Basic Urban Survival Folder

Oh I believe so yes. Like I said I have not heard back from Great Lakes that the blanks are ready to ship back to me.

Thanks

Sounds great Dave. I'm sure a lot of folks will be pleased to hear that.

i'm lagging, but not by much. I've got a few ground out and have the bevels on, but need to heat treat.

You are down Woodysone and thanks. I believe Dave is getting real close on the blanks now. I spoke with him this morning and he is about ready to mail.

The tension mounts!!!

Eagerly anticipating it hitting my grabby little hands.

Take your time, no rush, it's good to have to wait for something in this day and age of instant gratification.

Steve,
If there is anything I need to make a choice of on these, such as handle color; let me know when the time is appropiate to do so.
Thank you in advance....

Not at this time. I am still waiting to get stuff here. Not sure if Dave got them mailed or not yet. I haven't paid him so I doubt its ready just yet.

What I'll do first is have to start cutting the blades as soon as I get the locks and liner side back. Then I'll have to go through and decide on scale materials, see what I have, what will fit and what won't.

I've already run into a snag with thumb studs. The thickness of the scales I wanted to use on these is not going to be as thick as my first one and rounded off 'shoe shine' like as I had hoped. I wanted to give the handles some anatomy but they need to be thick to do that. I ordered new studs from the supplier and used the same order number as always only to get a different product shorter in length and using a smaller screw than the old 2-56 screws. Its now T-5 screws in a 1-70 size instead of the T-6 torx 2-56. I can't say I'm thrilled about this. In effort to find longer studs I ordered some I've never used from one listed in this thread as I recall earlier and although 2-56 they still are not long enough to give the thumb a good assured purchase to open the folder blade securely if I use the same handles.

So, what I'm stuck with is using thinner stock only and flatter or you guys will be writing me complaining about missing the stud unless I can find a way to thin it down enough without it looking bad or funky by being so thin in one spot and having all that 'meat' in others. I'm kind of just visualizing with my wild imagination in anticipation of that first one which will teach me a lot so I guess we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. I'll figure out something.

I'm still shopping suppliers looking for the longer thumb studs and experimenting with ways to make my own or at least take two studs, cut one in half and combine them on the same screw to make them appear longer. I don't know how I'll do it just yet. We'll see. On the ones I plan for thicker frame locks with just an overscale like the hawkbill I posted way back on one of the first pages the studs I have will be fine. So with those I'm not too worried but those will be some with thicker blades not the Ragnar blades from Ragweed Forge.

Thanks Steve, just checking.
I think this is gonna be a sweet little knife....... ;)
Have a good one.

I think you are ok but its probably getting close at this point. Not sure how many lock and liner blanks I'll actually have in this first run.

fod may want more than one

Of course, this is depending on price and availability. I like to give knives to new Eagle Scouts in my troop and I have a few coming up soon. They have been getting small straight blades, but the rules state they can't carry them, so I think this might be the hit.

Thanks!

Steve, your parts are done. I also cut you a bunch of Ranger green and black textured G-10 pieces. Hope you likey:D

Sounds great Dave. Thanks for the heads up. I'll be around today so should be easy to catch if you need me to square up with you money wise.

Thanks again.

Interested but I'm in Malaysia and if you're cool with shipping overseas then I'm game.

I am fine without a lanyard hole but I kinda need a clip. Since it's not defensive but day to day I'm thinking tip down on the right (looking at blade when closed.

I must admit I'm a little confused with the sequence of events till now and the discussion was in parts 'knife-maker' talk which I'm unfamiliar but if I guessed correctly it'll be around 125 bucks per without shipping and an option of different micarta colors? At that price for a semi (or full depending on accuracy) custom with such a beautiful sized lock (thicker than blade... Me likee :)) I'm definitely game.

A question though, any chance of using bigger screws? I don't mind paying more for larger screws on the pivot and the rest of the screws cause I have bad experience with small screws. Although I'm also fine if it can't be done or is too expensive.

Thanks STR.
