yet. That needs to be discussed and divided out depending on how Christof and I work that out. If you paid me up front I'll fee rushed and I don't function well when I feel rushed plus I don't take money up front on anything other than pocket clips that I can get in and out of here fast. So just hang in and I'll get to yours one step at a time.

Actually I already started some prep work to get things going in the right direction. Even with Dave's help there is a lot to do though. All clips need made, all the scales need traced and cut out of materials, and holes drilled to mount them. I'll need to do the actual size holes in the blanks Dave cut out, drill the detent and mount those, cut the blades and assemble, then bead blast the finishes. So, basically since there are 10 to do until next run I'm going to be a while getting to all these guys. This on top of the fact that I'm still getting clips daily to do as well as working on three Emerson frame lock conversions that I actually started before these folders will mean you have some time. These don't go together quickly sometimes but I have started. I'm sure some will be faster than others but every now and then one fights me. As I get them done I'll move along down the line and let each of you know here in this thread.

Those of you that have not chimed in with clip, micarta choice, or anything else need to do so. I can't do yours until I hear from you.

Thanks

Steve, I would like green canvas micarta if you have it, and a low rider, RH, tip up clip. What is the deal with the thicker blades, I must have missed that back in the thread. I'll be paying with PP.

Thanks!

I had not priced these with low riders just so you know. I mentioned this earlier but so long as you know I'm cool with making you one but its a lot more work to do a low rider than a standard style. Just an FYI.

It was mentioned about the Koyote (Christof) blade contribution. I didn't know how many but it looks like I'll have six although they are not here yet. I might add that these will be more $ and also harder to work being thicker. I expect they'll need cut down like these Cobbler blades. I doubt they'll zip right in half like these ones do being thicker though.
Thanks

Micarta choices inventoried.

I have the following

Teal Canvas. I have a full 6x12" sheet and a little shy of half a sheet of this.
Yellow linen. I have a 6 x10 sheet of this
Brown Canvas enough left for one folder
Green Linen only enough to do one folder. Its spoken for.
Black Linen 1 folder
Red Linen I have enough to do 3 folders. One is spoken for.
Black canvas I have enough to do three

I also found antique linear paper micarta. I have enough of that to do several but its more plastic looking and the least impressive of the micarta I think. I've used it and some like it. Antique linear paper is very close to mastadon ivory looking although you can tell its fake if you look close.
Thanks

No worries on the pricing, just let me know what it comes to! I'll pick up one of the Koyote blades if available, as long as they are still scandi grind.

Steve, you have me listed with Green canvas. Did you have that or do I need to make another choice?

Steve,

I am one of the trade deal guys, and a patient one. So no worries, no hurries on my end. I'll be finally posting that other bit of blue denim I sent promised you. I have some more of that thin orange and green denim too if you are interested. Of course, I would more than happy to make up anything else you would like. You just need to say the word.

I do have another question:

I have a bit of Talonite .071" x .712 x 5.145"

What would would be your thoughts regarding the use of it on a future run of BuSTRs or similar?

I am tempted to ask about it for this first rum, but I think I need a "standard" to start with.

I did one talonite blade for myself. Of course this is just my opinion and I mean no argument with folks that feel otherwise but in my case just enough of the material to make one little blade was so costly and grinding and drilling it such a pain in the rear that I don't really want to mess with it anymore. Reese Weiland will grind it anyway you want for a price but personally I'm not interested in messing with it again. I made another blade for the folder I put this one in and hardly have touched the talonite again since the edge rolled on me trying to whittle some wood.

Actually I missed that. I don't have green canvas so yes. I thought I had some and brown linen but I guess I have used it all up. I do have black canvas and the teal is pretty nice. Its probably my favorite of the canvas micarta. Here is what it looks like below even though the scan doesn't show the color as well as sunlight would.

Thanks,
That is why I ask before assuming anything.

Now, how about the questions on the laminates:

I'll certainly take some but I'm not using it in this knife. I want that for my own self! :D
